Step 1) Guy is really good on 205 Live. Hold him back for a few months to get his small but loyal 205 Live fanbase fired up.
Step 2) Finally use Murphy but have him get punked out a bit. Gets his small fanbase fired up. (just check the replies to every tweet about the Roman Buddy match before Smack, full of people bitching that they better not bury him)
Step 3) He has a great match that shows even more people how great he is while also establishing him as being able to hang with main eventers therefore preserving his credibilitye. His fanbase will now grow.
Step 4) Have the GOAT heel Daniel Bryan and his heavy punk Murphy out again to get his growing fanbase even more fired up.
Step 5) He has an explosive high flying style so turn him face with another starmaking performance vs Bryan
Step 6) Print money with Buddy Murphy now a top babyface putting on great matches and also ensuring control of the Australian market which NuJapan was trying to get a foothold in.

Excessively generous of you to assume WWE plans anything much less has any plans to draw money

I love matches like this
everyone comes out looking good in the end, everybody wins
by making him look strong and not like a geek, Buddy is elevated even in defeat

Great match

I watched the entire G1 this year and have been watching for years.

Yes, Buddy is obviously very influenced by New Japan, he busted out a V-Trigger, kamigoye, and a brainbuster in succession, but that's what wrestling is. Wrestling is about taking from those who influence you. Christ, Kota took the bomaye.

I don't think wrestling is literally taking peoples signature shit wholesale especially when still active and incredibly popular, If some geeks moveset was just the Rock bottom, stunner, bionic elbow. Sweetchin Music, Pedigree and double arm DDT all while they're still wrestling I'd probably rip the piss out of him too

Just goes to show that there's nothing complicated about wrestling. Despite the storyline being shoddy at-best, and Buddy looking like a geek beforehand, the very simple, logical foundation to the match made it so the crowd actually gave a shit about Buddy.

US workers "stealing" from Japan has been happening for literally decades because the moves people use in Japan are cool and it helps them get over. It wasn't a problem when dudes in ECW were doing it, it wasn't a problem when dudes in ROH were doing it, it wasn't a problem when CM Punk and Daniel Bryan took large portions of their WWE offense from Japan, and it's not a problem now

arguing the perception of taking moves wholesale by using periods where you literally had to send strangers money to watch it vs being able to watch in seconds is not a very strong argument. The problem isn't literally just stealing moves on its own, it's taking moves clearly associated with people that are on a worldwide scale at this point em masse. In fact Samoa Joe doing so and then getting laughed at when he went to Japan and did his Pillar cosplay shit practically makes my argument

Not really seeing what the point is at all, to be honest. Pretty clear at this point that WWE fans aren't going to laugh at Murphy for using some New Japan moves so who gives a shit

the point is just blatantly just taking a massive amount of your shit from still active very popular wrestlers across the world isn't just some thing only the tiny minority purveying japanese bookstores will notice anymore

> Pretty clear at this point that WWE fans aren't going to laugh at Murphy for using some New Japan moves

Good thing i never said they would, although someone who wrestled on 205 live getting laughs would still be an improvement over crickets i guess

But why does it matter? What actual negative effect is there to him stealing the kamigoye (don't think you can really steal the jumping knee move when it's already being done in WWE by Aleister Black, Mandy Rose, Kassius Ohno, Matt Riddle and probably some other people I'm forgetting)? WWE crowds may or may not be aware of where it comes from depending on where they are but it's patently obvious that they don't care in enough numbers to matter, just like they didn't care when Bryan and Punk stole finishes from KENTA or when Rollins was doing that godawful V-Trigger

Here's hoping this leads to consistent booking for Murphy. Would love to see his feud with Ali ignited again. Imagine him v Ali v Nakamura. Would be a great match.

>>6284023

Just because it's more easily available doesn't mean that all fans are watching, Lots of WWE fans don't even watch NXT, you think they'll watch NJPW?

You're getting worked up over nothing. This shit happens all the time. There was a period where everyone and their mother was using Superkicks, short arm lariats, etc as their finishers.

I mean the negative effect is that you can't really call it his move/moveset? Even today people still shit on Joes tenure of just mimicking puro dudes so blatantly even when being a far smaller group of people. It's just optically poor over just having your own moveset that isn't just taking signature moves from wrestlers very much still wrestling and very popular

WWE had a real shot of actually getting this guy over last night by just having him say something to the effect of "I lied, I saw you too Bryan" while they kicked his shit in, but instead they just made him look like a geek

Now they'll do nothing to capitalize on this momentum and have lose a bunch of short, meaningless matches week after week until the audience doesn't care about him and he's off the show again.

The cliffhanger ending was "we kinda don't know who we're gonna put in the spot of Roman's attacker, so let's put it off until next week" bullshit, too.
