Were these the two best big men of all time? What prevented them from being bigger stars? They were too talented and too charismatic to have ended up where they were in their wrestling careers in my eyes. Is it just the fact that they were basically fat guys?

>Wow Triple H is SO GOOD at not being as insane a control freak as Vince McMahon... he should run the whole company!

You understand that when the WWE was at its peak, it was Vince McMahon in charge, and he surrounded himself with the best minds in the business, like Pat Patterson, Jim Cornette, and let the wrestlers choose their own words instead of micromanaging their every syllable and movement.

If you're under the impression that Vince McMahon was ever a good booker, you are genuinely ignorant about pro wrestling history. Vince McMahon was - WAS - a fantastic promoter and his #1 strength was that he brought in people who knew what the fuck they were doing, and gave them an international platform.

If Triple H's SOLE FUCKING CONTRIBUTION to Raw when he takes over is that he GETS THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY OF THE PEOPLE WHO KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING, then he's 10,000,000,000% better at the fucking job than Vince McMahon.

Can we take some time to go over the beginnings of GFW?
It's not much of a promotion now. But years ago, there was some hype, and some shit that I'm really struggling to remember.

>A roster reveal that was in a hotel or something, and someone here had to post about it live because that /wooo/kie happened to be there.
>events that were streamed from a phone
>Jeff Jarrett somehow falling to the point where he had to turn to doing a cash4gold-like scam with Global Force Gold

Jarrett was always a minority owner of TNA, so Dixie couldn't get rid of him completely and he had the freedom to pursue stuff like Ring Ka King and All Wheels Wrestling.

First JJ was brought back as head of talent relations in late 2013 after Bruce Prichard left. He tried to salvage the deal and hold onto AJ Styles; let him do the "rogue world champ" thing where he defended the title in AAA, Wrestle-1 and Preston City.
In the meantime, he and Toby Keith tried to buyback TNA from the Carters but Dixie's dad insisted that she still had to have a job, so the deal fell apart.

JJ quit, John Gaburick took over for talent relations and drove away AJ, Joe, Roode, Storm, Aries, TJP and EY over the next few years.

He launched GFW and it was clearly going to be a life boat because he figured TNA was going under. (it wasn't far from reality)

Then he landed the deal to be NJPW's PPV distributor for WK. The rumor was he trying to land a deal as a promoter/producer where he would put on WK and another summer NJPW event, like the G1 Final on PPV plus AAA's Lucha World Cup and Triplemania. That all fell apart and both promotions opted to go solo.

He went back to TNA in the summer of 2015 for the "GFW invasion" angle for a few reasons: he needed money to keep GFW going and Dixie was offering to buy out his minority ownership to finally be done with him. Because he is a master carnie, he negotiated: A Hall of Fame induction so Dixie couldn't bury him on his way out; a GFW invasion angle to give them TV time and access to TNA talents for his upcoming shows.

He did the summer baseball stadium tours and the Amped pilot tapings + some co branded indie shows throughout summer/fall of 2015.

As amateurish as the presentation all was, he actually was making connections somewhat. He had the Young Bucks and Gallows & Anderson working his shows! He clearly saw the money in the Bullet Club.

Then the rumor was the best TV deal he could get was the Pop TV one. He didn't have Panda Energy, so he couldn't afford to take a no-money deal and TNA got it.

By 2016, I'd say thats when GFW was unofficially dead.... until anthem stepped in and bought TNA. And they reached out to him for information about the company and how to run it in early 2017 and he talked his way into being back in charge and sold them on the idea that the "TNA" brand was dead and it was better to relaunch as GFW. FWIW, he gave Impact the idea to do co branded indie shows.

The last gasp of GFW was probably the NWA 70 show last fall.

Also Jarrett ended with Impact Wrestling in late 2017. Then he sued them because GFW Amped was on GWN and he recently lost that lawsuit. GWN is now called Impact+ and they seem to want to have nothing to do with Jarrett, DIxie, Bishoff, Russo, Hogan or GFW

I think the problem with ZSJ and a lot of 'technical' wrestlers is that they don't seem to understand that the drama should be built from the possibility of a hold being correctly applied. ZSJ just spams holds and almost always manages to apply them, and then he and his opponent just kind of sit there in the hold until it's time to escape from it and continue the match, so any drama that could be built from a deadly submission expert is completely voided. Why are we expected to buy him as a submission expert when none of his holds seem to actually work?

In shootstyle for instance, people scramble like madmen for the ropebreak if they're on the receiving end of an armbar or leglock attempt. This makes the holds feel dangerous as fuck as they can end the match in seconds, and so it becomes a tense and drama filled spectacle of who can work down the opponent enough to apply the hold in a way that will finish them almost immediately.

The possibility of a flash submission also ramps up this tension as the match could end at any moment. There's no drama in ZSJ and co's submissions because if they're put on during the first 10 or 15 minutes then you know nothing will come of it.

If I was booking Zack I'd give him a nasty hold that can be applied really fast, and have him use it to finish people in minutes in matches on Road To tours, then have the central point of the drama in a bigger match be built around this hold and whether he can apply it or not, with his opponent doing all they can to avoid it whilst trying to implement their own game plan.

This. I've been watching wrestling for twenty years now and by no means do I think my opinion is the be all and end all but I just never get invested in ZSJ matches. I think there were a few maybe last year that almost had me going.

It's not because he is a submission wrestler though. It's because I find there is a lack of tension in his matches.

Restructiuring New Japan to try and fit in a Women's/Joshi Division Ignore Report View Thread Reply

Because it seems like people won't shut up about wanting to see NJPW book women, while not knowing how Japan works at all, I thought I'd try to take a stab at seeing if it could be done.

Now, for starters, if NJPW were to book women starting, say, tomorrow or so, I wouldn't want them to just half-ass things. Like, don't just create a belt and throw 30 women in there and fight for it like literally every other promotion does. I think they should be just as equal to the men with just as much as the men get.

So the first thing I would do is I'd lay out the 4 belts this division would have: the IWGP Women's Heavyweight Championship (50kg and higher), the IWGP Women's Junior Heavyweight Championship (49kg and below), the IWGP Women's Tag Team Championship (openweight), and the IWGP Women's United States Championship. (openweight, to foreigners)

Now, just so there isn't a massive overload of titles in the company, I would have to cut some titles and maybe unify some more. For starters, I think it's time the NEVER belts disappear. The openweight & trios belts. They're nice, but they don't really mean anything nowadays, and it's just something for someone to have, so I don' think anyone would miss those sets of belts when they're gone. Then, I'd unify the IWGP Jr. Tag and Heavy Tag titles and make them openweight, as NJPW doesn't have a massive roster of tag teams to begin with, and if the match in Dallas between RPG3K & GOD is any indication, the Jr. tag teams can hang just as well with the heavies, and make it look believable.

So my revised NJPW belt structure would be this…

For the men:
>IWGP Heavyweight Championship
>IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship
>IWGP Intercontinental Championship
>IWGP Tag Team Openweight Championship
>IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship

And for the women:
>IWGP Women's Heavyweight Championship
>IWGP Women's Jr. Heavyweight Championship
>IWGP Women's Tag Team Openweight Championship
>IWGP Women's United States Heavyweight Championship

So that's the belts sorted. Now onto the leagues, tours, & tournaments.

That part's simple enough: on the tours, just insert more women's prelim tags and singles matches in place of where you'd book regular men's matches to begin with. The cards don't have to be overloaded with them, but if you give them just as much as the men, the fans would be satisfied.

As for leagues & tourneys: I'd like to see the NJPW women get just as much as their male counterparts do. So I was thinking about giving February, which would be around New Beginning time to the Jr. women, and make that kinda like their Best of the Super Jrs, but, of course, just for women. The culmination could be on one of the New Beginning shows, maybe the first or second show, however you wanna do it. I'd love to see them get something like the New Japan Cup as well, so let's say they get that where the Destruction tour would be, so September. Win that, then go on to Destruction and fight a women's champ of your choosing, or however you wanna do that. Maybe you can even do a small tag league just before the G1 climax for the women in where Kizuna Road would be, I dunno. As for a women's equivalent of a G1, I'm not sure how you'd do that yet.

So, just to recap the potential women's leagues & tournaments:

like genuinely from the bottom of my heart there's, what, about 18 women's wrestling promotions in japan if you include the super-small ones like Shinshu Girls and WPWA? and out of all those only stardom and TJPW are run by men? in a society as patriarchal as japan's? and you really think having them play second fiddle to fucking YOSHI-HASHI is of benefit to them? how? i don't want to be on some stupid tumblr shit about this but in what fucking situation do you think society pushes women in sport over men? did we not just have this discussion over the entire women's world cup? how fucking dumb do you have to be to think this shit benefits anybody but your broke ass?
