Still not a main-eventer by Michael Nakazawa - Wed, 15 Nov 2017 03:07:16 EST ID:9D9iwU5d No.5895067 Ignore Report Quick Reply

>Most consistently entertaining in-ring performer on the roster
>Really strong, knows a million moves and can capable of wild athletic spots
>Has a great look (especially with the whole Bond-style suave euro shtick)
>Terrific body language and facial expressions
>Continued to work MOTN at No Mercy after smashing his teeth back inside his skull like it wasn't a thing
>"phenomenal", "nobody [brought] more to the table as a performer" - Ric Flair, who also suggested becoming his on-screen manager to help with his mic work
>"Cesaro would make a great world-champion", "Push Cesaro" - Mick Foley
>"Cesaro should be main eventing every night" - John Cena

The thing that upsets me most about current WWE is that this guy still hasn't had a run with a world title.

Needs to be face, needs better booking, needs to work on promos. He has a great witty personality in non-kayfabe interviews but when he gets on the mic he's either reciting lines or something is just off.

Struggles with promos and has no charisma on the mic. In ring, sure, but unfortunately WWE want their top guys to talk. Other than Roman of course. He should also try wrestling less like an indie darling.

Doesn't really sound like praising so much as neutrality.
I'm convinced Cesaro will get his due. Cesaro himself seems convinced he will get his due. It's simply a matter of how patient one's willing to be for it to still be "worth it".

Worth mentioning that The Bar's giving me significant Hell No vibes in terms of how strongly they're booked & heavily they're featured. And I predicted at the time (correctly, as it turns out) that Hell No was a vehicle to prop up Bryan for an eventual World Title win. Thank fuck Cesaro's tall & heel, less likely to get Orton'd.

Cesaro is unfortunately seen as a good hand, which historically only gets thank-you runs from the company and is never THE guy, just the guy who makes the guy.

If Cesaro sticks it out in the WWE he'll get there, but right now he's stuck being upper midcard gatekeeper and no matter what kind of accolades he gets in the WWE internet smarks will never be happy because he won't be the guy the promotion is built around

fixed. He had a few US title runs before the brand split but has never had a run with the workhorse title.

Also, STILL hasn't had a singles match at Mania. Boggles my mind.

There's an argument for keeping Cesaro in the position he is in now. He's a great utlitity player. I'd argue that there's nobody in WWE better suited to putting guys over than Cesaro. He makes any offense look great, I'd argue no heavyweight on the roster takes good lucha things like him, and even power guys look better tossing him about. The crowd constantly gets behind him from even the slightest possibility of a push, so he's almost always a believable contender. He can brawl, he can base, he can work as a strong man against smaller guys, he can straight up mat wrestle. Dude has everything you want in an upper midcard / gatekeeper to the main event. And then when you don't have a lot for him, you can drop him in the tag division to give it a boost.

What you lose by putting Cesaro as THE guy in your company is not equal to what you gain from it.

It sucks, and it would be great to see him get a title run, but I always feel like if I were booking WWE, I wouldn't have Cesaro as a long term champion either.

the problem is, we're at a stage now in wrestling fandom where we appreciate the workhorses and the mechanics more than ever, so even if WWE is doing something "right" in its positioning of its stars, it'll still be shit on by the modern wrestling fan. I agree that Cesaro's way more useful as a utility player/good hand, in the same way that a lot of workhorses in past WWE were, but he's so good at his role that not pushing him in this day and age will just annoy the modern fan, which leads to resentment of the WWE.

On a side note, it seems that the WWE was at its peak "smark pandering" when it had Bret and Shawn as champs, since Bret is a more technically proficient Cesaro and Shawn is a more charismatic one (and even so, they had Razor as their midcard hero), and we all know how that turned out business wise. It seems like historically, WWE's down moments all came when they push people like Cesaro, ie workrate freaks, as opposed to their charismastic big men who can't work as well but can easily be propped up by superior workers in the ring or by good booking. In a way, that "justifies" or explains Cesaro's position in the card, but it definitely stings knowing he's so good in the ring and his weaknesses can definitely be hidden or propped up by proper booking.

I agree with your points but I think with two rosters stacked with indie darling workrate guys to carry the midcard and two world titles it wouldn't hurt them at all to give him a run at the top of one of the brands.
And as far as WWE's obsession with appealing to non-fans goes: when a non-wrestling-fan friend says to me they're interested in having a look at some wrestling, I show them a match with Cesaro in it and at the by the end they usually say something like "wow that bald guy fucking rules"

He could also juggle your extended family while yodelling.
Even if he's not the strongest on the mic, he does have that kind of charisma that gets across to the crowd, even if Vince doesn't feel he connects. Also, to be able to play off guys like Swagger, Zeb, Kidd, Nattie and Sheamus that's a lot of versatility for a guy who people say doesn't have a personality.

him not being able to talk wouldn't make a bit of difference if WWE allowed him to have a manager who can get over.

but because vince insists on never allowing managers to get over, cesaro is fucked. vince wants his performers to be a single package, so he doesn't have to pay two people for one act. also explains his hatred of tag teams.

Cesaro is, was, and probably will forever be THE tag-team guy. Nothing wrong with that.

I get the feeling a lot of you seem to share that he should be "higher up", but I don't really agree with it. Sure, eventually he needs a solo run somewhere near the top, but he just is so damn good in stables/tag teams that it'd be a waste to not utilize him there. Hell, he was mostly a tag/stable guy all through his indie run too, which most of you seem to forget. Sure he had great singles matches then too, but he has always looked way better when he's got someone on his side to play off of. There's a reason why people remember KOW, BDK, and even Swiss Money Holding over his singles stints.

Pretty much nothing wrong with him in the WWE. Has been getting screentime constantly since the beginning, pretty much always booked as a threat, always getting put over by the commentary and his peers. I'd be angry too if he wasn't used, but hes been more than fine in my books.

WWE has never been about who's the best in-ring wrestler, nor should they be Pretty much the same thing why competitions like the Idols and such don't really ever crown the "technically best singers" as their winners, imo. And again, nothing wrong with that.

So, yeah. A thank you run or two on the top, but nothing more, barring some stable shenanigans.
