The difference is, AEW is at the whim of TNT. They get the day and time slot that is given to them. WWE can air a show at any time on any day on their network. So when they decide for the first time ever to air an indy show on the network at the same time AEW is doing a show it's pretty suspicious.

I have my doubts TNT is trying to counter program NXT.

NXT is a taped show on a steaming service fans can watch anytime they want.
AEW is a live weekly show on regular TV you can only see once for the time being.
If NXT suddenly goes two hours live on regular TV, how does that not count as WWE counter programming?

  1. Can you show me the exact date of said comments by WWE or FOX?
  2. Can you show me that this move to FS1 has been officially announced?

The answer to the second one is no obviously. You can say you want to do things but if you don't do it, don't be shocked when someone else does.
Plus, Smackdown was announced day one for the FOX deal. We are two months from AEWs debut
If WWE wanted NXT on FS1 by now, they would have announced it last year, not last second.

TNT gave AEW a guaranteed timeslot. NXT does not have a timeslot on Fox Sports. NXT would be “counter-programming” if AEW beats NXT to TV.

“Those absolutely have been in discussions with Fox. There have been discussions around additional promotional programming that would highlight other activities in WWE. So those are certainly very positive discussions that are taking place — both on FS1 and Fox Broadcast.”
WWE President Michelle Wilson, June 26, 2018: https://www.cagesideseats.com/wwe/2018/6/27/17511024/wwe-nxt-fox-sports-1-discussion-new-tv-deal-report

Ryan Satin had the scoop that it was NXT: https://www.prowrestlingsheet.com/wwe-fox-programming/#.XUyEKpNKi8o
These talks have been going on since before ALL IN

>If WWE wanted NXT on FS1 by now, they would have announced it last year, not last second.
It might not be WWE's call ya know.

It took seven months for TNT to announce the AEW deal. Lucha Underground was in development for almost two years. Anthem has been trying to buy AXS since last December (and may still be talking them with an NDA).

These kinds of things take time. Hell the "NXT on FS1" deal could all be hinging on how well SD does on Fox, which has nothing to do with AEW.

>You can say you want to do things but if you don't do it, don't be shocked when someone else does.
I agree with this. But it also doesn't mean you're doing something *because* someone else got there first.

There's no way you're this stupid. As soon as AEW became reality, WWE started making massive increases in guaranteed pay, making dudes like Gallows and Anderson millionaires. They announced out of the blue that Evolve was going to stream on their network at the same time as AEW was on BR Live. Of course putting NXT on FS1 is designed to counter program. I don't like to use the term Stamford wife but come the fuck on. They've used NXT like this before, running head to head against ROH in the same cities on the same night.

It's a little more complicated than that. For example, Universal owns all the rights to any solo Hulk movies, but he's allowed to appear in other films/media (which is why we never got another Hulk movie after the Disney buyout).

Another weird thing was a bunch of villains (like Skrulls) were lumped into the Fantastic Four rights years ago. Marvel Studios essentially had to buy the rights back to use Skrulls in Captain Marvel. Fox owned Ego the Living Planet too, so there was some kind of negotiations to use him in GotG2.

IIRC I think Namor was literally one of the first film rights to get sold outright (rather than just licensed).

I doubt MCU would even bother adding in Namor anyway. He's basically Aquaman-meets-Black-Panther. His role in MCU would be redundant, and any Namor film would just feel like a rip off of DCEU's Aquaman.

I was hoping they'd get the rights in time for Endgame to reveal that Thanos was trying to halve the population in the universe to keep Galactus from noticing all the ripe, full planets bursting with life force for him to feed on. Reality teems with life, and somewhere deep in the heart of the universe, the Devourer stirs.

Nah, it just seemed convenient to kill half the people just cuz.

Overpopulation killed his own planet, so he went on a crazy crusade that he was able to justify to himself was about making sure life survives and the universe thrives

It's better than asspulling a bigger threat out of nowhere that has never even been referenced in any prior movie. Thanos was probably the best villain they've done in superhero movies in a long time. Endgame needed to be a satisfying conclusion not just "fu fu fu, theres really a bigger threat", that's why they had to post credit scene stuff

I guess I ultimately just wanted his big plan to be more than "become omnipotent, kill half the people, do nothing". Like, Thanos is smart enough to realize that removing half the population from a functioning society would absolutely fuck the infrastructure, but sure, when violence was his only option, he used violence. Ends justifies the means and all.

Like, they couldn't do the "impress Death" thing for a variety of reasons, but at least that that was true to Thanos's motivations. If Thanos's motivation is that he just loves life that gosh darned much that he's prepared to kill for it, and he becomes omnipotent and his plan is STILL "kill half the people, only FASTER"... I dunno, I wish there was more to it.

>>6281625
>I mean, if he did wish for that, there'd be no movie

Black Panther has to be one of the most overrated movies in recent years. Micheal B Jordan played the role fantastically, but Killmonger was not a good character. Despite his sad backstory, he was pretty one dimensional, had a dumb plan and made Wakandans look like a bunch of tribalistic retards than the advanced enlightened society they're supposed to be.

Seriously aside from being the black superhero movie and having some good performances I really don't get why this is so popular, it's such an average, middle of the road Marvel movie and should be lumped in with the Spiderman reboots, Antman and Dr Strange.

Almost none of them, they're for the most part middle of the road, generic popcorn movies with shit villains. The last two avengers movies being exceptions. Possibly the second captain america movie as it's basically a worse mission impossible movie but with cap. Guardians movies are good because they feel unique due to james gunn's direction and not being as stock.

That's it, rest of them for the most part are average or slightly above average action movies.

>Killmonger was not a good character

Between an understanable motivation (seeking revenge on those who oppressed Black people around the world for centuries, the Wakandans who sat idly by while it happened, and the Black Panther who killed his father), a fitting plan (capture the throne of Wakanda and use the technology pioneered by the country to free Black people from subjugation and oppression), the way he carried it out (killing Klawe to gain access to Wakanda, then beating T'Challa to both win the throne and symbolically avenge his father’s death), and the fact that he did ultimately (help) change T’Challa’s mind about Wakandan isolation? Killmonger was a damn good character. He was also the best villain in the MCU until Thanos—and arguably still is, depending on how one feels about Thanos.

“Bury me in the ocean with my ancestors who jumped from ships 'cause they knew death was better than bondage” is still the best line in the entire fucking MCU, by the way.

“I mean in general, you’re digging hard for something that ain’t there […] What did [Vince] say? He said ‘blood and guts’… did you see blood? Intentional blood? Right, you just answered the question so what you’re digging for isn’t there. Like, that’s the ridiculous thing in this. There was nothing there that you have not seen. Barbed wire as a deterrent for leaving the cage did not get used. Nobody intentionally bled, there was no blood anywhere… there were chairs, there were Kendo sticks. There were pliers, not needle-nosed so those were different, but what else was different? What was the gore and the guts that we went to that is making you say that this was a different turn?”

Why is this such a terrible thing, beyond the "hurr durr Steph" hate? Is she supposed to temper their ambitions and not be as big as possible? The WWE and the McMahons have made no secret of wanting to be a full-on entertainment and media company. Why not try to grow your business to be as big as Disney? Because they're "just a wrestling company"? Disney was once just a bunch of mouse and duck cartoons. If you don't aim high, you don't hit high.

Nah, just don't say stupid shit that shows a complete lack of self awareness. If she said 'We're already the Disney of the wrestling world, but we can get even bigger!' People would still laugh, but few could argue.

It’s terrible for two reasons:
  1. WWE executives who think the company could ever be another Disney—in any way—are deluding themselves. Disney owns multiple television networks, multiple movie studios, Marvel, many of the most successful animated feature films (and some of the most successful animated television shows) in the United States, and the IP rights to a staggering amount of media franchises. And that was before the Fox buyout. To think WWE could ever achieve the same level of success and power as The Walt Disney Corporation isn’t absurd, it’s off-the-charts delusion.
  2. Even if it were possible for WWE to be the next Disney (it’s not), the fact that Disney is what it is—a billion-dollar international multimedia empire with more sociopolitical power than a god and ownership of more popular media IPs than anyone should be comfortable with—doesn’t mean other companies should become that, too. WWE is already the Disney of pro wrestling; how much worse do you want it to be in that regard?

NXT TakeOvers are no better than your typical GCW, PWG or BEYOND show. They're great when you compare them to the rest of WWE, but it's nothing you can't get somewhere else. Weekly shows suck ass. The TakeOvers are good, but they only happen about 5 times a year. GCW runs about 20 shows per year. Beyond has top-notch shows every single week with Uncharted Territory.

So yeah, would I rather someone I like wrestle in NXT where they can produce a great match MAYBE 5 times a year? Or would I rather them stay on the indies where they're free to wrestle everywhere and have great performances multiple times per month for multiple promotions?

So UFC fighter contracts are just as carny as WWE performer deals;
https://www.bloodyelbow.com/2019/8/13/20758629/ufc-lawsuit-docs-reveal-joe-silva-negotiation-tactics-nick-diaz-roy-nelson-hector-lombard-mma-news?utm_campaign=bloodyelbow&utm_content=entry&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter

>Below are a number of interesting details regarding clauses in UFC contracts. Also below are examples of how Silva utilized these clauses to ensure that fighters were under UFC control for as long as possible, under less than ideal terms for fighters.

>In one of Singer’s passages (see Extract 1) it is established that most UFC contracts, “include provisions that toll the agreement for any period that a fighter is injured, retired, or otherwise unable or unwilling to appear in a bout.”

>‘Tolling’ is a legal term, which in this context, means pausing, delaying, or suspending a time period within a contract.

>Sometime before November 2012 the UFC began utilizing another tactic to prolong the amount of time a fighter is contracted to the UFC; ‘injury extensions’ (see Extract 2). Singer’s report alleges that the UFC began automatically extending the contracts of fighters’ who were known to be injured after a bout, thus prolonging how long a fighter was controlled by the UFC and how long the UFC had to offer them bouts.

I didn't know there was a word for it but yes tolling is such a bullshit tactic but it's WWE and UFC's way of exerting control over its independent contractors from being able to freely jump to another promotion.

In 2014 the UFC’s top lawyer Lawrence Epstein wrote in an email to Assistant General Counsel Kirk Hendrick and Senior Vice President Business, Legal, and Government Affairs Mike Mersch, about Jones, stating, “We need to send him a letter formally offering the Gustafson (sic) fight and giving him a specific deadline to accept or reject. When he says no we need to extend him.”

>Singer’s report quotes Silva, who explained that when Lombard was on the fourth fight of his eight-fight UFC contract, he stood to make $205,000 to show and $75,000 to win. However, Silva said he was able to convince Lombard to fight for less than half that amount ($100,000) in exchange for not being cut by the promotion.

To people born after 1970: Star Wars to the Hidden Fortress or any good reimagining/retelling/straight theft of Shakespeare. Also Marlowe's Faust to Goethe's Faust to The Master and Margarita.

that reminds me of this story from the Paul London abd Brian Kendrick shoot

>Now, they tell a story about Benoit at a Bob Evans. London and Kendrick were sitting on one side of the table and at the other side were Jamie Noble (who London refers to as "Mini Benoit"), Bob Holly, and Chris Benoit. Benoit orders an insane breakfast, demanding his steak be steamed, with Bob Holly asking for twice as much food. London said he ordered egg whites and and a small steak to not piss them off but Benoit made him get the big steak. When Kendrick ordered, he asked for pancakes and waffles with all sorts of syrup and as the waitress was taking the order, Benoit reached his hand across the table and pushed down the waitresses pad and made Kendrick order what he had and watched him as he ate everything on his plate. London said he valued these experiences though and unerstood some of what they were trying to teach them.
