Has anyone tried meditation while high? I'm only asking because I don't know much about meditation

It’s best to meditate sober.

Weed, psy, and dis all create interesting head spaces that are fun and enlightening to explore, but they all make the higher forms of meditation harder to achieve. Don’t just take my word for it. All of Buddhist traditions practice meditation without using substances, and abstaining for intoxicants is one of the precepts of Buddhism.

this. I love weed, psy and dis, and often practice breathing exercises while on them to deepen the relaxation and therapeutic effects, but if you want to actually meditate, do it sober. doing it high will just make you more reliant on an external substance, when meditation is all about cultivating your inner world and focus, it's something incredibly powerful that every human bean has in their toolbox, independent of the external, don't make it reliant on the external, bad idea.
not only that, as phineas points out, it makes it much more difficult to get to the deeper aspects of the craft, for one your brain is intoxicated, and two, at least in my experience, using a substance for that sense of peace and serenity will make true lasting peace all the more elusive, it begins a cycle, one that I am still trying to find my way out of. Keep it something sacred, friend.

Meditation is bullshit, get high and chill instead. It's even better.

If you've seen/heard any of Alan Watts' talks you'd know how absolutely silly it is to take things like meditation, discipline and abstinence too seriously.

It makes it more difficult to accomplish what meditation is trying to achieve.

Whereas this is also true, so what the fuck? 🤷‍♂️

As someone who's meditated regularly for 7 years I can say with some semblance of authority that insight or vipassanā meditation while high increases the intensity by huge amounts as you're just paying close attention to raw experience, which while high is super pleasurable and the more you draw yourself into that raw sensory experience the more you notice the sheer depth of the high you're having. Try it.

I don't care what the experts have to say. To me it's just about stepping outside of your head then doing some deep introspection. Thinking about the grand scheme of things, not wasting your thoughts on irrelevant nonsense. The great thing about weed is that it gets your mind churning on these things. You just get high and start thinking, boom, you're meditating. I guess. I don't know what it's supposed to be. I think it can be what ever you want, as long as it's good for your soul. It can build character, improve your mood, improve your understanding, make you feel like more of an individual and less of a cog in a machine. Meditation should make your everyday life more livable. But I do think people can be goofy about it when they buy the self-help books and put on Enya and try to concentrate *really really* hard on what meditation should be, only to end up frustrated because they got sidetracked by all the reading, and researching, and shopping. They never achieved the enlightenment they thought was deserved after all that concerted effort. Meditation should be effortless. Let it come to you.

Dude reading and learning from experts in meditation is extremely helpful so is having a teacher as there are many many types and traditions. Smoking and "thinking" is probably the exact opposite of all meditation, you might call that reflecting.>>4939829

That may be a form of meditation but not one I've heard of. Everything I've read and practiced suggests the art of meditation is silencing your thoughts.

from what i have learned it's about hearing your thoughts as if they were background nosie, not to plug up your thoughts but to let them go and observe them
