Time to get rid of them. They been crowd killers since the 90s. You got better chance of getting back body drops or atomic drops in.

I'm making a petion to remove or cut them down. They should only be used to get aces fight out of it in the big matches,

Son, just stop. You need to get some help for your delusional state. Please call a mental health center (never call the cops for this sort of thing because they'll likely kill you).

Sorry but I'm gonna remove the rest holds. They're hurting the business.

Do worked stomps, taunts, counters, chokes, brawling outside the ring instead,

>I'm gonna remove the rest holds.

Are you going to kill wrestlers who do them until the industry bans them? Because that is pretty much the only way you will get rid of rest holds and I doubt you have the stomach to kill, to really shove a knife so deep into someone that you feel their blood go from warm to cool as the life drains out, to look someone in the eyes as the lights go out and they take their last breath. But if'n you do have the testicular fortitude to take someone out for daring to bore you, who would you go after first, and how would you kill them in a way that sends a message to the industry at large?

Rest holds are a vital organ in the body of the pro-wrestling match.

Certain things just shouldn't be touched.

You're not wrong. That every match has to have a rest-hold spot is a good example of why even "workrate-heavy" WWE feels incredibly stale and formulaic. The modern audience is intelligent enough to know that professional fighters need to take breathers and instead of incorporating that in the match through longer selling or just taking a second on the floor would do a ton to make the show feel more organic, but instead we have to deal with Vince's insistence that the wrestlers are superhuman while still making 99% of them look like shit in every other way and we all instinctively know that going to the floor means that they're about to go to a commercial break and will come back with the face in a headlock. Shit, there's not even a reason to put commercials during matches other than "that's how we do it here".

Ad spacing is more a network mandate than a WWE mandate. NBC Universal is almost as heavy on ad times as Viacom, which loves to add five extra minutes of ad time to shows on TV Land and Comedy Central.

People who complain about rest holds are the same people who bitch when the first 10-15 minutes of a match is slow and not fast paced.

Wrestling isn't what wrestling favs want, they want factions wars, fuck finishes, brawling, sex, gimmick matches, finisher spam, short midcard matches, long promos where the fans get up.

NJPW used to a lot of limbwork and even matwork. Which I liked.

But asking wwe to remove restholds is too much? which no American is into unless it's the babyface ace breaking out of it. They could just work the leg for 4 mins then abort it
Road Warrior Animal - Thu, 17 May 2018 14:36:56 EST ID:vAvu6PCc No.6058204 Ignore Report Quick Reply
They could use ring ropes to choke or eye pokes or eye gouges instead. Or back rakes.

Or more ring psychology.

headlocks are a lot less awful if you have your old wrestler on color sell the fuck out of how big a deal they are, and how dizzying it is to be in one, and how hard you have to focus and concentrate to apply one, bullshit like that

would be entertainig if they were holds and the defensee is actively trying to escape and the holder is trying to keep him down

thats what working a hold is

Speak for yourself faggot. I want no strikes or throws or gimmicks, only wrestling, real nigga shit for real niggas.

Seriously though this is an ingrained part of the WWE match psychology where there must be a heel and there must be a face and this is how the match goes. It’s called the seven points match and WWE have become exceedingly good at, streamlining it into three minutes so they can promote more twenty minute triple H promos and badly scripted incest angles.

-Trade of basic manuvouers which babyface eventually wins (optionally broken into two parts by a “standoff” spot in the middle where both men stop and act ready for one another while the crowd applauses).

-Face takes control briefly to get the crowd on his side and demonstrate that’s he’s more skilled when the playing field is level.

-Heel cuts his momentum/control off by doing something underhanded then works the face over (sometimes a “resthold” here), attempting to garner heat for the heel and sympy for babyface.

-False baby face comeback as he escapes and tries to build momentum but is cut off by another underhanded tactic and the heel is in control again (often “resthold” here). More heat/sympy.

-“Double down” spot where face escapes and levels the momentum as both men go down (double clothesline, superplex, lately in WWE a no sell strike exchange ripped off from Japanese tropes, etc).

-Face comeback where they work their way back to their feet and face gains momentum because the playing field is equal again and he is feeding off the audiences bullshit clapping or w/e.

-Finish - DQ/ face gets clean pin/heel wins by cheating.

Congratulations you just watched every WWE match ever, that’s their level of “ring psychology”. The “resthold” is an important part of this template because no matter who is in the ring it forces the audience to get behind the babyface and dislike the heel, because the babyface is the only one doing anything interesting while the heel is literally doing nothing on purpose, preventing visually fun shit from happening and ruining your entertainment on purpose so you’ll dislike his control and like the control of the babyface doing dropkicks and running around. You HAVE to get behind the face or the match will just be the heel laying on him which is boring which nobody wants to see, so they are twisting your arm into clapping or cheering for the face to break out of those restholds to get it over with and so you can see the rest of the match; so much so that it is an automatic response from the audience now, and WWE can program heat/sympathy for whomever from the audience as per their script.

So you see the rest hold IS WWEs entire match mechanic especially when it comes to tv matches. Why would they break such an easy template when they can shovel it at you over and over again with no thought and you just eat it up? That would be bad for business.

It’s basic wrestling psychology 101 but if you watch a Danielson match in pwg or roh or any match really where people are trying, you get more variance with other spots added and other layers of actual psychology. Like if you watch Kawada / Misawa there’s so much more going on.

But if you watch WWE you get this almost every single time.
