Will there be an AEW video game utilizing the old AKI engine?

it's the right call

aew will never get the kind of budget wwe has for its games, and look at how dated those look
better shoot for something retro, but do so in a way that sets it apart from the fire pros

i don't care too much about aew itself but i'd love to see more wrestling games around

Good luck with that. Most normies probably wouldn't even bother with it. It's all about "muh graphics" and "muh online". Normies don't care about gameplay any more.

the AKI engine is fucking dead and boomers need to move on from it. make something new instead of harping on and on about a n64 game

You don't need many "normies" to bother with it, just monetize enough wrestling fans and it should be good.

>Normies don't care about gameplay any more.
you're too jaded of a gamer

low poly games are still popular, if they sold this for 30 or 40 bucks as a digital download, and not as a 90 dollar disc, no one will mind the gfx
and buying the rights to this engine and remapping it wont cost them much
do it cheap, sell it cheap, itll be cool

fans of those AKI games is exactly their target audience, as they want to attract that disillusioned Attitude Era fanbase, not to mention how much kenny, bucks and cody all reference retro video games in their gear and gimmicks.
an AEW AKI game checks all the boxes

plus those games are rad

Half the games coming out on Steam these days are blatant nostalgia ripoffs so I could see it having success.

I haven't actually gotten around to these games yet, hear good things. The roster would suck but at least there would be a lot of creation and customization.

I mean they could also just do AEW dlc for Fire Pro

NJPW might prevent that from happening though

If an AEW game picked up where Def Jam left off as far as the mechanics go, I'd buy it in a heart beat.

I've always been more partial to early PS2 era wrestling games but that may be because I'm a dumbass zoomer, I'd welcome this though.

There was supposed to be an AKI style game called Saturday Knights. They even had the Bucks and some others letting them use their likeness. The Kickstarter failed and it was abandoned.

If he means an AKI-style engine with modern graphics, good idea. If he means he's going to try and get AEW to release a N64 game in 2019, very stupid idea.

"AKI style" has been the last bastion of hack fraud developers for years, Pro Wrestling X was the same shit. Nobody else can do it but AKI, which I suppose is why AEW are gunning to get the actual engine and not just hire some indie company to make a half-assed clone.

>the old aki engine

i guess they can try, but the last wrestling game AKI (or syn sophia as they're called now) made was a kinnikuman game that was released in japan only, and the last game they made was some fashion game that was last released in japan. you will not get the same games that was made back then

okay so what would be the challenges?
outside of Sony are there instances of commercial emulation of the PS1 other than Bleem! and that one for Mac a million years ago?
I know I've seen some companies do compilations with other hardware emulated on PC or other platforms but I'm not sure about the PS1. Was the PS1 Megaman on the Gamecube collection emulated or a port?
Would it just be possible to slap together a PS1 emulator, hack the shit out of an iso, and mail AKI a check?
I'd be really surprised if they had any of the old code left for it.

They also had the Def Jam games running on a tweaked version of the engine back then. I don't know how the staff turnover has been over the last 11 years but I do remember someone at Syn Sophia saying they'd love to make another wrestling game but had "received no offers" a few years back. They're still active and making good money off of the Style Savvy series so while they probably can't shoot for 2K-level graphics there's no reason to believe they'd have to make some low-poly-block-man game either.

Fuck graphics. I prefer MDickie's games over 2K. Just give me a modern, polished version of Virtual Pro Wrestling. The only thing that hasn't aged well from those games is how stiff and robotic movement is; there's this momentary pause for everything you do. Strikes, grapple-- your character pauses for half a second before doing the action. Remove that awkward pause and it'll be perfection.

Also bring back grabbing weapons from the crowd. I want to pull a giant inflatable beer can out and toss it across the ring.
