Would Shibata and D Bry both somehow getting cleared to have a match together at the Tokyo Dome be the artistic peak of pro wrestling?

Well I've only ever heard King's Road referred to as the "artistic peak of wrestling" & I guess that's the next logical step.

I'll say this.
The story of shibata's career was never going to have a happy ending but with that being said it's probably the best ending to a career possibly ever with one of the visuals in the last 25 years.

Death in the ring will always be nothing but a horrific tragedy. Anyone trying to glamorize it is a buffoon.

The idea of Terry Funk dying peacefully in his bed and not in a wrestling ring frightens me.

Agree completely. Shibata's run has been great. True wrestle kino. The reality of his feuds and matches, his style, his presence, his awesome matches, the slow burn push to the main event. It all culminated, possibly for the last time, with him being massively over and delivering a once in a lifetime ass whooping to Okada. That match is fantastic on many levels for me and is easily one of my favourite matches ever, despite only happening a month or so ago.

We need to go deeper.

>kicks out of the Rainmaker
>Okada immediately goes for another
>cuts him off with a huge worked headbutt
>hits the Ushigoroshi
>follows it up with a G2S/PK combo
>Okada kicks out
>GTR into sleeper/PK/rear naked choke combo
>Okada passes out
>Goto wins
>Shibata and KENTA come down and hoist him high in the air

I would love this for three reasons.

  1. two guys would be rewarded for their loyalty
  2. NZ would legitimately receive a boost in wrestling interest, anytime anyone from NZ does something worth a fuck the whole country jumps on the bandwagon.
  3. It would follow the most kino moment in wrestling with the most meme worthy moment in wrestling.

The weird thing with Terry is that no matter what a death in the ring is tragic. However I feel that is how Terry would want to go.

>Daniel Bryan finally gets out of his WWE contract and goes to Japan
>Shibata recovers well enough to wrestle but his brain is still fucked
>NJPW refuses to clear Shibata out of fear
>Shibata and Bryan Danielson agrees to give it all for wrestling and break into the Tokyo Dome when its not used one night for one final match
>The only audience member is meltzer
>Shibata and Bryan Danielson has an hour long match in where each spot runs down the history of their careers
>Match ends in a shoot double headbutt
>They both die in the ring on impact with smiles on their faces
>Meltzer still gives it 4.75 stars

If they worked for free in a setting and with a concept that conveyed a specific idea and constituted 'art' then maybe. I can't imagine it would be good or worthwhile, though, since they are trained entertainers and have no experience or knowledge relating to art-making.
