So they're saying that The Fiend may attack The Undertaker when Smackdown moves to Fox on October 4. This could lead to an interesting feud, and hopefully 'Taker has a few more good matches left in him, but what are your thoughts on Wyatt actually potentially retiring the GOAT? Personally, I have felt for a long time that The Undertaker is so much different than any other character in history, with his mysterious aura and the fact that he is in kayfabe a damn-near unstoppable force, that he shouldn't be be given a humiliating retirement match and have to go out with defeat like that. I would honestly prefer if he just quietly faded away one day, tbh. Opinions?

...I feel like that's probably what is going to happen if they do in fact end up having a match. I'm gonna be really fucking sad to see 'Taker get defeated and retired like that. But, I am really hoping he'll start a podcast after retiring, so at least I have that to hope for.

Don't see why he wouldn't. While he did go over Bray at Mania, I remember him making Bray look really strong in a time when he was on the decline. If he gives Bray his win back, then it would be huge for Bray in his current Fiend incarnation.

Monday's WWE RAW episode, featuring the final hype for WWE Clash of Champions,
>drew an average of 2.130 million viewers, according to Showbuzz Daily.

Last year's RAW episode that went up against the NFL Monday Night Football opener drew 2.74 million viewers, so this show is down 22.26% from last year. There was a 22% drop between hour 1 and hour 3 this week, which is the biggest hour 1 - hour 3 drop since Paul Heyman was hired as the Executive Director of the red brand.

This week's show, featuring the return to Madison Square Garden, featured WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin plus the first-ever King of the Ring Triple Threat and the final build for Sunday's pay-per-view.

>For this week's show, the first hour drew 2.362 million viewers (last week's hour 1 - 2.638 million),
>the second hour drew 2.183 million viewers (last week's hour 2 - 2.557 million)
>and the final hour drew 1.845 million viewers (last week's hour 3 - 2.326 million).

The NFL MNF game between Houston and New Orleans topped the night in viewership and the 18-49 demographic with 13.078 million viewers. >Are shows losing 22% viewership in 12 months across the board?

There is a USA today article (not sure if I can put links here, but it's easy to find) that highlights the fact that using TV has plunged 15% and is down 36% since 2014.

Please remember that NFL is available to more viewers. For WWE to crack that top 20 or top 10 spot on a cable network is rather impressive for a "dying" organization.

>And how much money does getting 500k viewers on Tout net them?

1 billions followers combined for their social media accounts. One of the highest subscribed YouTube page with hundreds of thousands of views each week. Seems like there is interest.

>Which demographic? The average age of the WWE viewer is 40-50 years old

18-49 which is a coveted demographic.

>“If you talk about the upstart, what they’re going out and saying is that they’re an alternative,” Levesque said. “We were that alternative five years ago. We opened the door for being an alternative, we opened the door to show people that it can be done on a bigger level and on a different basis. > As far as the All Out PPV goes, it was a mixed bag. Traditional U.S. television PPV was down significantly from Double or Nothing, although will finish well ahead of All In. Streaming PPV in the U.S. on B/R Live was up, although we don’t know by how much. TNT did a one hour hype show at 10 p.m. the night before, but on TNT, they pushed B/R Live as the way to see it and not traditional PPV as hard, so it made sense B/R numbers would be up.

> FITE TV worldwide numbers were down. The people who bought it on FITE wouldn’t have seen the hype show. Losing Omega vs. Moxley may have been the key there and with traditional PPV. But ITV PPV numbers in the U.K. were up. The impression was that they expected to end up about the same as the last show, which would be considered a success. But based on the U.S. PPV numbers, I think it’ll be down slightly, since TV PPV was down in almost every city we’ve gotten numbers from.

> The only straight number we have, which is U.S. television PPV, looks to be about 28,000 buys. Double or Nothing as of a few days after was closer to 35,000 and ended up 39,000, so this should have another ten to 12 percent added to that number when all is said and done. All this together would indicate something around 100,000, which, while not up from last time, does show staying power which was the big question. It’s still above what any company other than WWE/F and WCW ever did, and many of those companies had weekly television on strong stations. It also beat most of the WCW shows at the end.

> On both television PPV and B/R, 46 percent of those ordering had ordered Double or Nothing. That means 54 percent didn’t. Does that mean they made new fans after the first show? Does it mean people picked and chose and some didn’t want to buy the first, and others didn’t want to buy this one? If that’s the case, then the hardcore audience willing to spend money for the product right now as far as PPV goes is much larger than we anticipated. But it’s also an audience less apt to buy every one. But the number of new orders, as well as non-repeating orders, to me, were both surprisingly high. So if there is a lesson from the number, that would be it. But everything changes next month.

> Unlike with live gates where there is a several month lag to the results and increases television gives you, the only examples of a new company doing TV after getting television for the first time, which would be TNA and UFC both in 2005, was that the increase in numbers there were immediate. But 2005 and 2019 are completely different when it comes to television, and also, with lower priced streaming of WWE and New Japan, and now boxing, the mentality regarding PPV has changed and it’s a far tougher business. In that sense, these numbers are even more impressive now. But it’s not about now, it’s about what happens across the board once TV hits.

> After the PPV went off the air, Cody called out Tony Khan, acting like Khan didn’t know he was being called out, basically to thank him for all he had done to launch the company as the unsung hero. Khan then talked about creating a tradition. His idea is to try and do what the Greensboro Coliseum had from 1961 to 1986 before they dropped it, as a Thanksgiving tradition. The idea is to do All Out as one of the company’s signature events of the year every Labor Day weekend at the Sears Center, and then come back with a TV shoot the night before Thanksgiving, also at the Sears Center, which this year is 11/27.

> This year that’s quite a challenge because WWE has four shows in the market at the Allstate Arena, Smackdo…

Let's say FOX decides that to lure my sports fans into watching wrestling, they will assemble a panel of official match-raters to score matches, much in the way Meltzer does. But instead of it being all opinion-based like Meltzer, FOX wants no less than 5 concrete concepts/categories to score the match. What should those categories be?
>Execution of Moves?
>Character work?

What, if any, are the true criteria for what makes one match better than another?

Not to say that there has to be an original angle each time, but something beyond "Fight me because I said so!" This is an area that's very weak these days, as it used to be common to see workers fighting over valets, for example.

>2. Depth of Characters
If two guys have very refined gimmicks, it will make for a better match.

>3. Composition of In-Ring Choreography
Otherwise known as the only thing Meltzerdrones care about anymore. Laying the match out in general.

>4. Realism & Accuracy of In-Ring Choreography
To counterbalance #3, there's this: the Cornette metric. How much does this look like a reasonable "wrestling match" with only a small amount of suspended disbelief? Could this be a real match?

>5. Setting & Cinematography
A match matters more in an arena versus a bingo hall. It matters more at Wrestlemania than at Fastlane. Also included is the set design, the spectacle, and also importantly, the camera work (a lot of us here don't like what Kevin Dunn does with his cameras).

>6. Heat/Crowd Response
Underscoring the unique "live theatre-in-the-round" nature of wrestling. A bad crowd can kill a match, and a good crowd can take a great match to mythical status.

>7. Emotion
Not just drama. There can be good comedy matches too. The point is the match should make you feel. This is the human criterion.

Post the biggest innovators, creative minds, and toughest SOBs according to themselves. I'll start with Mike "I'm behind everything good in WCW" Graham. Such an innovative genius that claimed he saved WCW 2.5 million dollars in a year where they lost over 60 million. At 5'8" he towered over the dimeless vanilla midgets with tremendous drawing power

Given that Ventura was persona non grata by WWF/Vince at the time, thats fairly impressive. Do these idiots not know it takes like 5 seconds to look up dates?

No. As far as the network was concerned, Jesse was hot at that moment, having just won the Governor's office in Minnesota. Wrestling was hot, too, as we were still embroiled in the Monday Night Wars. Just shoot it quick, show it, and hope it gets ratings. The movie has the dubious distinction of being shown the same night as Over The Edge where Owen fell to his death.

Tonight’s WWE SmackDown Live will see the company return to Madison Square Gardens for the go-home show ahead of WWE Clash Of Champions.

Last night saw Stone Cold Steve Austin return to WWE Raw and tonight will see another legend return as The Undertaker makes his presence known on SmackDown, but why is the Deadman rising once again?

The King of the Ring tournament will continue tonight as well with the semifinal match between Chad Gable and Elias, with the winner earning a spot at WWE Clash Of Champions against Baron Corbin.

Roman Reigns will be seeking revenge against Erick Rowan after last weeks surprise attack and Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton’s rivalry will go full-circle as they return to Madison Square Gardens.

>205 Live
Last week on WWE 205 Live, Lince Dorado and Humberto Carrillo collided in a fast-paced contest that was not only rooted in their personal rivalry, but also had a major stipulation. If Dorado was victorious, he would earn a spot in the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match at WWE Clash of Champions, pitting him against Carrillo and WWE Cruiserweight Champion Drew Gulak.

Following a hard-fought battle, The Golden Lynx pinned Carrillo, thus earning his first championship opportunity. However, the celebration was short-lived as Gulak and Tony Nese pounced, attacking both Dorado and Carrillo.

For his part, Nese has been looking to rebuild momentum since losing the WWE Cruiserweight Championship and in recent weeks has found himself realigning with Gulak, whose own transformation to a more serious approach to competition has paid dividends.

Jhon apparently drinks a lot. No doubt to help himself cope with all the dying kids he's met over the years. I'm sure he loves doing it, but seeing all those little kids knowing that they'll be gone soon must take a lot out of you.
