pretty sure credit for this goes to Mr Toad
>this Mega has 52 Santo films on it, all are subbed, with Santo in the Wax Museum and Santo vs. the Vampire Women also being dual audio with English dub tracks.
>Of note, I am missing Santo contra laMDKnegra (Santo vs. Black Magic, 1972) and Blue Demon contra el poder satánico (Blue Demon vs. Satanic Power, 1964) in subbed form. I am also missing the English dubs that were produced for Santo contra los zombis (Santo vs. the Zombies, 1961) a.k.a. Invasion of the Zombies and Santo contra el doctor Muerte (Santo vs. Dr. Death, 1973) a.k.a. Santo Strikes Again, a.k.a. The Masked Man Strikes Again. If anyone has these or any leads I would greatly appreciate it.
>I also made another mega with a few other miscellaneous Lucha movies.
>In here is:
>Santo in 'The Vampire and the Sex' (1969) (Santo en el Vampiro y el sexo; English Subtitles), which is just a re-editing of Santo en el tesoro de Drácula (Santo in "The Treasure of Dracula", 1968) with porn scenes in it. On that note, I am also missing the other porn edited Santo film, The Lepers and Sex, a re-editing of Santo contra los jinetes del terror (Santo vs. the Terror Riders, 1970) .
>Starfighters (Luchadores de las Estrellas) (1992) - a modern movie featuring a fictional masked Luchadora. Many real luchadores in it, like Satanico, Blue Demon Jr, Volador, Misterioso.
> Captain America and Santo vs. Spider-Man (1973) (Three Giant Men-3 Dev Adam) - Unlicensed Turkish film where Santo (not played by the real one) and Captain America fight a villainous Spider-Man.
> Wrestlemaniac (El Mascarado Massacre) (2006) - An English slasher movie where Rey Misterio Sr. plays a masked wrestler who kills horny teenagers.

AAA is great every time I have time to tune in though I could understand if people got tired of the Mercenarios clusterfucks after a while.
Just saw the Demon vs. Wagner vs. Parka episode, what else has been happening since Triplemania other that Mercenarios running wild I guess?

Jeff Jarrett's still been showing up despite supposedly being with WWE, to the point that he was on the same show as Cody and the Bucks.
Remember how Triplemania set up for LA Park vs Dr Wagner jr? Yeah nah we have always been setting up for Wagner vs Blue Demon jr, you're clearly mistaken. So that's now where they're heading for Triplemania as a hair vs mask. spoilers from the last couple of twitch shows, not sure how much has been aired on youtube
Nino Hamburgesa and Big Mami haven't been doing so good as a couple with drama around him. OGTs dressed up like superheroes and looked very silly. Young Bucks took the tag belts from Lucha Bros with the crowd giving an impressive lack of fucks for a Mexican crowd. Killer Kross still kills a bunch of guys
Also the English commentary has been surprisingly not shit last two shows.

I wouldn't mind if the LU belts end up lurking in the shadows of pro wrestling independent of the actual promotion's existence or lack thereof, like the old NWA belts

>It appears Lucha Underground’s tough year is about to get even tougher. Only a month after El Rey Network and Baba-G Productions (LU’s network and production company respectively) settled a class action lawsuit with El Hijo del Fantasma, Ivelisse, Joey Ryan and Kobra Moon (Thunder Rosa), another trip to court seems in the works.

>Lucha Central has learned that LU performers Matanza Cueto (Ring of Honor star Jeff Cobb), Famous B and XO Lishus (All Elite Wrestling’s Sonny Kiss) have all sought legal representation in order to get their release from the promotion.

>The biggest shock of these names is Cobb, mostly because we’ve all assumed that Cobb received his release from Lucha Underground after season four, when his character was killed off in the Ultima Lucha finale. Despite that, and signing a one year deal with Ring of Honor this past fall, sources tell Lucha Central that LU higher ups have continued to insist he is under contract with them, and have even gone as far to try and block him from working Ring of Honor.

>There is no word on the situations regarding Famous B or Sonny Kiss, who is scheduled to debut for AEW at Double or Nothing as part of the Over Budget Battle Royal. Though it’s possible Lucha Underground may try to block him from working with AEW following the show, Kiss’ appearance at Double or Nothing doesn’t seem to be in jeopardy.

>Lucha Central can also confirm that, while he hasn’t officially sought legal representation at this time, Willie Mack will likely be joining these three in trying to get out of his LU contract as well. Speculation about Mack’s future has been rampant after he dropped the NWA National Championship to Colt Cabana this past Saturday at NWA’s Crockett Cup and posted a cryptic tweet about having to pick a side.

>Update: So Cal Uncensored has revealed on Twitter that Lucha Underground (through Dorian Roldan) has threatened to send a Cease and Desist to both Ring of Honor and the NWA due to them using Willie Mack at recent events, indicating further that Mack is likely to try and get his release alongside Cobb, Kiss and Famous B.

Fuckboi Dorian at it again. I'm an unapologetic LU fanboy but I recognized him as a cancer a long time ago.

Also how the fuck could you justify keeping Cobb from working as a completely different persona, his real fucking name, when you killed off his character? Unreal. These bastards have sabotaged such a fun show with such promise.

I want LU back more than anything in wrestling, but with the people in charge, maybe it's better if it stays dead.

I talk about this story all the time on here, but I went to the LU panel at NYCC in 2016.

He's a smug cunt of a man and it just comes through in person. I haven't watched it in years but so many things were talked about and the future seemed so bright and it just burnt out.

If anyone wants to see it, here it is:

Also, a reminder that Dorian's LLC was put in charge of licensing and all that happened on that front is the LU store some shirts on Walmart's and Hot Topic's sites.

No figures, games (even a shitty mobile game), not even goddamn Pop Vinyls. And the official DVD's are trash and there's no Blu-Rays and this show would've been perfect for the deluxe box set treatment. Throw in a few dark matches, behind the scenes vignettes, etc.

It's just so fucking disappointing. I wish another Tony Khan would come along and save this shit and kick Dorian to the curb.

>Jeff Cobb will be released from his Lucha Underground contract soon, according to Lucha Central.

>Cobb, Famous B and Sonny Kiss (XO Lishus) were all seeking legal representation earlier this week to secure their release from their LUG contracts. Willie Mack was also rumored to be seeking legal representation after Lucha Underground blocked him from taking bookings with the NWA and Ring of Honor. An agreement has been reached that will see Cobb get his release, but it hasn't been signed by all parties as of today, according to the report. Lucha Central added that once Cobb's release is official, the releases for Famous B and Kiss should follow.

>Cobb, who came to Lucha Underground as Matanza Cueto in 2015, reportedly believed that he was already free from his Lucha Underground contract. He was apparently written off TV at Ultima Lucha IV and then indicated he had been released after signing a contract with ROH. Lucha Central reported that certain Lucha Underground officials had tried to block Cobb from working for ROH, insisting he was still signed.

>Cobb currently holds the ROH World Television Title, the New Japan Pro Wrestling NEVER Openweight Title and the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Title. Cobb will likely be with ROH for the foreseeable future.

>Lucha Underground recently saw four other talents take extra measures to get out of their contracts - Joey Ryan, Ivelisse Velez, El Hijo del Fantasma and Kobra Moon (Thunder Rosa).

Speaking of Dorian Roldan, here's an interview he just did - https://superluchas.com/entrevista-con-dorian-roldan-lucha-libre-aaa-de-cara-al-futuro/. If you don't want to read that, here's a summary of it from cubsfan:

>SuperLuchas has a wide-reaching interview with Dorian Roldan, from the TV Azteca offices. That location, and recent SuperLuchas articles reporting much lower ratings that it seemed AAA & TV Azteca were reporting suggested it be an interview focusing on that subject. It turns out those numbers really never directly come up, though a lot of other things about AAA’s TV. This is one where you’re better reading it for yourself; I’m going to summarize what I can here. The most interesting part to me was the extended history of AAA’s TV deals. Let me try to condense it into a timeline:

  • 1992: Antonio Pena & Televisa start a lucha libre promotion. They initially want to call it OILL (Oraganizacion Internacional de Lucha Libre) but eventually decide to use “Asistencia, Asesoria, Administracion de Espectaculos”, a name Televisa had used for other projects. Televisa pays Pena for the TV rights but gets to sell sponsorships. Televisa also takes care of production.
  • 1995: Mexico economy craters and Televisa wants to get out of AAA. Pena creates Promociones Antonio Pena as a separate entity and it buys full control of AAA. Somewhere in here, Televisa stops paying Pena rights for the TV but gives Pena the power to sell sponsorship rights (so he’s the one making the money off the Corona logo at this point.)
  • 2000-ish: Televisa tells AAA that they’re no longer paying for production and it is up to AAA to pay for it. AAA rents a production unit from MVS.
  • 2002: AAA decides to stop renting production and buy their own in-house production equipment. Televisa’s only role at this point is to air the show, and they dictate how long that show will be. (CMLL also had to pay for production by this point.)
  • 2008: WWE comes to Televisa and TV Azteca. Things go really well for a while.
  • 2013: things are going less well for WWE & Televisa. The ratings have tanked and Televisa decides to get rid of wrestling from their broadcast channels. All wrestling, which means AAA & CMLL need to go too, though they could continue on the TDN cable station. This decision is made around September of the year. Dorian Roldan meets with Televisa executives, tells them he’s got sponsorships thru the end of the year dependent on AAA being on broadcast TV and asks for a reprieve until December to figure something out.
  • 2013-2016: Televisa allows AAA to buy TV time to keep their slot. Roldan says AAA was making the most money at this point by selling sponsorships for broadcast TV, so it made sense to do what they had to keep that air time. Roldan says CMLL made at least one attempt to get back on Televisa, only to find out they would be required to pay for TV time as well and pass.
  • 2017: AAA wants to get on Univision (US), but Roldan is not confident AAA looked good enough to get picked up because their production unit is outdated. AAA decides to not only to pay Televisa for TV time but also pay them to produce the AAA show. AAA’s deal with Univision does not get done and they see no improvement in Mexico.
  • 2018: AAA has done good numbers with their TripleMania specials for two years. This seems like a good thing. Televisa apparently is not impressed. They raise the rate they’re charging AAA for TV time. Roldan talks to TV Azteca, who with they share some prominent sponsors and decides to make the move.
  • 2019: AAA debuts on TV Azteca. TV Azteca is paying AAA a rights fee. Televisa reacts and brings back CMLL (and is believed to be paying them a rights fee.)

>There’s a lot of other big pictures thoughts in here. Dorian Roldan feels WWE has made Mexico and Latin America a low priority and doesn’t see them as a big threat domestically to AAA. He welcomes the idea of WWE trying a NXT Mexico but does not think they’d do well, that there’s not a fan base big enough to support them without WWE being on strong broadcast TV and that an NXT Mexico show wouldn’t get that TV deal either. Roldan sees the wrestling fans of Mexico split three ways:

  • 5% are the hardcores who follow everything super closely, know the AEW guys and NJPW.
  • 45% know the difference between AAA & CMLL but aren’t more knowledgable than that.
  • 50% have so little knowledge that go to an Arena Mexico show thinking they’re seeing AAA

>Dorian Roldan’s big goal still is the United States, feeling there’s just so much money to be made there (and holding up the Mexican National Team playing in the US as proof.) He also feels like, by going after the Hispanic market, he won’t be as directly competing with WWE as AEW might be. The Madison Square Garden show will determine how strong they go in that path forward. AAA was not expecting to sell out like AEW show, believing the Hispanic market isn’t going to buy tickets that far in advance, but feels like they’ve done well given how little noise they’ve made so far. AAA plans on making a lot more noise.

>The thing that’s going to get the most noise from this interview is Dorian Roldan talking about the meetings he’s had with various other heads of companies. Roldan mentions speaking with Joe Koff (Ring of Honor), Ed Norholm (Impact Wrestling) and Billy Corgan (National Wrestling Alliance) over WrestleMania weekend. Roldan pushes the idea that even though they’re competitors, they should be building bridges to work together. “You need a talent, I have another talent signed with Lucha Underground, what are we fighting for?” In Roldan’s telling of it, he got Willie Mack to appear for the NWA and the Lucha Brothers to appear for AEW. That’s a completely opposite version of the Mack/NWA story from what’s been told by Mack and other people involved, where AAA/LU/Roldan was threatening legal action if the NWA (& ROH) continued to use Willie Mack. I tend to believe Mack’s side of this story and wonder what pieces are missing from Roldan’s side.

>There’s a lot more here – you can read yourself about Roldan’s thoughts about an AAA/CMLL show, about wrestling in Monterrey (“I do not know a place in the world where promoters fright mone – there they strive to see who loses the most money”) and about egos in general.

Dorian Roldan is full of BS. If it wasn't for the fact that several wrestlers and producers of LU stated that what was holding up releases was him, he wouldn't be trying to cover his ass with blatant lies.

>WrestlingInc posted an interview with Dorian Roldan, mostly about the AAA/MSG show, which hasn’t been talked about since the tickets went on sale three weeks ago. The article transcribes most of it, the interview on the podcast itself starts at 59:00. For our purposes, the big news is the show is not planned to stream on Twitch. Roldan says it wasn’t part of the package of shows for Twitch. It doesn’t sound as though Twitch won’t take it, but that they think they have a better ability to put in on TV (in Mexico & the US) if it’s not on Twitch.

>Dorian is open to working with talent from other promotions for talent on their show but none are specifically confirmed at being part of this card at this point. They’re also open to working with “people who used to be in AAA before and are really important to the Mexican fans.” Johnny Mundo technically fits that category, but it also sure sounds like the LA Park signal. Roldan says the card will have something for every type of fan and they’ve partnered with radio stations to promote those shows. Roldan also attended the NJPW/ROH show at MSG with other AAA people to get an idea of the production required.

>AAA is still set at running other shows (and slow ticket sales for MSG don’t come up at all here.) A second show is planned to be announced soon. That’s probably the Los Angeles one that was previously reported. AAA is hoping to run 10 shows in the US next summer, which is hard to believe. Roldan gives credit to the company they’re with on this, Oak View Group, for setting up deals with venus and sponsors and even TV.

Sucks it's not gong to be on Twitch, would have been cool if it were.

makes sense that its not on Twitch, AAA at MSG, like Triplemania, is PPV worthy.

It was noted at the press conference back in April when they announced the show that Ed Nordholm was there. I wonder if Impact/Anthem would help with producing it as a PPV in exchange for getting talent on the show/getting it co-streamed on Impact Plus or something.

TripleMania card is out
Little Fiji - Fri, 05 Jul 2019 10:23:54 EST jCH8J3Fu No.6261915 Reply
>Like every other AAA TV taping with a listed start time of 8 pm, it will stream live in English & Spanish on Twitch. It will also air live on Space (as it did last year) and at least part of it will air live on TV Azteca.

>As I wrote yesterday, AAA’s choice for TripleMania was either to tell a lot of people they’re not going to have a spot or to make a lot of nonsensical multiman person matches to squeeze everyone in. AAA – and most every other wrestling promotion on the planet – is going to choose the “more people” option. AAA’s also a promotion that has decided the best way to build up the biggest show of the year is at press conferences and those press conferences operate with a separate series of storylines. What happens on AAA TV matters, it just doesn’t matter all that much for TripleMania. It’s been this way for years now and it’s been successful enough that it won’t be changing any time soon.

>Whenever people with AAA said things like “Aerostar vs Monster Clown might happen at TripleMania!”, they were lying, even if they didn’t realize they were doing it at that time. This kind of lineup is what TripleMania is and will be for the foreseeable future. This can be an immensely frustrating part of following AAA but is as part of it as the heel referee spots. For the people who just come in to AAA once a year, they want a strange Mexican variety wrestling show and they are always getting that show.

>That’s where my expectations were coming into this card: this would be using AAA talent but in ways that may not match up with anything. I think it’s a good card all considered. I like the trios match at Fyter Fest and definitely, don’t have a problem seeing it again in front of a Mexican audience. The fifth match is a freak show match that actually might be good; I trust Taurus, Texano and what sure sounded like Killer Kross to be able to go along with whatever the tecnicos want to do. It’s going to be weird but it seems like it should work and I have more belief in the Cain Velazquez match working than I did initially.

>The women’s match getting a TLC stipulation is completely random. AAA always has a gimmick attached to a match for no particular reason and this is that. It is also a reminder that we shouldn’t have cared all that much about Keyra winning the title at Verano de Escandalo. It is nice for her to get to be champion but she’s not going to anything meaningful with it before this match, and the TripleMania is always going to end up in a multi-women match where who comes in with the belt doesn’t have much of an advantage. The 3-way trios match would be a better quality match with just two teams in and the mixed tag story would be better with just the important people, but adding people onto matches is what TripleMania is. At some point, everyone but Mami, Maravilla, and Hamburguesa will be out on the floor and they’ll have their moment anyway.

>Rey Escorpion, Killer Kross, and Daga are the three names that jumped out to me as people missing from this show. Daga’s got a title match with Drago on Saturday that I was sure he was winning; now I’m not so sure he’s really in AAA’s plans. Rey Escorpion’s heroic scheme to work his way into an apuesta feud with Psycho Clown seems to be delayed. Kross has been famously been left off the TripleMania card the last two years and my strong presumption is he came back to AAA again under the impression he would definitely get something this year. I can’t believe they’d do it again. All three guys could theoretically be the mystery man teaming with Texano and Taurus but that would still mean two of them are in Copa TripleMania or left off entirely. Alberto el Patron might also be the mystery man if not for his recent AAA issues. There’s no indication of when AAA might reveal that name; you’d think it would happen at an upcoming TV event but again this show is disconnected from TV.

>I didn’t want to see Pagano/Chessman and I didn’t want to see Faby/Tirantes and I don’t have to see again. The lack of Pagano/extreme match on the show is probably the most surprising match decision, as AAA has steadfastly used those on big shows a way to make themselves distinct from WWE & CMLL. Perhaps some elements from that will come up in the Copa TripleMania.

>Fenix will officially go one full AAA calendar year without defending the AAA megachampionship in AAA. (He did defend it in GALLI, I was there.) It feels like there should be a Mega title defense on this show, but it also doesn’t matter. The title is devoid of meaning and has been even since before Fenix had it. A single TripleMania title match isn’t going to fix that, because it didn’t fix it last year. It makes more sense to throw Fenix in the best match you can get a finish out of. Omega/Fenix might have been more interesting but I don’t think AAA or AEW can get to a good finish out of that right now. A rematch of the trios match will be good, though makes me wonder what exactly was booked for this spot before Verano de Escandalo.

>AAA started this year with a press conference announcing the Demon/Wagner match, and saying TripleMania would have eight matches. Those would be six big main events, a Copa Triplemania, and Llave a la Gloria match. A lot can happen between January and July. I was still waiting for them to mention the Llave a la Gloria match as an aside when the press conference ended; that’s how they handled it last year.
Little Fiji - Fri, 05 Jul 2019 10:24:50 EST jCH8J3Fu No.6261916 Reply
>Anyone who subscribes to Twitch starting July 4th gets TripleMania included. If you can afford to throw AAA $5 a month, I think you’re going to want to watch that show without commercial interruptions. If you’re an American with holiday plans tonight, you could watch this show on-demand later, get the next two AAA shows and TripleMania for one price.

>think the best card change idea I saw was Dylan from Lucha Talk suggesting just swapping Laredo Kid and Vikingo, which give the trios match AEW wanted to do but couldn’t and make it not a straight rematch of a few weeks ago. It’d be a waste for Laredo Kid to be dropped into a match about the exoticos but it is also a waste to have the six other guys in there. I do wonder if AAA will end up airing the Fyter Fest match, as they did the Double or Nothing this past week.

>I’m still wondering on the mystery guy. If it was meant to be Daga or Rey Escorpion, there would be no mystery about it. I’d say the same thing about Kross, though I could see AAA believing they needed to do (and could do) some big angle to heat him up and move him on from Puma King first. The easiest answer is probably simply “AAA hasn’t decided yet” and thinking about this is a bad use of time. I am all about bad uses of time and my mind has drifted to “you know, Jack Swagger/Jake Strong has a connection here and has MMA experience, that’d be something AAA would totally do” and “San Luis Potosi is Alberto’s hometown and even though he’s not on good terms with AAA that can change quick.” Please send help.

>Dorian Roldan noted that August 3rd was Joaquin Roldan’s birthday and says that is why they picked the date this year.

>Psycho Clown explained that he originally wanted to fight Cain Velazquez, then got to know him and decided he’s a great person. Psycho says Velazquez has come to Mexico City to train and he’s going to San Jose to train and it seems like a good idea to be a team.

>People who have not blocked last year’s TripleMania out of their mind may remember Vampiro and Konnan set up a match where the loser had to leave AAA. That match isn’t happening at TripleMania. It doesn’t need to. Vampiro didn’t lose a match but remains out of AAA. Either it happened on good terms or there’s still a connection there because Vampiro hasn’t said a single bad word about AAA, but he’s off doing his own thing. There’s really not been a mention of Konnan wrestling again any time soon, though I suspect that may change when he returns to MLW this weekend. Konnan said he’d like to do a retirement tour next year while admitting he’s been saying this for the last two years.

July 19 Viernes Espectacular De Arena Mexico is going to be FUCKING LIT

>Stop 1 on the Jushin Thunder Lyger Mexico retirement tour is a trios match on 07/18, teaming with Mistico and Valiente against Caristico, Titan and Bandido.

>CMLL has announced that Jushin Liger’s final opponents for the promotion on 7/19 will be Negro Casas, Ultimo Guerrero and Caristico in a fatal four-way match. Only two men are allowed in the ring at once and competitors must tag in and out to enter and exit.

>On today’s CMLL Informa program, which is the promotion’s weekly news talk show which airs every Wednesday around 4pm EST, the promotion announced that LA Park will be returning to the July 19th show which is a farewell show featuring the final CMLL appearance of the legendary Jushin Thunder Liger. Park won’t be coming alone, however, as he will be joined by his sons, El Hijo de LA Park, and LA Park Jr., to take on Bestia del Ring, Mistico and his longtime rival, RUSH, which will no doubt continue the bitter feud between these two men.

following up here's a copypasta
>JCR interviewed Sofia Alonso before CMLL Informa.
>JCR, like Atlantis, mentioned that all the CMLL luchadores when they went to the ring to do the moment of applause thought they were doing it again for Perro Aguayo. They did not know Paco Alonso had passed away.
>Sofia Alonso said on Friday night (July 5th), her father (Paco Alonso) fainted. Her mom called an ambulance. He suffered cardiac respiratory arrest while being taken to the hospital. He passed away early Saturday.
>Sofia & her mom made the decision that since her dad lived a private life, that they would handle the news of his passing & other proceedings in private only telling family & close friends.
>They kept the news quiet of Paco Alonso's passing for 24 hours before letting everyone know during the Sunday Arena Mexico show.
>Sofia Alonso announces that she will now be the CMLL Director and be in charge of the promotion. She said this was not how she wanted to take over, worst possible way and she gained this position by losing someone she truly loved, her father.
>JCR asked Sofia Alonso now that she is in charge what are the plans for CMLL moving forward. She wants to consolidate and have more solidarity throughout all the departments within CMLL. She wants to keep all the good aspects of CMLL.
>Sofia said that her father, Paco Alonso, left them all a great responsibility and they all must do their best to uphold that.
>Sofia Alonso said her plan isn't to start some "new era" or change radically. She wants to conserve what her father did and the good things that are done in CMLL. Little by little they will develop in areas where there might be opportunities down the road. #CMLL

>Sofia Alonso wants to continue to conserve the concept of lucha libre and the tradition. She said CMLL is a promotion built around families, not just the Lutteroths.

>Sofia Alonso also said that being that she is from a different generation to her father, there will likely be some changes because she's likely to see opportunities that maybe her father didn't see. She doesn't expect it to be drastic changes.

>Sofia Alonso also said she grew up in lucha libre and would watch it every weekend. She said she doesn't have to be at lucha shows all the time, but she is because she adores lucha libre.

>Sofia Alonso said that she is very passionate about her job and doesn't deny that she is there because she is part of the Lutteroth family. She made the decision to take charge of the promotion, "take the bull by the horns". She could easily just stay home & do nothing.

>JCR asked Sofia Alonso what is something her father left her and she said he taught her to respect those who work for CMLL.

>Sofia Alonso's message to CMLL's roster is that her door will always be open to them. They are her top priority and they are the reason that "everyone gets to eat" in CMLL.

>Sofia Alonso said that Fray Tormenta will be the priest for the public mass on Friday.

>Sofia Alonso closes her interview letting everyone in #CMLL and fans know that this CMLL will evolve and they are going up. Down is not an option. She lost a lot already and failure is not an option.

>UPDATE: JCR said that CMLL luchadores were told backstage before they went to the ring for the ceremony about Paco Alonso passing away.

I mean pretty much all of it was the typical corporate stuff. Watching the interview I got the impression that she was just trying to appeal to everybody in the company both old (mostly old) and young. Nothing wrong with that really it's what you'd expect so we'll see if anything changes at all in the future.

It's really going to be interesting if she *does* decide to change anything that affects the old/useless people both in the ring and backstage (which I honestly doubt). Being such a young woman in charge of a promotion like CMLL really can't be that easy when it comes to all the politics there but she might be alright since she's part of the family after all so who knows.

Interesting times for sure.

that's Ophidian, he's been branching outside of Chikara a lot, been working a lot more GCW shows. Demand Lucha has brought a few Chikara people up to Toronto for their shows.

He's facing an Amazing Red trainee who I saw have a good match with Kikutaro at HOG's WM weekend show (the one with Muta, Penta, Tajiri vs LAX & Low Ki)

Already been posted in the non-WWE major promotions general but I think ROH doing a Global Wars tour with CMLL this year is a good idea - https://www.rohwrestling.com/news/roh-and-cmll-join-forces-global-wars-espectacular

With Sofia Alonso wanting to forge closer ties with ROH, hopefully we'll see the same sort of effect with CMLL becoming more popular in the US as NJPW had 5 years ago after their first tour with ROH.

>Not having anything to do with dead or not but Tubi has really grown into a rather potentially significant “ancillary revenue” stream for many content owners. It’s not all “dead”’content. So, while it may be dead - the Tubi deal doesn’t signal it. Does signal no Netflix renewal.

the AAA New York & Los Angeles don’t look like they’re happening
>Let’s go over what we know:

>AAA sold few tickets to the New York & Los Angeles shows, so few that they turned off the ability to see a seat map so no fan could see a visual representation of unsold tickets in one space. (Though the ticket selection screen still shows no many more tickets have moved.)
>one source told me the MSG show had sold much less than 1,000 tickets as of mid-July.
>No matches have been announced for either show.
>AAA had been posting canned Tweets regularly (and probably automatically) to hype these shows. Those have vanished.
>AAA hasn’t tweeted the word “MSG” since June 26th.
>AAA hasn’t used the #LUCHALIBREAAAenNY tag since June 18th
>AAA hasn’t used the #LUCHALIBREAAAenLA tag since June 29th
>AAA has continued to push their Mexico shows as normal; they’re not giving on social media ticket sales, just these shows.
>Neither the Spanish nor the English announce crew mentioned the AAA US shows on TripleMania commentary when it would normally be a focal point.
>This week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletters says the announcers were specifically told not to bring up the US shows.
>Fite.TV were announced as carrying these shows on PPV. They currently list no show airing on September 15th.
>An AAA show was announced for September 16th outside Mexico City, the day after the scheduled show in New York. It’s possible for everyone to make it back from New York to be on this show, but it would be challenging.
>I’ve been waving “AAA’s shows look concerning” red flags. AAA’s usually helpful in telling me when I’m way off base. No one’s gotten back to me to say I’m wrong.

>None of this is definite proof the shows are canceled. The tickets for New York and Los Angeles remain on-sale as of late Thursday and there were still ads playing for it in the Forum last night. The evidence showing they’re not running theses is getting overwhelming though. We’re waiting for someone on the AAA show to be announced as working somewhere else on September 15 or for AAA to say something. That may still take a while. The social media mentions being dropped in June suggest someone knew to stop pushing it a while ago and yet nothing’s been said. You shouldn’t wait for them to finally change say it to make other plans.

>I got a pretty decent ticket: Sec 117, Row 14, Seat 11 in New York City. I don’t think I’m using it. I’m definitely sure I’m not buying a plane ticket and a hotel room for a show that doesn’t seem to exist. More importantly, I don’t want you – a person with an interest enough in lucha libre to be reading this – to have bought tickets to these shows to spend more money on them that you’ll have trouble getting back. I have no doubt the ticket money will be coming back. AAA’s been trustworthy on that in the past. I can’t vouch for airlines or hotel companies or whatever else. I’m sure you can find other things to do in New York if you’ve got no alternative, but I’d like you to have the option to do something else with your time and money.

>(LA people: these shows are being fronted by the same investors. Tickets didn’t move much better for LA. If the NY show goes down, they’re not going to run a standalone show in Los Angeles a month later.)

>There’s a lot more to say about why these shows didn’t work. I’d like to wait until they get officially canceled to talk about it, but I suspect all the responses to this will be people diagnosing the problem. I think the overarching problem is AAA beliving in taking giant swings and nothing else, and they’re not getting slow pitch machines in the US. There are smaller steps they need to take first – and everyone’s going to list them now – but they seem unwilling to take that approach. It’s a shame because TripleMania seemed to prove there would be a market for a well promoted and positioned AAA show in the US. These plans were not it, but that doesn’t mean AAA should give up. Just don’t start with the level 99 boss of MSG, start a little bit smaller and smarter.

>There's been some concern that the AAA event at Madison Square Garden next month may be off, but PWInsider.com is told by MSG sources that AAA reps, including Dorian Roldán, were at the Garden two weeks ago working on logistics with arena management. >CMLL officially announced the CMLL Gran Prix would take place on August 30th. The announcement took place on CMLL Informa. This is an annual Mexico versus the Rest of the World 8 v 8 cibernetico which has had strong turnouts in recent years. The Rest of the World team usually includes Ring of Honor wrestlers, August 30th is an open weekend for ROH, so it’s looked like this date for a while.

>The CMLL team was announced on the show: Negro Casas, Diamante Azul, Dragon Lee, Barbaro Cavernario, Volador Jr., Forastero, Rush, Soberano Jr.

>Forastero sticks out as a person who would not be expected in this match – he’s the third guy in his own trio – and so there might be something more to him and Volador. Ultimo Guerrero is usually in the matches and is not, so he may be busy doing something with Cibernetico. This is a good group of people and also Diamante Azul.

>The Rest of the World Team will be announced next week. Count on Okumura and Dark Magic for two spots. Kawato too, if he’s not injured. (CMLL will probably have to address his disappearing act in some way.) Kenny King was said to be coming in to CMLL in August and August 30th still counts as August. NJPW has a show on August 31st, so most of their big names are going to be busy.

>CMLL hasn’t announced the date of the Aniversario show. 09/13, the day most people seem to think is the date, is only 29 days away. CMLL waiting until very late to announce a match is no longer strange, but typically at least the date is out there four weeks prior. It’s already strange for it not to be out – maybe it’ll be just mentioned in commentary tomorrow, but maybe also something else is going on. If that date got pushed back, there’s no need for it to be announced yet.

He was wrestling Saturday night in Ciudad Guzman and caught Carta Brava Jr. on a simple crossbody. We had written yesterday that his feet were out of position but those at AAA have said his feet were fine but that it was a beer soaked ring that was the culprit. He will be in a walking boot for three weeks and then need three more weeks of rehab. Dave the Clown was also injured on that same show due to the slippery ring.

Anarco = compañerx
LI = compañere
So please don't mix latin american anarchism with this new capitalist PR fad of social consciousness as a way to sell people more shit like disney movies.

cubsfan on that thing
>Planeta Wrestling wrestling has a story that the CMLL/WWE meeting which happened earlier this year were regarding WWE wanting to purchase CMLL’s video library as additional content for their premium tier. PW Insider had mentioned earlier this week that WWE was investigating getting lucha libre content for their network. I got a decent amount of “don’t trust Planeta Wrestling, they may just be speculating” feedback after posting this. Even Planeta’s report says it was a discussion and they don’t know if went any farther than that. I’m getting increasingly leery of posting any WWE related news on Twitter; anything “these two sides had a talk about [X]” instantly gets read and repeated as “it’s definitely happening, it’s the biggest version of the deal possible, and it’s all going down tomorrow” for reasons I don’t have a grasp on. (That’s why there was no WWE in the headline of this post.) You should take this story with a big grain of salt, as a thought experiment about what it would WWE trying to buy the CMLL library would mean rather than something that has any certain chance of happening.
>A small shared licensing makes sense for both sides. Ring of Honor & Impact have given permission in the past to WWE for bits of their footage to be used in documentaries. There doesn’t seem like much harm in CMLL letting WWE do the same as long as they’re fairly compensated. A large scale library sell-off would seem bad for CMLL fans; some surprising stuff may squeeze thru, but it’s hard to see WWE having interest in formatting and sharing the vast majority of it. CMLL’s not doing anything with their old footage, but there at least exists a possibility they might do something with it someday. If WWE ever got all of it, most of it would never be seen again. The flip side is CMLL really is doing nothing with that old footage, doesn’t see it as something to make money out of, and seems to be even more profit conscious in this post-Paco era. You normally take the money if someone offers to take give it to you for something you have no interest in, and it’s never seemed like CMLL has that much interest in that old footage. The blue sky perfect world result is CMLL gains some interest once they realize being a revenue source for WWE means it could be one of them as well. The mitigating reality to all of this is no one seems sure what footage CMLL has and how far back it goes; it is possible all footage as recent as the mid-00s is actually Televisa property; that sort of fact-finding is probably what the WWE/CMLL conversation was actually about.

Road to hell is paved with good intentions and such, and I have no doubt most people who use it think they're doing you a favor by saying it. "Latin" is already non-gendered, the only reason not to use it is to use the Hispanic terms over the English terms, but since the Spanish terms ARE gendered (and therefor not good enough for woke, English-speaking people), they've fixed your inferior language by putting an English variable letter in there that makes it longer and more unwieldly than the already existing word that means the same thing.

The difference between a white person saying "the Latin community" and "the Latinx community" is like putting "sapiosexual" on your dating profile, in that it means jack shit other than "LOOK AT ME, I'M 'WITH IT', I'M NOT LIKE THOSE OTHER WHITES", instead of, you know, setting yourself apart with words and actions.

>My impression is Azteca let Laredo Kid know he was on the show just a few days ago and needed him right away. (He's replacing someone, I think.) Laredo was in BOLA, BLP's tournament, wrestling Santo in Denver and probably tomorrow's AAA show in NY. He's off all of that now.

Any especially choice CMLL matches from the past year that I gotta see for their own sake? Last thing I saw was the '18 Gran Prix cibernetico that Elgin won. I know Terrible won the Universal Tournament and got his head shaved at Leyendas and have no great interest in either (at least on-paper; cuss me out if they were lit).

Oh and any news? More in the kayfabe sense, i.e. any big Park angle or heat to the Mistco fire or shocking tecnico/rudo turns (I'm looking at you Titan you slaaaag). I'm aware Paco is kill & apparently WWE is exploiting it, intend to read into that specifically at some point.

there's a possibility there'll be highlights on CMLL's channel the same night, sometimes they package those into the interview segments
and of course there's a non-zero chance CMLL fucks it up and forgets to private their live youtube feed because they usually just get the shows on youtube that way then makes them public later rather than record and upload separate. I'm pretty sure that's happened for a random event once or twice

>CMLL has not officially fired Bestia del Ring, but he was only being booked as a favor to his family. He declared he would be going independent (and be booked by indy promoters as a favor to Rush going forward.)

>Mistico wishes his father and brother well, sort of indicates he does not plan on leaving CMLL at this point.

>It would be hard for Rush to go on AAA TV while still being with ROH, though I guess not impossible. It is no problem for him to work independent dates with AAA talent and that may have already been agreed upon.

>FWIW, CMLL owns the Mexico trademarks to: Rush, La Bestia del Ring, Dragon Lee, Mistico
>CMLL owns a trademark for "Rush El Toro Blanco" as well as "Rush" and strangely "Blood Rush"

"What is going to happens with Los Ingornables?"
>Done in CMLL. (Poor Terrible.) Rush, Bestia and La Mascara will probably form a knockoff group ASAP.

>KAOZ has already announced Rush coming in as El Toro Blanco. The Crash too.

The Mistico element might still be up in the air right?
If he knew that Rush (and Bestia with him) were planning on leaving there is no reason he would feel the need to leave, but the added element of Dragon Lee being fired just because of Rush's actions even if Lee did take actions CMLL didn't like in the past that weighs much more against Mistico's loyalty for the position CMLL put him in.

Sadly I just don't think Mistico has the wide appeal of the other two despite being just as good, especially as he wouldn't be able to use the Mistico name.

>mfw this whole thing

>ROH hasn't been happy with CMLL because CMLL has trouble with streaming and it's caused problems for ROH. ROH management feels they're outdated technologically.

>ROH feels that Rush is more important to ROH than their working agreement with CMLL is.

>They'd be willing to lose their relationship with CMLL if Rush takes off for them. "We don't get to use Stuka Jr. anymore, but I'm sorry, we're moving on."

>For New Japan, they'd try to talk them into keeping it at least January (for Fantasticamania, since it's still a good tour money wise). They aren't going to stop using Dragon Lee regardless.

>But keeping Dragon Lee might be more important to them than CMLL. CMLL hasn't done a lot for New Japan training-wise for a while either so losing that relationship doesn't hurt them much.

>New Japan's quote "not going to give a shit" what CMLL wants, because CMLL has no leverage. If CMLL says they won't do Fantasticamania, well that hurts CMLL hugely. It's considered to be a massive perk for CMLL talent because it's where they actually make the most of their good money in the year. They sell heaps of merchandise, etc when they do it. Some talent have stayed with CMLL for years turning down big offers elsewhere just so they can keep doing Fantasticamania tours.

>So losing Fantasticamania would be a big blow for CMLL, not New Japan. New Japan likes that tour but they don't need it at all like CMLL does. New Japan would be willing to lose the CMLL deal if they had to, in order to keep booking Dragon Lee.

>It's a red flag already that New Japan didn't send either Umino or Narita to CMLL. Because when things are good they're always making sure they have a few young lions at CMLL. New Japan is obviously not happy with CMLL right now.

>CMLL and Lutteroth are going to see Rush quitting the same way Paco Alonzo, the original owner, would've seen it. An American company came along, negotiated a talent exchange deal, and then used it to sign top talent who would then leave Mexico. Paco Alonzo hated doing business with Americans because this happened all the time in Mexico.

>The middle-man for New Japan, CMLL, and ROH is Okumura. He has to go to an emergency meeting over all this soon and life is going to be pretty hard for him because of all this. He sold CMLL on things being great with ROH after just negotiating the deal with Delirious, and now Rush has already quit CMLL.

>Okumura is screwed. If the New Japan or ROH deal goes away, then he's basically finished with CMLL.

>Rush is a good friend with Diamante Azul, Vangelis, and some others who are affiliated with his family. Many of them may leave if Rush can get them booked in the US regularly.

>Strong possibility that ROH didn't even know Rush and Bestia del Ring were planning to quit to focus on wrestling for ROH.

>CMLL is basically screwed because they have no leverage over ROH or New Japan. ROH has gotten what they wanted out of this deal since they have Rush on a contract. If CMLL respond by pulling all their talent from ROH over this, many of the CMLL talent could quit over it because they make very good money in ROH.

>CMLL will be fine financially and aren't going anywhere any time soon since they're self-sufficient and profitable, but they're in a very tough situation now because there aren't as many guys left in CMLL that are top tier talents and they aren't looking to bring in anybody at that level right now. And they've just lost Rush, Dragon Lee, and potentially more.

>The fallout from this could be huge. Rush quitting could possibly be the catalyst for the end of the ROH-CMLL deal, and maybe even the NJPW-CMLL deal.

>Rush plans to release a video soon explaining why he quit in detail. The original plan was to release it monday but the fallout from all this could have changed the schedule. He's most likely going to say he left CMLL because they weren't giving him interesting matches and because he wanted to do the match with LA Park. Don't fall for the reasoning he's going to give though because his video is mainly going to be something to get promoters to run out and book him.

>CMLL's mistrust for companies outside Mexico is much bigger as a result of this. Possible that they might pull talent from the British J Cup and elsewhere.

>People are very angry behind the scenes and want change.

>Sofia Alonso has basically been sidelined since Chavo Lutteroth came back in the picture. Unlike her, he's not a lucha fan and more a finance guy. He's drastically cut everyone's pay (except for old legends) and that, along with stale opponents, has led to massive unhappiness within the CMLL lockerroom.

pray for ya jap Okumura and i'm glad that Sofia is not to blame... ish

>the most self-sufficient promotion in all of wrestling
this is exactly why. they have their sponsors and tourist money so most of the talent (mostly the good ones sadly) are seen as expendable. I'm sure there are people who legit care just like anywhere else but sadly the people in power don't. Shit's gonna be rough from now on and if cmll stops working with NJPW and ROH then there's literally no reason to stay there if you're a decent wrestler.

Lucha Capital is back tonight live on facebook!
It's a AAA side story from a bbq joint, theoretically a tournament with structure and rules but iirc it got thrown out about two weeks in last time because of travel issues, injuries, and good old lolAAA
it's expected to stream live through AAA's facebook, which I think precludes a feed on the tubes unless somebody takes the facebook feed and bounces it to a different live thing. cubsfan didn't do that last year and I don't know of anybody doing it this year either
assuming it works like last year I'll probably get replays up on mog_dos pretty regularly, and I'll try to post the link up here as it's live

last year was a fun enough endeavor, more subdued than normal AAA and more singles matches, the Pincho Gringo BBQ Zone is an underrated arena

cubsfan's take on it from yesterday
>+Lucha’s podcast went over the details of the Lucha Capital tournament last night. AAA posted some of these same details in a press release. Vampiro also talked about the show on Facebook, though I haven’t listened to it yet. There are 12 trios in the tournament:
> Poder del Norte
> Taurus, Willie Mack, Rich Swann
> Bengala, Puma King, Flamita
> Pagano, Super Fly, Maximo
> Octagon Jr., Aerostar, Hijo del Vikingo
> Dinastia, Drago, Psycho Clown
> Mamba, Murder Clown, Nino Hamburguesa
> Argenis, Arez, Mr. Iguana
> Dave the Clown, Villano III Jr., Abismo Negro Jr.
> Faby Apache, Lady Shani, Big Mami
> Ayako Hamada, La Hiedra, Vanilla
> Lady Maravilla, Keyra, Hades

>Neither of last year’s champs (Laredo Kid & Taya) return. No Lucha Brothers; no one from AEW at all. That seems unlikely running on Wednesdays. Including Impact made it doubly unlikely. Australian Suicide mentioned he’d be part of this but isn’t in a match, so he’s likely doing commentary on Facebook comments again. (I would like the job of going to a BBQ restaurant and saying silly things on social media; I’m pretty sure I do that for free as it is.) There are some tippy-top people like Wagner, Demon, Kross, Escorpion who aren’t involved. There are also a few middle and lower people left out: Daga, Chessman, Monster Clown, Pimpinela, Eclipse, Astrolux, Dragon Bane, Aramis, Toxin, Iron Kid, Latigo, and Los Macizos. I wonder if the spot that was Lady Flammer and is now Hades started as Chik Tormenta’s place in the tournament. I think we all can agree Flamita should return to being Nightclaw to complete the cat theme of his team.

>Each week will have four three-way matches, featuring a member of a different team. If they stick with this format, you’ll never see these teams together during the early weeks of the tournament. They’ll be fighting on their own.

>Men and women will be in the same matches, though they’re heading to different championships. The three men’s teams and the two women’s teams with the most wins will advance to semi-finals. The winning teams will face off among themselves to determine overall men and women’s winners.

>The AAA press release mentions the competition will last eight weeks, which would mean a final on 12/04. Eight shows – or seven group episodes and one final – doesn’t seem to work evenly with the tournament structure. Maybe it’ll make sense later.

>Since every match is going to be a three-way, the poster seems a pretty good indication of the plans for tomorrow

> Rich Swann vs. Villano III Jr. vs. Ayako Hamada
> Aerostar vs. Drago vs. Flamita
> Nino Hamburguesa vs. Hades vs. Willie Mack
> Big Mami vs. Argenis vs. Maximo

>Note this doesn’t fit with what AAA’s already announced. If AAA has four three-way matches, that’s one person per team. There’s no Poder del Norte member listed for the first show, while both Rich Swann & Willie Mack are wrestling. Perhaps they had to double up on that team for availability reason, and it will all make sense later. It’s not a bet I would take.

>I’m not a fan of three-way matches in general, so seven weeks of them doesn’t seem ideal. The team format is an easy workaround for not being sure of having everyone available every week.

daylight savings time bullshit is approaching fast
USA and Mexico do it at different times so things are going to be out of wack for a bit
>Daylight Savings Time ends in Mexico (and many other places) early Sunday morning. It does not change in the US for a week more. It’s only seven days, shorter than the spring, but everything starting on Sunday will be one hour later than usual. The AAA Twitch show is the last show without any adjustment most people watch; if you only watch AAA on Twitch, you’re to going to notice anything. The Puebla show starts at 10 pm CT, the Lucha Capital show will be one hour after the AEW/NXT shows for one week only.

meanwhile, back on the Parka AAA front
>La Parka’s son (Karis La Momia Jr.) says his father was able to speak and identify the people in the room on Wednesday. Parka is said to be off a resperator and breathing on his own.

> Pentagon Jr. & Rey Fenix have reportedly signed new deals, which only relate to Mexico. The deals mean that AAA will be booking them in Mexico and they can’t do The Crash or CMLL. I’m not sure what that entails but their 11/1 Crash show looks to have been their last one with the promotion. CMLL had stopped booking them some time back, even though they were genuine draws when they worked there

Cubsfan's take on it
>WON reports Fenix & Penta have signed with AAA and they'll be handling their Mexico bookings go forward.
>Fenix & Penta are booked on indie shows in Mexico every weekend and rarely on AAA shows, so I'll believe this when I see it.
maybe they're using AAA as a base of operations than necessarily working there a lot
like if it's (bullshit number) $20 for them to show up and $7 for your average AAA guy I can see how the math of "book the $7 at our show and farm out the $20 guy so we pay less for our main event _and_ we get money from that other booking"
Ric Flair - Fri, 08 Nov 2019 11:26:13 EST jCH8J3Fu No.6323022 Reply
>maybe they're using AAA as a base of operations than necessarily working there a lot
even still, its surprising that they would go back to letting AAA have a say in their bookings cause thats why they quit in the first place. Dorian must have done something to sweeten the pot.

cubsfan presses X to doubt
>The Wrestling Observer Newsletter says Fenix & Penta “reportedly” signed new deals with AAA, which would give AAA control of the Lucha Brothers bookings in Mexico only. There’s no mention of who is reporting it. This is mentioned as related to CMLL & The Crash, though Penta & Fenix work for a lot of indie promotions beyond them. The Lucha Brothers are still working a lot of indie bookings thru the end of this year and were announced for The Crash’s next show after I started writing this paragraph. The WON doesn’t make sense as presented, which often doesn’t mean it’s completely wrong but means there’s a piece we’re missing. Maybe they’re working out the existing shows any deal would take effect in 2020? It’s still hard to understand how Penta & Fenix would benefit from a promotion booking them out in Mexico, outside of maybe keeping track of their calendar better. Though that doesn’t seem like a strong skill set of AAA either. I don’t get it.
Super Crazy - Fri, 08 Nov 2019 23:48:08 EST GXHNtkkw No.6323375 Reply
I've always gotten the impression that Konnan is their big connection, so wherever he is they are
but there's also a The Crash show in a couple of weeks with Lucha Bros vs Jack and Angelico (apparently the first time ever oddly enough) and it's hard to believe that a "AAA person" would be allowed anywhere near The Crash

including a rundown of all the current CMLL belts
>CMLL also revealed the first match for their Christmas Day show: a battle to determine the first-ever CMLL Micros champion. The belt was revealed on CMLL Informa. No names were announced but presumably, it’s the same six to eight people who are always in this match. The micros could use more variety (and more good variety), but adding a championship at least suggests an investment in continuing to build it. Chamuel winning seems like the way to go. The one story worth telling is Microman overcoming Chamuel for the title, and it doesn’t seem like concluding the story on day one is a way to go.
>A full list of current CMLL recognized champions
>NWA Historic (3)
> Welterweight: Volador (107 days since last defense)
> Middleweight: Caristico (247)
> Light Heavyweight: Stuka Jr. (37)

> Trios: Sanson, Cuatrero, Forastero (76)
>Other (2)
> Arena Coliseo Tag Team Championship: vacant (165)
> CMLL Japan Women Championship: vacant (new)
>This does not include the Occidente (Guadalajara) championships. It also doesn’t count the various tournaments, including the two Universal tournaments where the prizes are actual belts.
>The most recent Arena Coliseo Tag Team Champions were Triton & Esfinge, so Triton leaving has left those belts on the sideline. Those titles have been put on the shelf before. It may be the same again. Kawato San is the only person bringing up the lightweight title. CMLL’s run so many other tournaments that they may have just not had a chance to decide it. The most surprising bit to me is every CMLL championship will have been contested at least once this year following Saturday’s Caristico/Cuatrero match. That doesn’t seem to happen every year.

An update about AroLucha, which I'm surprised is still around:

>Fightful spoke with a source recently who indicated they had been released from their two-year deal early, at their request. There were no shows scheduled, and they hadn't received any word from the company outside of an odd CBD survey that AroLucha sent out to a mailing list. We were told the release was granted and amicable.

>This led to Fightful reaching out to several sources on their status with the company. Former Fightful Podcast host Shane Helms noted that he had originally signed a one-year contract with AroLucha, and it simply expired. "Cowboy" James storm clarified that he was on a per-appearance deal without a contract, simply a handshake deal.

>Another top name for Arolucha, when asked about their deal, the CBD e-mail and more said "Lol AroLucha. I didn’t get the email but I heard about that (with a facepalm emoji). Where’d everyone’s money go?"

>AroLucha CEO Jason Brown responded to Fightful's request for comment about the status of the company recently, saying "We’re not running any live event (house shows) at the moment. We’re 100% focused on setting the television up and getting it produced, and that may take a bit. We’re not going anywhere, but we are taking our time and being strategic and opportunistic. "

>Originally AroLucha featured John Morrison, Jack Evans, Rey Mysterio, Willie Mack, MVP, Taya and others.

I guess they still wanted to do shows on Xmas and New Years.

Not directly related, but it's still kinda fucked up that they named Sofia as president, did the public reveal, had her do the whole "everything's fine please trust me/us" deal and not even 3 months later they just replaced her quietly and acted as if that whole thing never happened for no real reason lol. Or maybe she just decided that having her old role and being the president at the same time was too much? I don't know the whole thing was pretty bizarre.

>CMLL announced the end of all shows for the time being at 3:49 pm Mexico City time on Saturday. The Homenaje a Dos Leyendas card is technically suspended, with the idea they’ll be doing that celebration sometime later, while the others are canceled.
>Arena Revolucion, a small group in Mexico City, says their show for 03/22 is also canceled. They say Fantasma told them to cancel it, which implies Fantasma has declared no more lucha libre events will take place in Mexico City for now. Mexico State is a different regulation body and everything seems to have gone on there as normal this weekend.

>AAA’s 03/28 taping in Torreon has not been canceled as of yet; that area has not banned gatherings. Indie shows generally went on in Mexico this weekend, including the latest Zona 23 junkyard show.

>Fly Star mentions Carxyus suffered a right hand injury at yesterday's Zona 23 show. He's undergoing surgery to save mobility of the hand. Fly Star is selling off masks to help pay for medical costs.
> Carxyus is the guy responsible for filming the Zona 23 shows and getting them to IWTV. (He got cut while filming.) If you've enjoyed watching Zona 23 via IWTV, he's the guy you have to thank.
>Box Y Lucha also mentioned a bank account to donate towards: https://www.facebook.com/boxylucha/photos/a.10150113817166559/10157340061981559/?type=3
"It was a scary situation. The guy at Smart Mark was worried sick for him and told me his arm was sliced open due to one of the weapons flying at him. They rushed him out as quick as they could but he probably bled more than anyone else on the show"

>IWRG says that they plan on running Thursday/Sunday shows with no fans as long as the government permits it:

yeah seems Mexico's handling it like USA on a state-by-state basis
also it's kind of hilarious that the first serious injury at a Zona 23 show is the camera guy

Like multiple years of experience announcing big matches at people who are somewhat in the arena, set for that.

I don't know that Zona 23 had much for commentary, but you bring up a good point that lucha broadcasts would definitely be lacking as the announcers might not have the crowd's energy to draw off of

>Lucha Libre Vanguardia is planning on running an empty arena show on Wednesday night. Show will include the 1st ever Rey del Ghetto tournament and a Ciclope/Lobo Blanco no DQ match. +LuchaTV will stream it.

>Vanguardia often runs in Pachuca, where even empty arena lucha libre events are currently banned. They've noticably not mentioned where they plan on running.

they're pretty cool
but it's kinda mind-blowing now that I think about it, that if you'd said five or six years ago "trendy thing is being made with lucha patterns, like the masks of El Santo, Blue Demon, LA Park, Dr Wagner, La Parka, and Pagano's facepaint" that would have been fucking insane like in 1996 if you said the pile of merch has choices of Bret Hart, Hogan, La Parka, Sting's facepaint, and Sandman

>Sonora based indie luchador Black Demon passed away a few days ago. SuperLuchas is reporting it as a coronavirus related death, the first wrestler to die of it in Mexico. https://superluchas.com/muerte-en-la-lucha-libre-mexicana-por-coronavirus/

>Mexico's social distancing has been extended through at least May 30th, with the expectations the first wave of infections ending June 25th. That probably means no major public lucha libre shows in Mexico until July, though SuperLuchas points out it could come a little sooner in places less affected: https://superluchas.com/coronavirus-lucha-mexicana-finales-de-junio/

>AAA's eSports is doing a Smash Brothers Ultimate tournament this weekend. There's a qualifier open to anyone Saturday night, though looks only a few spots are left.

>AAA announced Wednesday that they’d resume running shows on an empty arena basis. The Lucha Fighter tournament will air live each of the next four Saturday nights at 8 pm CT. The shows will air on AAA’s YouTube and Facebook. (Not Twitch, though that will still have the eSports tournament.) 16 male luchadors, 8 luchadors, and 4 minis will participate. There will be a fan voting element. The size of the field suggests a single elimination tournament but AAA may do something more complicated. No specific names are announced for the tournament. No taping location is mentioned. No television partners are mentioned; this might just be digital content at the moment. They do not appear to be doing English commentary.

>>Earlier, +LuchaTV announced they’re also running their own tournament. It’s called Torneo Supremo +Mas Lucha. It’ll be a 16 person single-elimination tournament with various indie luchadors. Metaleon, Hijo del Alebrije, Ciclope, Arez, Payaso Purasanta Jr., Corsario Negro Jr., Camuflaje, Miedo Extremo, Jitsu, Demonio Infernal, Hip Hop Man, Fresero Jr., Ricky Marvin, Super Nova, Hijo del Pirata Morgan, and Aramis are announced for the tournament. The bracketing has not been announced. The matches will air on +LuchaTV’s YouTube channel, though no date has been specified.

>There’s no danger in the +LuchaTV tournament being prohibited by a local government; the tournament was taped before it was publically announced. (It’s unclear how the AAA tournament will work.) This also means luchadors have worked between one and four matches and have not been paid for them as of yet. They will only be paid on how many donations come through after the fact. Luchadors did get paid as promised from the Lucha Memes show, so there’s some confidence this system could continue to work. It will take all those people who donated last time to come back again, and there’s no knowing if that’ll happen.

>This tournament is also +LuchaTV creating content for itself because it needs new content to exist. The channel put up the last CAR The Crash show before the shutdown last night. It’s possible there are a few more older shows to put up, but they have to be about out. +LuchaTV’s business is built around putting up videos of shows every day, and there are no more shows. They’ve been shifting to putting up interviews and cutting out matches from full shows they’ve already put up or they have to create their own shows. There’s talk about helping luchadors through this tough period, but it’s also about +LuchaTV trying to survive themselves. (“Talk” may be overstating it; +Lucha’s promotion of the tournament on social media doesn’t mention the wrestler pay part of it outside of a brief aside on their podcast.) That seems to lead to things like preferring to keep the money flowing through YouTube, because that’s how +LuchaTV makes their money, rather than trying to push the money towards platforms which might keep a little less of the donations.

>This seems like a not great deal for the luchadors. Most of them aren’t normally working shows without some guarantee; there’s an expectation they’ll get paid in the end but they probably wouldn’t take a show like this under normal circumstances. This is also not a normal circumstance, and there aren’t any great alternatives. If this tournament works, it’s going to work because +LuchaTV has a huge channel subscription base and a big social media reach; they can get a lot of eyes on the tournament and are promoting it hard. There are ways the luchadors can take that power for themselves – maybe as simple as promoting the tournament in the usual Instagram posts while giving options for fans to buy a t-shirt or a mask or donate directly – but that’s not in the style of the Mexican independent wrestler.

As a fan, I feel conflicted on supporting any empty arena wrestling right now, be in from Mexico or elsewhere. Everyone can insist that they’re taking all precautions, checking temperatures, wiping down mats, limiting people and more, but body-to-body contact and traveling is ignoring those precautions. (Empty arena wrestling is also not as good as with people, but that seems like a relatively minor concern.) At the same time, I’d like the wrestlers and the wrestling promotions and the wrestling videos channel to continue to exist once this is over and the only way they seem to know how to last that long is to just do whatever they already do on a smaller scale. The pitch is lucha libre as a distraction, but it mostly serves to remind me how messed up everything is at the moment.

>Manuel Ramirez (Kastroso) is the current head of the Ciudad Juarez lucha libre commission, which means Sunday’s empty arena show headlined by Pagano and Ex-Sin Cara is under his watch. Ramirez says the commission has approved Pagano’s empty arena show. Ramirez says Pagano is taking this seriously as far as medical conditions and keeping as few people as possible in the arena – like with the Lucha Memes show, only the wrestlers who are having a match will be allowed to be in Arena Kalaka.

>Konnan mentioned KAOZ is planning on running empty arena shows.

>There's also a mention [on Konnan's podcast] that Azteca is putting some pressure on AAA for new TV. AAA's empty arena tournament hasn't been mentioned as something for TV but perhaps that's a reason it's happening.

>Congratulations to Jon Moxley on becoming the 11th Lucha Underground champion.

Some big news from thecubsfan:

>Wednesday’s Metro (Mexico City) paper had La Hiedra on the cover. That is about normal for that paper; it’s the kind of tabloid newspaper that routinely puts a beautiful woman and/or a corpse on the front page to get noticed as people walk by the stand. The problem here is those Hiedra images aren’t from a photoshoot or a paparazzi. The article isn’t available online (the paper itself isn’t sold online), but those who’ve seen it say those photos appear to be intimate images she’s sent to a past boyfriend, who decided to pass them to the newspaper, who then thought this was something worth publishing. There’s no apparent news value the article, they’re simply that day’s salacious attempt to sell a few copies at a time when there are few people going to newsstands. SuperLuchas has a column ripping the writer of the piece and suggesting Hiedra sue.

>Another terrible situation involves an extortion attempt on an AAA luchador. A video from Octagon and Hijo del Octagon was posted on Hijo’s Facebook page Wednesday. It’s the usual bit from Octagon, claiming he’s suing someone – this time AAA & Octagon Jr. (Golden Magic) over the rights to the name – and showing papers far enough from the camera to make it impossible to see what they actually say. That sort of video wouldn’t even be worth mentioning at this point because they don’t seem to go anywhere. What’s different here is Octagon and Hijo del Octagon start joking about another video they’re in possession of, which in their view would be embarrassing to Octagon Jr/Golden Magic. There’s a clear threat implied of publishing that video if Golden Magic doesn’t stop using the Octagon character. It’s less clear if any video actually exists or if they’re really in possession of it; the Octagons have not been known for their honesty. Even as a lie, it says a lot about the moral character of Octagon and Hijo del Octagon to make that sort of threat. In the US, this video would’ve immediately turned everyone against those two. The Hiedra issue has gotten some decent negative attention, but this one seems to have gone under the radar.

>CMLL Informa announced the Arena Coliseo Tag Team championships will be decided in a new tournament. Esfinge & Triton were the current champions. Triton left the promotion back in August. CMLL subsequently brought back the Mexican National Tag Team Championship, which seemed to serve the same purpose as these tag titles and made them redundant. There’s no such thing as redundant championships in CMLL, so these belts will return sometime after CMLL does. It’s possible this tournament was one of the two intended to take place in April.

>Pasala has an interview with Mariela Rodriguez, the widow of Mr. Niebla. He passed away last December 23 and she’s upset with the treatment CMLL offered him. She says Niebla suffered an elbow injury in Oaxaca, where liquid came out. Kraneo, who also works as a chiropractor, saw the injury and told Niebla he had an infection. Rodriguez told CMLL Chief of Medical Services Omar Palacios that Niebla was still ill, and Palacio insisted Niebla only had a high temperature and no infection. Niebla apparently later got checked on elsewhere and was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes and kidney failure. Rodriguez feels Palacios didn’t listen to her or her husband’s concerns, didn’t sound the necessary alarms, never apologized, and didn’t even show to the funereal – though that part was probably for the best since she’s not sure how she would’ve reacted. Pasala writes Omar Palacios was recommended to CMLL by Brazo de Oro and believes he is technically a physical therapist, not a doctor. They also pass on a rumor that Palacios was close to being removed from his position, but was saved when the Lutteroths took control of the company from Sofia Alonso.
