Do you think that getting rid of the massive fucking trons and LED aprons and posts and the fucking LED ramp and cutting down on all that shit, and just putting on good consistent wrestling, make fans like us come back to the product and just generally make WWE more likable in general?
I've been looking at pics of WWE house shows like the one pictured, and I gotta say it looks a lot more impressive when you can pack in twice as many people into the show because you aren't using the giant entrances.
I know someones gonna say "Vince has money so he doesn't give a shit", I don't care what vince cares about , I care about what I want to see out of the product. So what do you think?

I think moving to a more sports like presentation in general would help. No more cartoony characters and backstage segments, treat everything more seriously. That's one of the reasons wrestling fans are flocking to NJPW

You'd still have a coke-addicted schizophrenic okaying bollocks written by failed sitcom writers for the "muscle wanker of the year" and being surprised when the charisma-less sack of poorly stapled together muscles doesn't strike a note with the crowd, who he vocally criticizes on twitter.

Only with less fireworks.

Also, bring back the RAW98 set.

The enormous entrance and ramp or walkway makes wrestlers look small and insignificant. The LED's are visual overload. Its presentation is beyond stale now since its been looking the same for 10 years. its called RAW but there is nothing RAW about it. Its sterile and shit looking.

It'd be more watchable from a purely visual standpoint, but it's not going to do anything for their pants on head writing and booking.

Firstly, they aren't going to fill those extra seats 9 times out of 10, so having the large stage probably helps in that respect.

Second, they already use the same two stage setups for everything now, and have axed pyro. You can make an argument for the LED posts and apron to get the boot, but at this point, downgrading any further would just make them look small time. People expect and enjoy large spectacles, that's why all the concerts and festivals and other sports events even (Golden Knights) have them.

I don't think it'd make the product better, but it'd make their live shows less of an eyesore.

I don't know how they do it, but WWE shows are simultaneously look over produced and bland as fuck.

tbh I find NJPW's presentation a little dry which keeps me from actively following it outside watching the odd match here and there. Main roster WWE is garbage, but if they can strike a balance between what they have now and a more serious product than that'd be great.

It won't fix the booking so no. You can polish a turd but at the end of the day it's still a turd.

All the LED shit and general overproduction doesn't bother me so much, although I understand why it might not be for everyone. The part I don't understand is why you need all that window dressing if you're not actually doing anything with it. The devolution of entrance videos is particularly glaring, as they've been reduced to the wrestler's name in glorified clipart, and MAYBE a couple highlight clips if you're lucky. The LED ring aprons, 95% of the time, do nothing but display static graphics. It just makes no sense why you'd spend all that money - especially when production items the fans actually enjoyed have been lost to cost-cutting - and not even try to milk any sort of value from it.

I wouldn't mind this so much if the stage setup was more like NXT. That said, entrance videos in general started going to shit when they became highlight reels that didn't sync to music and feel special or different from one another. Shit, the Street Fighter V character trailers feel more like entrance videos than what WWE passes off as Titantrons these days.

Wrestling has always been trash media and should reflect such.

If I wanted sophisticated TV show, I'd watch HBO or Netflix. Or a 3 hour spectacle, I'd go to movies.

Wrestling is equivalent of fast food. It should be fast paced and unapologetic. WWE is currently trying to be McDonalds which only sells you salads because they are insecure of their whole business concept.

I find the presentation very fresh and fitting for the way they book. There's no need for a elaborate entrance for anything but big shows and WK/mania/whatever fed's TOP show. We do NOT need an LED walkway

Other than the really big ramp I don't have a big problem with WWE's set.

Some smaller setups can feel more comfy, but it's really least of their problems.

WWE didnt become the biggest company on the planet by focusing on workrate. shit wwe use is great when used right. if you got a massive tron but only use it to put the wrestlers name on it then whats the fucking point?

I don't think they necessarily need to cut down on the production or remove any of the new pieces. I think they need to overhaul their look. It's just a flashier version of what's been for 15+ years, and it's been aped by everyone, becoming a very standard, boring look. WWE as the industry leader should be pushing things forward visually, and instead they're just tacking LED boards on top of the old shit.
Primo - Thu, 14 Jun 2018 16:29:50 EST ID:nvb31/+n No.6081347 Ignore Report Quick Reply
OP you sort of answered your own question but in a weird way.

WWE doesn't need to cut down LED boards, it doesn't need to cut down or scale back anything.

It's a billion dollar company, it should make even more stages and ramps, there should be special holiday stages and arenas for RAWs and SDLs, there should be special stages for MITB, Summerslams, etc.

WWE just needs to fix it's booking, and be consistent with real storylines (even the soapy cartoony ones can be good if it's produced well and means we'll get some sort of ending with a WRESTLING finish).

TL;DR: WWE just needs to book better and it would be fine. Scaling back makes it look even worse.

Putting ladders on the stage is their idea of special.

The problem is that WWE has a massive budget but not a lot of focus on how to use it very interestingly so they just do the big light shows and until recently pyro.

Don't cut back on spectacle but make the spectacle more than just light shows and pyro.

LU is the first company since WCW to really make WWE look bad when it comes to production values, because even though WWE has a more massive budget it doesn't use it half as well as LU does. The intentionally dirty and poorly-lit LU arena somehow looks much better than any arena WWE has been to recently including most recent Mania arenas I remember, not to mention LU skits looking much better than WWE ones.

Slashing the budget isn't necessarily the answer but WWE really needs to figure out how to be more visually appealing again, not to mention start doing more Final Deletion style matches and more cinematic lore segments.

I always think it's bullshit to just dump all blame on one person or small group of people but maybe Dunn and his whole department is what's really wrong with WWE.

WWE have gotten really cheap on backstage stuff

You hardly see varied backstage locations and even more rarely do you see on-location filming outside the arena.

More often than not all you get are people standing in front of a colour-lit curtain

This shit right here. NXT's staging and production look leagues better than the main roster shows precisely because they are bare-bones and "small" compared to the main roster shows.

The last time we got anything like that in any substantial way was with Team Hell No, and those segments did a hell of a job in getting them over.

As someone that has been attending wrestling shows for about 18 years, I miss the old days of WWE house shows with the stripped down look. It was unique and had a different vibe. Now the staging is like a poor man's version of the TV sets and just comes off like a cheap knock off of their own product.

My biggest peeve is the ring posts. I don't mind the LED ring apron. But the LEDs on the ring post is dangerous, expensive, and just looks bad.
