>WWE blew Morrison's return on a talk show no one watches
It's not like John Morrison's return was going to get some massive, mega pop from the crowd. He's 40 years old now. They're bringing him in to be a midcard jobber and get other people over. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if they stick him on NXT and just have him job to Undisputed Era for months.

WWE advertises WWE Backstage as their version of SportsCenter. They need to break news like this on the show so it actually has that vibe.

The Elite guys have lost too much. They need TV draws as soon possible. Pick 3 or 4 guys and book them like gods. We're 2 months and Omega has lsot 3 big matches with no significant mic time. Thats just dumb.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the Elite, but I understand Meltz's take that they're losing too much.

I don't want an Elite-focused promotion but AEW is what it is and "what's best for business" was an Elite-focused promotion at the launch. It obviously can't last forever.

But the first few months kind of needed to be, the Elite vs recognizable WWE faces like Jericho, Moxley and/or Dustin Rhodes. Fuck, given how over he was in the battle royal, maybe Billy Gunn should have put over Hangman Page on an episode of Dynamite.

Just under the main event should have been the Lucha Bros, LAX and SCU. The tag division is strong as hell, and Private Party, Best Friends, Jurassic Express should have been having competitive matches putting them over on Dynamite. (I do think they handled Scorpio Sky's mini program with Jericho well)
Then Post-Full Gear, should have been mixing in LB, SCU, Swagger, Sammy, Janela, Darby, MJF, even Jimmy Havoc into TV programs with the Elite to build to 2020 PPVs.

This Saturday, Bushiroad will run an anime con in Anaheim, CA focused mostly on some multimedia anime series. They have 3 shows about all girl bands, and the seyuu from each show also perform live shows in character. The singer seyuu performs as the lead vocalist, etc. And I read somewhere the lead singer for Roselia is a former wrestler.

The reason I ask here is that as we all know, Bushiroad owns New Japan, and a bunch of NJPW wrestlers are also set to appear, as are some Stardom girls (damn how old is Sumie Sakai?)

Liger was on the bill last year, but this year is more gaijins than Japanese.

So, anyone going?

"High flying" wrestling is fine in and of itself, but first, why do people act like it's the only thing that's good? And second, why is it so often treated as a substitute for matches actually having some tension?

I think a big problem with modern flippy shit is the same problem with a most modern wrestling: the death of the territories

Speaking as someone who grew up with WCW-ECW cruiserweights, luchadors & Japanese junior heavyweights: today's work just isn't as good

Because the reality is guys like Ultimo Dragon, Syxx-Pac, Tajiri, RVD, Sabu, Psicosis, Jericho, Super Crazy, Hayabusa, Jushin Liger, Malenko, Great Sasuke, Taka, etc etc all came up on the tail end of a territory system so they had better training. They had legit dojo training with actual grizzled shooters that instilled the fundamental idea that the wrestling work is supposed to depict a real fight.

Yeah they still did flippy shit that didn't always have good psychology, but they still laid their shit in. They still knew the fundamentals like how to lock up.

I'd say first-gen ROH/TNA talent -- Low Ki, D Bry, Samoa Joe, Daniels, MotorCity Machine Guns, Austin Aries, etc -- hold up because they were the literal last generation of guys that could work with the last generation of territory-trained wrestlers. They had the chance to mix it up with X Pac, Jerry Lynn, Lance Storm, Liger & others in NJPW, ROH, DG, Zero-1, CMLL, etc.

Everything after that has been a copy of a copy. What veterans have Lio Rush or Jungle Boy ever gotten to work with? What range of experience & excursions have they gotten?

As >>6334094 said, high-flying is an easier go-to for a wrestler because it's a really easy way to get a pop. A 450 splash or backflipping out of a german or whatever is an impressive display of athleticism, and more than that it is incredibly obviously so.

Add onto that the indie mentality where their livelihood can be substantially improved by going viral and you can imagine why there is such a prevalence of working matches that can be cut into 10-20 second clips to be shared on twitter, rather than matches that need to be viewed in their entirety to be appreciated.

>Assemble with the OWL GANG to watch Impact Wrestling on AXS with /wooo/ in /wooo/tube - http://taima.tv/r/wooo at 10pm Eastern//3am London. On tonight's show:
  • Brian Cage vs. Eddie Edwards.
  • ODB returns to Impact.
  • Old, bitter-ass Rob Van Dam speaks out on the Zoomer generation, flanked by trophy gf Katie Forbes
  • The Rascalz vs. X-Division Champion Ace Austin & Reno Scum.
  • "Rookie of the Year 1982" Johnny Swinger vs. Petey Williams.
With Throwback Throwdown in the rearview mirror, we return to our regularly scheduled programming this week as IMPACT emanates from New York City. Tune in at 8/7c on AXS TV and Twitch.

Former World Champions Brian Cage and Eddie Edwards do battle for the first time ever. The World Title match for Hard To Kill may already be set in stone, but this match will be crucial for both men if they want to be considered for future title opportunities. It’s safe to say that the rabid IMPACT Wrestling fans in the Melrose Ballroom will be split right down the middle as these fan-favorites tear it down Tuesday night.

Get ready because ODB is making her long-awaited return to IMPACT Wrestling this Tuesday. We’re unaware of what the former Knockouts Champion’s intentions are but wherever ODB goes, she ensures that she’s noticed. Could she have her eyes set on the longest-reigning Knockouts Champion of all time, Taya Valkyrie? Only time will tell.

Before Trey challenges Ace Austin for the X-Division Championship at Hard To Kill on January 12th, the two take to the ring for six-man tag team action on IMPACT. Trey will be joined by his fellow Rascalz Dez and Wentz while Ace fights alongside hired guns Adam Thornstowe and Luster The Legend of Reno Scum. Momentum is everything on the road to a title defense. If Trey can somehow pin the reigning X-Division Champion before Hard To Kill, all the momentum will be his. What role will Trey’s mother play in all of this? Watch IMPACT this Tuesday to find out.

While the majority of the roster is clamouring for a spot on each and every loaded edition of IMPACT, Rob Van Dam has seemingly given his up after he spent the last several weeks on vacation with his girlfriend Katie Forbes. Now, the new attitude RVD has decided to return to IMPACT this Tuesday to speak his mind. What will the Whole Dam Show have to say in New York City?

Am I the only one kind of disappointed with how he's been used in AEW? Penta/Omega was a big match on All In. If Pentagon Jr. had faced Mox at some point over the summer and won it would've been an upset, but not a mind-bogglingly huge one, and people would have bought the show to see that match.

Nobody is tuning in to Dynamite because of him at this point. They've made him less and less relevant and less and less appealing. I thought they were supposed to be building stars, not taking them from "could be a main eventer right now" to "It would not be surprising to see him be Sammy Guevara's first singles victory."

This dude was in Lucha Underground making the crowd go nuts, kicking ass and taking names and now he's a stepping stone for Trent. (Next week, Trent vs. Fenix. There's literally no way that match can go that I'll be happy with at this point.)

What the hell, AEW?

Pic relared was our Rock & Austin, our Hulk Hogan and Savage. Our El Santo and Blue Demon Jr. Big Daddy was our Hulk Hogan, El Santo & Rikidozan.

These two men would finish matches by being fat. Their opponents would run into them and be rebounded by their fatness and then they'd take 30 seconds to pin their opponent wheezing all the while.

Other notable draws for the world of sport era was a masked man pretending to be Japanese and hypnotised his opponents was an homage to an ancient wizard on a popular TV show who would tickle his opponents. This is what the British public would gather in droves on saturday afternoons to watch.

Somehow history has been re-written and we were supposed to believe that the flippy wristlock cruiserweight division were meant to be the big stars who carried British wrestling forward when that clearly wasn't true.

Is it any coincidence that the biggest crossover star 'britwres' has produced is a jolly dancing scottsman who entered to a Madonna remix? Seriously, look at him now. He's on prime time Scottish TV and making a better living than the people who signed contracts with NXT UK.

The 'resurgence' that occured lately was quite impressive and did a great job if getting fans in - it seemed like British wrestling had finally 'evolved' to the point where it could hold and maintain a solid niche audience. That all changed for numerous reasons and I wont go into them all.

However I feel like one reason why I feel like it ended was because the top talent we had were propped up with good marketing and booking and that the overwhelming majority of our talent couldnt connect to a worldwide audience that didnt already love them when they stepped trough the curtain.

The culture in the UK during the boom period was that everyone was 'friends' and that probably kept more than a couple wrestlers who are really just bang average getting mega pushes across the scene through being simply willed into being popular. Take Jimmy Havoc for example. A god amongst men in britwres circle but a strange looking balding middle aged man with a staple gun in AEW.

The next generation doesn't look too hopeful either. Most training schools seem dead set on teaching 'british' wrestling through passing convoluted wristhold reversals down the line so parents can be bored and wish they went to the cinema instead while their children wonder where John Cena is. All the while the guy in the schadenfreude t shirt is creaming himself.

I put the question to you /wooo/. Was britwres ever good?

>Watch AEW Dynamite with /wooo/ in /wooo/tube - http://taima.tv/r/wooo and /wooo/alt - http://taima.tv/r/woooalt at 8pm Eastern//1am London. Dynamite will be preceeded by a replay of AEW Dark at 7pm Eastern//Midnight in both channels. On tonight's show:
  • AEW World championship bout: Scorpio Sky vs. "Le Champion" Chris Jericho
  • Chris Jericho's Thanksgiving Thank You Celebration.
  • MJF vs. Hangman Page for the Dynamite Diamond Ring, which will be presented by DDP
  • Kenny Omega vs. PAC
  • Cody Rhodes returns to in-ring action against an unknown opponent
This week's episode of All Elite Wrestling Dynamite brings us another packed show which will be headlined by AEW World Champion Chris Jericho putting his title on the line against Scorpio Sky of SCU. This match-up comes two weeks after Sky pinned Jericho during an AEW Tag-Team Championship match. Tonight's episode will also see Hangman Page and MJF fighting it out to see who will win the Dynamite Diamond ring, which will be presented by WWE and WCW legend Diamond Dallas Page. We also have Cody returning to action for the first time since Full Gear.

>Kenny Omega vs PAC
Kenny Omega and PAC's last battle ended with PAC winning the match after Omega passed out to the Brutalizer. Omega faces PAC again on tonight's Dynamite and will be hoping this encounter ends differently for him. Both Omega and PAC lost their respective matches at Full Gear and will be looking to pick up some momentum heading into December.

>Chris Jericho's Thanksgiving celebration
AEW World Champion Chris Jericho announced a special Thanksgiving celebration last week where AEW fans and stars can show him some appreciation for putting All Elite Wrestling on the map. The Thank You celebration for Le Champion takes place on tonight's episode of Dynamite and we're pretty sure that there will be some bubbly on hand for the champ to enjoy. However, it could also go so wrong for him tonight...

>Chris Jericho defends the AEW World Championship against Scorpio Sky
AEW World Champion Chris Jericho will be defending his title tonight against Scorpio Sky of SCU. The match comes just weeks after Sky pinned Jericho in an All Elite Wrestling Tag-Team title match on Dynamite. Although it's unlikely that Sky will leave Chicago as AEW World Champion, if he does, he will become the first double champion in AEW.

>Hangman Page vs MJF (for the Dynamite Diamond Ring)
The last two men left standing at last week's battle royale, MJF and Hangman Page, will battle it out in singles action tonight to see who can take home the Dynamite Diamond ring. Wardlow could also be a factor in the match which means Page needs to watch his back. The ring itself will be presented by WWE and WCW legend Diamond Dallas Page.

>Cody returns to action
Cody lost his shot at the world title at Full Gear, thanks to MJF throwing in the towel on his behalf while Jericho had the Liontamer locked in. MJF turned on Cody following the match, hitting his former best friend with a low bow to leave him lying in the middle of the ring. Cody will return to action for the first time since Full Gear on tonight's Dynamite.

You're not wrong but I will say this is the risk that comes with the Elite & Jericho talking such a big game and taking so many shots at WWE.

The more attention they themselves draw to the comparison, the more fans are going to react to it. Jericho and Omega do press saying they have "real stars" and slight NXT for being "developmental"... well it's going to sting when those developmental talents get more viewers than the a "PPV worthy" show featuring a world title match in your biggest, most loyal city.
