Lufisto is saying on her facebook that basically, she (re)injured her knee. At first, she thought it was okay but then it got a lot worse. In light of this, she says now at 39 years of age she doesn't have the stomach for the fight anymore and is going to wrap up her career. She'll do a few farewell matches this year and then bow out.

Lufisto has been on the mainstream wrestling radar since the mid 00s, although she started wrestling in 87, first breaking out in America when CZW brought her to be the "one girl allowed on the roster", predating Candice La Rae in PWG.

She did the hardcore/deathmatch thing for a while but moved away from it in time, moving to SHINE and started focusing on the growing women's' wrestling scenes emerging. During this time she had a memorable tag team with KANA (later Asuka in WWE).

In 2010 she suffered a stroke, which derailed her career for a time but she was determined to come back all the same.

By the mid-10s she had wanted to move forward with her career and make the next jump. She passionately pursued trying to get a spot with TNA/Impact around the time they were doing the Gut Check stuff. Despite getting a ton of votes to get on Gut check, TNA showed no interest in her at the time, probably because Al "Sable is the greatest women's' wrestler of all time" Snow was running the programme.

There were also moments when it seems like she might break out in Mexico, with AAA/Konnan flirting with giving her a regular spot as times.

Lufisto as a veteran was key in helping quite a number of younger female wrestlers and female promotions working with the likes SHINE, SHIMMER and many more in both America and Eastern Canada. Jordynne Grace, for example, would be considered one of her proteges (whom she teamed with as Team PAWG) as would Vanessa Kraven.

Despite her long career, which saw her consistently employed and pushed by American women's' promotions, she never got the major break she was looking for, which at times left her highly disappointed with her career.

Unfortunately for Lufisto, in hindsight, she's probably going to down as one of those women who had to hit against the glass ceiling in order for other women to break it. Had she come along even just 10 years later, she probably in today's current scene would be in high demand. However when she was still breaking into wrestling, it was ever much still the era of T&A and Divas, and skilled workers were surplus to demand.

There's no real high note to end on; she gave it all for wrestling (despite enormous health issues) but never got the big payback at the end, other than her very positive influence on the generation of women wrestlers coming up behind her and the debt many promotions will have to her input.

I'll be 100% honest, I never saw a Lufisto match or promo that I thought was particularly good, but she always seemed like a cool woman and was a perfectly fine mainstay in Shimmer's midcard for a long long time. Sucks that she never got the opportunity she wanted, I could've seen her doing okay in the MYC or something.

Gut check was a shitshow regardless of Al Snow.
When Brian Cage went there, he was told by Bruce Prichard he was perfect, just what they were looking for, etc...but they didn't sign him. Even though, when they initally gave him the chance to go on gut check, they not only told Cage they'd sign the guy, but also that going through the gut check gimmick would help him get signed faster. On top of that, someone else there told Cage to try to get signed by WWE. Source: a shoot interview Cage did with Ethan Page.

Now, back to Lufisto, it's a damn shame she never really got that break. Someone on squaredcircle shared this column that Lufisto wrote years ago (quoted on another tumblr page), and it's brutally honest. You can say a lot about Lufisto, but she was absolutely not a mark for herself.

I remember running some votebots for Lufisto during the Gut Check. They let her try, but it was a fix (what a fuckin' surprise in this business) and she got really depressed.

Well, except for that time she got SSB turned around at the border for blowing their story to the border patrol agent because she "thought they recognized her".

reminds of the story of how Kenny Omega would only go over the border when a specific guy was working it because they were friendly, sometimes meaning he'd have to travel a day early or some shit. Miracle the guy never got caught and got the Bailey Ban

Honestly it's the same for most of the women from that era. They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time and while Shimmer helped it was still a very niche product. By the time more areas of wrestling got wider exposure and the whole "stronk womyn" thing and whatnot in the social media era most of their best days were long behind them.

I think out of the early Shimmer crowd the biggest success is SDR, who's been retired and a trainer for years, and Cheerleader Melissa whose biggest success was either splitting time as a heel jobber version of herself and Kong's muslim sidekick in TNA or a middle of the pack heel on Lucha Underground.

They're kind of in the same boat as the "dark age" joshi whose careers have run in roughly the same timeframe. Outside of like Meiko or Hamada there's a lot of really good wrestlers whose careers are more or less forgotten because the bulk of them happened inbetween the interpomotional boom and the current post-2011 landscape.

They're still running two weekends every six months for tapings AFAIK but there's no real shine to it anymore considering you can see all the women they book wrestling each other everywhere else, the talent level has definitely dropped from the mid/late 2000s and they don't seem to bring in joshi anymore plus running on a DVD model in an age when only PWG can still do that while also being slow with releases.

Unless that's changed. They were supposed to start or join a streaming service but I don't know if that's happened.

At the Wild Zero x Beyond Wrestling show I ran into Kris Wolf in the hallway. I had an LU hoodie on with a Dick Justice Dunkin' Donuts parody shirt underneath. She actually came up and touched me and opened up my hoodie to read the shirt.

I'm diabetic and had low blood sugar so I was feeling a bit out of it and searching for food in the venue. Made the whole thing feel like some weird fever dream. But a joshi legend willingly put her hands on me and that's something I still don't quite believe happened.

>Next Tuesday's edition of Smackdown Live will feature Mandy Rose vs. Naomi vs. Carmella vs. Sonya Deville.

>The winner will go on to challenge WWE Smackdown Women's Champion Asuka on Sunday 4/7 at Wrestlemania 35.

>The announcement was made during a post-Smackdown video where Kayla Braxton interviewed Deville and Rose:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fC9mlnCx5Hc

>That would bring the official number of matches for Wrestlemania 35 up to twelve, with more to come.

I get legit sad when I think of how Asuka's title reign is being handled. Couldn't they have given her Nikki Cross? Or called up Shayna or Kairi? Hell rehash that Asuka vs. Trish match we were gonna get a few years ago. I'd even take Asuka vs. Nikki Bella. Just anyone that shows they give a shit.

Genuine question:
Was Megumi Kudo a "draw" for FMW (in the sense people would buy a ticket if she was on the card, but maybe pass it up if she wasn't) or was she just a pretty popular star of FMW?

I feel like she was positioned to be a draw, but whether it clicked all the way I'm not clued all the way in on.

So the Stardom NY event is done. She dropped the WOH title so hopefully she's done with that.
It's time for Mayu to stop carrying Stardom, fedoraman is keeping her down when she should be at the top of the food chain.
The question is: Does she go to WWE with Kairi and Io? (most likely scenario), or give a chance at the AEW which may or may not go well?
Takeover's women's tag team match was the first time I saw Io after she left Stardom and honestly might as well be the last one, Io and Kairi were carrying that match and I don't want Mayu to face the same fate.

What will happen now?

Was reading about that shithead yesterday on Twitter.
When people talk about obnoxious marks trying to get themselves over and distract from teh show, this guy is exactly the type of entitled manchild megahsit they are describing. The fact he was doing it in Japan where it is socially taboo to the nth degree to act like that at a wrestling just makes 1000x worse, the worst kind of culturally pig ignorant shithead.
His responses to being called out on Twitter have been so fucking annoying, dude needs a good beating. Hopefully he will be banned from the Japanese feds who's show he attended to shit up.
Him being a weird super orthodox Israelis nationalist is just the shit icing on the shit cake. But the arrogance out of him refusing to adhere to Japanese cultural customs for wrestling shows is fucking infuriating. Claiming to be this Japanese wrestling superfan but not having the first fucking clue on how to act at the shows there. Then acting all coy and innocent "omg why are you attacking me :("
Minoru Suzuki should beat the fuck out of him.
The worst kind of wrestling fan.

I've been really disappointed in how the whole situation has been handled with the Israeli guy.

If Stardom had a problem with him, they should have called security and asked him to stop. It would have ended the situation immediately.

Instead they chose to ignore it. That's fine too, but then their English twitter had to send out a PSA to all Western fans, like we are some sort of collective and as if the actions of one guy represents all of us. That's what got me upset about the whole thing. Why do I need to be addressed because someone else acted out individually?

And all of the witch-hunts, doxxing and various calls to action at the guy have made everyone complaining about it look even worse than the actual incident that triggered all of this in the first place.

As far as I'm concerned, if anyone should be apologizing at this point, it should be Stardom for engaging in blatant racism against Western fans.

That's not what was happening at all, dude, this just sounds like you're looking to be a victim or something. They wanted to take that chance to give other foreign fans a heads up, that's it.

Not at all, the guy has a reputation for being an embarrassing wrestling fan, people have a right to be aware so that they don't get caught up with his faggotry. Plus, he gave himself away by responding to the Stardom twitter account. No one would have guessed it was about him if he shut his mouth.

>As far as I'm concerned, if anyone should be apologizing at this point, it should be Stardom for engaging in blatant racism against Western fans.
How were they being racist at all?
Foreign fans need to get a clue before making fools of themselves. That goes beyond wrestling. When in Rome, do as Romans do, etc.

What this has to do with it?

And yes, he probably would have.

>That's not what was happening at all, dude, this just sounds like you're looking to be a victim or something. They wanted to take that chance to give other foreign fans a heads up, that's it.

I'm not really aware of any other instances of foreigners taking over Stardom shows with chants. If this was a recurring problem with multiple people, maybe I might be able to understand it, but it seems like this is only an issue with one person.

I also don't really recall Stardom clamping down on Japanese fans for doing catcalls and yelling wrestler's names throughout matches.

>Plus, he gave himself away by responding to the Stardom twitter account. No one would have guessed it was about him if he shut his mouth.

I don't really blame him for responding. They outed him on social media instead of just handling it in private.

>How were they being racist at all?

By addressing foreign fans as a whole for the behavior of one individual, instead of just addressing the individual.

You don't know anything about Japanese wrestling audience culture do you?

>I don't really blame him for responding. They outed him on social media instead of just handling it in private.
How did they "out" him exactly? They made a blanket statement, he outed himself by identifying himself as the reason they had to make that statement in the first place, and even had the fucking gall to say he was offended by their Tweet outlining what the rules of conduct at their shows are.
>By addressing foreign fans as a whole for the behavior of one individual, instead of just addressing the individual.
  1. This is not racism. Literally at all. Put that card down because it won't work here.
  2. You are really trying super hard to make yourself some kind of victim here, insistin that you felt persoally attacked by the blanket statement they issued;
>Why do I need to be addressed because someone else acted out individually?

Honestly I'd probably just read the mood and go with it. For lack of a better analogy I'd be a guest there so it's better to just follow the lead of the Japanese fans instead of trying to hijack things. If the fans are being loud and chanting then sure but if not then I'll keep my mouth shut.

That said the guy was in the wrong but Sonny really shouldn't have (and had no reason to) comment on it. I doubt he was directed by the office to do it or anything either.

I don't fault the guy for trying, but continuing to yell, even louder, after like 2 or 3 times, that's a clear social cue to shut up.

At best, the guy is enthusiastic in a very literal sense. At worst, he's a sociopath. I guess Stardom just doesn't know how to deal with this situation as it happens like maybe Super Dragon would.

She's used a Tiger Driver in other matches - could be her using it as a finish, instead of her Swanton/Sasuke Segway, which doesn't have a ton of impact.

Also: I honestly think the Tiger Driver was the planned finish, or the ref would've fucked up (or had a long two-count, like what Tommy does for nearfalls when she's reffing matches).

this is definitely going to set the rumour and speculation mill going with regards to alliances and such, but it's probably too early to say.

I think most people assumed that Riho would be going full time with AEW, like Shida, so this seems to confirm she won't be.

Raku's unironically one of my favorite parts of the show and I like her more than Miu. She does well as the face in peril during tag matches.

7.26, the date is on the videos. It's the only time she has done it. The match was billed as Sakura Hirota vs X. It was Yoshiko's birthday show so you had Nanae and Ozaki impersonating her in one match, Yoshiko-sama as X and also Saki Akai's first SEAdLINNNG appearance this year in the main event teaming against Yoshiko.

WWR's show on Sunday The Encore that was supposed to be on IWTV, is now canceled because the owner of the venue the show was supposed to take place at DTR Brewery had passed away - https://twitter.com/WWRProWrestling/status/1161016403899629569

Fortunately though Zero1 USA Northeast are honoring WWR tickets for the event for $5 - https://twitter.com/Zero1USA_NE/status/1161272364895756288 and they added a WWR showcase match. It's not much but at least they're trying to be respectful.

Last TJPW show was pretty neat as we saw Su Yung's first match. I think she's either had or has one coming up with Maki as well. But there's someone who was there I didn't know about, Gisele Shaw. I've seen her in Canadianist shows, and she always looks good, but seems to job every Impact tie-in show she's been on. She lost again, But with that size and shape, she'd be a good fit anywhere. One drawback though is her, um, vaguely feminine looks. It's not bad, just a different kind of ....mix.

Issue with her back that's kept her out since May. Isn't even the first time since I think she missed shows in December because of back issues. I'd say that means she's probably not cut out for wrestling but she's still seconding during matches and working the merch tables so who knows.

I think you mistook the wrestlers in the pic. This looks like Misao (the boots are the giveaway) getting ready to faceplant Miu. And it looks like where they usually shoot shows from, the Osaka show didn't have the center entrance.
I think so, anyway, I could be wrong.
More Misao is always welcome though.

Sorry about that, I didn't check your reference point. But I do enjoy that Misao shot (definitely saved!).
The camera work on the Osaka show was pretty lacking, most of them being from a distance, but at least it showed all the action. It might have been a fan cam for all I know.
However, being a Big Kaiju fan, I'm not disappointed with the outcome, I just can't see Mizuki holding the belt for long.
