Didn't see any threads on amusement parks on here and I figured /vroom/ would be the best board to post about it.

What theme and water parks have you guys visited? Any stories from those trips you've taken to them?

pic related, I miss going to Wild Rivers as a kid.

My favorite childhood park Geauga Lake (now abandoned) has a really fascinating history.
http://www.themeparktourist.com/features/20140824/28153/lost-geauga-lake-how-worlds-largest-six-flags-disappeared

TLR
>Small family park for about 100 years
>Built on a lake with a Sea World on the other side of it
>Parent Company merges with Six Flags
>Six Flags decides to compete head-on with Cedar Point
>Builds a bunch of copy-pasted coasters in the park
>Acquires Sea World and joins the park to create largest amusement park in the world by area
>Six Flags is completely incapable of managing a large park and there's no infrastructure to support it as a world-wide tourist destination
>Attendance plummets because it's so poorly run
>Gets bought out by Cedar Fairs (owner of Cedar Point)
>Promise to fix the park and downsize it to an appropriate size
>But instead, they shut down the park because they can't have competition with Cedar Point
>Only Water Park now
>Cedar Point decides to expand their water park
>Closes the Geauga Lake water park so it won't compete with the flagship.

Six Flags was horribly mismanaged when Dan Snyder bought the company back in the day but at least Cedar Fairs is much better about its parks and stuff though that's unfortunate what happened to your park.

Speaking of favorites, my favorite amusement park is Hersheypark. I'm planning on going to it with a friend who's never been next Sunday but I always liked the coasters especially Storm Runner and Great Bear, the atmosphere and how clean it all is. The closest park I live by is Six Flags America but it just doesn't compare.

We have White Water and SixFlags over GA.

I haven't been in years to either. Probably 10+ years to be honest.

It depends solely on what day you go on. Sometimes it was miserable, sometimes you can just stay seated in a ride because nobody was there the whole day.

It just sucks to have to drive an hour and a half to get to Cedar Point.

That does suck. It's 45 minutes barring traffic to get to Six Flags America on a good day. DC traffic can be tough.

Got back late last night. My friend and I just went on the roller coasters but I forgot how awesome Storm Runner was. I also will say Laff Trakk, which was the first time I went on it, was surprisingly fun for an indoor roller coaster. Also got plenty of Hershey's candy, which I'll post on /nom/.

Any other experiences you guys have had at amusement parks?

Silver Dollar City was fun when I went there when I was 8 although I did get lost there and had to go back to the car. Also depends which Batman coaster you mean since the one I went on at Six Flags America was the type where you lay down and it felt weird riding on that.

Does this count as an "amusement park"?
The Musée des Blindés or Musée Général Estienne is a tank museum located in the Loire Valley of France, in the town of Saumur. It is now one of the world's largest tank museums. It began in 1977 under the leadership of Colonel Michel Aubry

I went to California Adventure in January and it was surprisingly not a bad experience. It's been almost 20 years since I last went and the park after it had first opened and they've made a lot of improvements to it. I got into the park at 10:30am and stayed until they closed it out with World of Color.

It helped going on a Thursday and having FastPass but I was able to manage to ride all of the major rides. I think my favorite was Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! but I also liked Radiator Springs Racers and Incredicoaster.

I don't think it does since it's a museum but that looks pretty cool and I'd go if I ever go to France.

I want to go to Carowinds at some point. Also the place in NJ that has the worlds tallest coaster. Tallest one I've been on was about 200 feet. The one in NJ is like 400 lol.

Don't tell me where to go in Paris. I'll watch the Bastille Day parade if I want to.
