>On a weekend full of wild gimmick shows this one may be the most bold of all. We're going back to a time when people made the trek to see international talent brought in under one roof to do what they do best. Yes... this will be a wrestling show for the wrestling fan.

>The idea, based off US vs The World last year, is to do a show focusing on some names you may not have heard of but certainly won't be available to us in 2021 once they explode. The goal is a couple first time singles matches & presenting a variety of international names.

>Learning from last year our plan is to not overbook the show. It will be a tight 2 hours & every match will give the guys a chance to shine.

>If you want to whet your whistle with great wrestling before NXT or ROH - this is where you need to be on Saturday afternoon. (Yes a subtle reminder there will be plenty of drinks available!)

ugh is Drew doing more of his lame worked-shoots that don't add anything to Beyond? I guess the "network pilot" is just a gimmick that's trying to make the indie more like a TV show

>Beyond Wrestling will crown their first ever champion when they tape their "network pilot" on March 1 in Melrose, Massachusetts.

>For over a decade Beyond has been at the cutting edge of the independent scene, but the promotion has never had its own championship. In recent years the IWTV Independent Wrestling Championship has regularly been defended on Beyond events, only adding to the desire of the promotion's fanbase to see a Beyond-specific title created.

>The decision to introduce a championship to Beyond was made by the project's investors earlier this week. The yet-to-be-named General Manager will determine which participants will compete for the coveted prize.

>While Beyond Wrestling's owner Drew Cordeiro was unable to comment on the matter, Beyond's content distribution partners at IndependentWrestling.TV are pleased by the decision.

"Beyond Wrestling has been a huge part of the growth and success of IWTV," said IWTV official Gerard Durling. "For so long there has been resistance to Beyond having their own championship and I'm glad to see those days are behind us."

Tessa Blanchard Pulls Out Of BattleWorld'88
>Tessa Blanchard has pulled out of BattleWorld'88, which was set for Jan. 31 in Vancouver. Blanchard was scheduled to wrestle The Dark Sheik.

>Blanchard was accused of racism and bullying on Jan. 11 by multiple wrestlers, but she denied the allegations. Shortly after the allegations came to light, Dark Sheik contemplated not working the match with Tessa, which was booked before accusations were made.

>Tessa made the decision for Sheik, deciding to pull herself from the event on Jan. 20.

>Blanchard, who won the IMPACT World Title the day after the allegations came out on social media, issued a statement on Jan. 16 where she denied using racist language. She did not address the bullying allegations.

>Timothy Thatcher is currently at the WWE Performance Center and has signed a WWE developmental deal, PWInsider.com has confirmed. Thatcher started with the company this week.

>Thatcher, 36, has long been a talent that WWE has been interested in but had previously turned down overtures from the company. William Regal and Canyon Cemen had both had Thatcher on their radar in recent years.

>Best known for his work in EVOLVE, Thatcher has been a world traveled veteran who has competed for WXW in Germany, Revolution Pro in Great Britain, PWG and MLW in the United States and many other promotions. As an in-ring worker, he's in the top tier out there currently, so this is a tremendous signing for the company.

>Thatcher first being at the WWE PC was initially reported by Squared Circle Sirens.

Evolve has sold 188 for the same day later on. And that's with appearances by Rhea Ripley, Keith Lee and Ciampa promoted. Attendance in Melrose in the past for Beyond hasn't been great but they're going to have to add more tickets.

My theory on it is that it's a piss take that's a deliberate "fuck you" to the city of Melrose. I only recently learned about their history there and how the city threatened them if they ever released an intergender JT Dunn & Mia Yim match that they ok'ed before it took place and freaked out about after the fact. Hence the over the top "no indergender" thing. Drew probably figured he could have some fun with it and whatever the angle is will end with them pretty much saying "nah fuck you, we're staying the same."

Well it seems to be working they've sold over 300 tickets and by my last count Evolve has sold under 200.

Some people seem to not be reallizing it's a very obvious work which is fucking hilarious.

I still maintain that Cody half throwing her to the wolves with the Bayley comparison (shitting on Bayley in the process) at that Starrcast panel caused all of the most horrid WWE Diva stans/Bayley fans and the notorious terrible human beings Sasha stans to maul her online with abuse which caused to break mentally if she was already anyway fragile to begin with. Some people just are not ready/capable of handling that level of toxic scrutiny from mental people who frankly shouldnt have a voice as they choose to abuse the privilege so bad. Kevin Steen said when he got to WWE the level of hate and abuse he would get from "fans" online increased x1000 fold and was something even he was unprepared for as he thought he had seen the worst of the worst of wrestling fandom. It was a whole new level of hate and bile and vitriol that caught even him off guard.

The fact people are actually still questioning whether this is a piss take is actually kind of depressing. I saw one guy on Twitter losing his absolute shit at Drew Cordeiro booking himself into a match.

Still curious as to where this is all going and it's even weirder it's not on the IWTV live stream schedule yet.

eh... I wouldn't go as far as to say it's in a "crazy good state right now". It's in a rebuilding phase after the last 5 years of needle-movers and headliners were all signed by WWE/AEW.

speaking as someone who probably posts the most match announcements, indies don't wait until a few days to announces matches. But unfortunately the scene is in a rebuilding phase and it doesn't help anyone to spam the front page with 10 danhausen graphics. trying to stagger the actually-interesting shows & matches from the places that are building a legit buzz.

Final 2 Wrestlecon Superhosw matches have been announced.

Reminder that the rest of the matches & wrestlers are a mystery until belltime.

In addition to these guys, the show is:
>Bandido vs Shingo
>Will Ospreay
>Amazing Red
>Alex Zayne & Blake Christian & Jordan Oliver

I went last year and even with PAC/ the DG talents getting fucked on visas, it was still a fantastic show. I marked the fuck out at the surprise of Jushin Liger teaming up with X Pac and the Hurricane,

In all honesty, WC probably puts on a more consistent weekend than GCW's The Collective (less shows, more marquee names)

That characters are what's big on the indies right now. There's plenty of good wrestling out there now, moreso on "TV wrestling" than there has been in a while, so wrestlers need more to stand out.

Ezekiel Jackson - Mon, 02 Mar 2020 18:11:37 EST XjzLSbOC No.6364462 Reply
WWE is to blame. WWE and NXT scalped the indies to a point where places like MLW, Impact and ROH have no choice but to sign their guys to exclusive contracts making the indies a dry waste land right now. It will slowly come back to life and then everyone will get scooped up and signed right away again.

WWE did this to the UK scene recently and now they are trying to get into Japan. Nowhere is safe from WWEs big waving shitty dick that signs up all the wrestlers in the world to do almost nothing and get almost no TV time. It's a retirement home and a containment company for wrestlers to not wrestle elsewhere and get over.
First off Orange Cassidy can wrestle and not just his AEW PPV match he just had. I mean the years he spent as Fire Ant as well as Orange Cassidy. OC and Marko Stunt are barely considered indie guys anymore anyways. They are on TNT every Wednesday and big PPVs in big arenas now.
Ezekiel Jackson - Mon, 02 Mar 2020 18:12:56 EST XjzLSbOC No.6364463 Reply
You're also ignoring Jake Something, Josh Alexsander, Ethan Page, Nick Gage, and many many more who wrestle indies on the regular and are not comedy wrestlers.

Nick Gage has been around forever. I'm talking lately. Definitely post Bullet Club and Cody and Bucks leaving ROH.

Joey Ryan as well got over for being a goof.

Don't care if Cassidy can wrestle. He got popular because of the gimmick.
Now on the indies you can be another epic amazing wrestler which are almost a dime a dozen or use a gimmick to get yourself over

Yeah, but Gage isn't exactly Kenny Omega himself. He's another example where character and charisma matter more than workrate. You don't have to be a comedy guy to stand out, but you do have to have to have some sort of character. You can't just be firsty mclastname and rely on your technical chops anymore, there has to be personality. And Nick Gage fucking bleeds personality all over the mat.

Live Sumo is pretty late in the evening/early in the morning (for Westerners), particularly the Top Division, but if/when there is a stream occurring it should be happening in here
http://taima.tv/r/wooomo or https://www.twitch.tv/karla_marxist
you may be able to check https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/ for live and on demand video.
Stop by the #Sumo channel in the Discord for potential highlights of each day.
and for those with a TV check to see if you have the NHK World channel, daily Sumo Highlights start at 12:30pm Eastern U.S. and have re-runs throughout the day until the next new Highlights.

>corona virus
It should be noted that this months Basho is going to take place in an Empty Arena due to Corona Virus concerns. Something like this apparently has never happened in the long history of Sumo. It should be interesting/unique to say the least

A WrestleMania Coronavirus Shutdown Would Be a Catastrophe for Indie Wrestling
"I’m not kidding, if this is a full cancellation, I’ll likely sell my house,” one promoter said.
>World Wrestling Entertainment’s 36th annual WrestleMania, is, as of now, scheduled for April 5th at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. Not only is it a massive event, but it’s a particularly international one.

>According to an economic impact report released by WWE, the fanbase descending on WrestleMania last year in the New York City metropolitan area came from all 50 states and 68 countries, with similar numbers the previous two years in New Orleans and Orlando. WrestleMania is more than a singular wrestling card; it also features multiple shoulder events like a weekend-long fan convention, a Hall of Fame induction ceremony, and three additional arena-sized in-ring wrestling events. WrestleMania weekend is also much more than WWE these days, with numerous unaffiliated independent promotions running shows, making it akin to pro wrestling’s version of South By Southwest. That event, of course, was cancelled by the city of Austin due to coronavirus concerns, leaving the organizers of the official event in a hole since their insurance doesn’t cover disease outbreaks.

>WWE, at least as of this writing, appears to be playing a game of chicken with the local government agencies in and around Tampa, with neither side willing to blink first. Answers were expected to come early Thursday afternoon at a public meeting of the Hillsborough County Emergency Policy Group, but they decided not to cancel anything after learning that WWE had deferred to them on the matter. In the grand scheme of things, WWE will be fine, regardless of what they do: They’re a big company, and even if they have to cancel events, whether part of the WrestleMania festivities or regular week-to-week TV tapings, they have spaces like the WWE Performance Center training facility in Orlando that can host scaled-down TV shows. That’s exactly what they’re doing for the next episode of their SmackDown broadcast, with only “essential personnel” present, in lieu of the originally scheduled arena-size event in Detroit.

>Where things get a lot more complicated and financially perilous is in the realm of independent wrestling. Every year since 2013, an increasing number of independent promoters have run shows in the WrestleMania host city designed to attract out-of-town fans. Some are run individually, and some as part of larger, multi-show hubs, but they’re part of the fabric of the weekend now, and cancelling them would be catastrophic for the independent scene. If you’re an independent wrestler, a spot on one of the bigger shows can be a massive showcase, leading to more fans buying merchandise and more bookings as the year goes on. For some wrestlers, the problem right now is much more acute: They’re able to bank a lot of bookings in a short period of time. Current WWE star Matt Riddle, for example, worked a whopping 11 matches in about two and a half days two years ago in New Orleans. At the upper tier of the independent scene, that amount of booking quickly adds up to a lot of money.

>Staten Island’s Chris Dickinson, who’s been wrestling for over a decade and has made a full-time living at it for the last four years, will be hit as hard as any wrestler would be with cancellations. Not only does he have nine matches booked WrestleMania weekend, but several of them were against prominent Japanese stars. If anyone was going to see their stock increase, it was him.
“This is unfortunately not only financially devastating, as it is the biggest wrestling week of the year, but it’s extremely demoralizing, especially for me,” he told VICE. “I had a lot riding on some of these matches and a lot of eyes on me. This is a time where I could really break through to the next level, and it’s all either going to be postponed or some of these opportunities may never present themselves again.”

>Dickinson places his potential losses in the thousands in booking fees alone. When you factor in not just the larger positive effects on his career but also merchandise sales, which tend to be particularly strong after the kind of showcase matches he’s booked in, the number increases significantly. Speaking more generally, Black Label Pro promoter Michael Blanton, who has two shows scheduled in Tampa, classified a cancellation to VICE as “an astronomical loss” for the wrestlers, comparing it to “a nine-to-fiver being cut from 40 hours to five.”
“This is the indie wrestler’s big bonus that they work all year for,” he added. “Taking this away would take away a huge portion of your yearly take.”

>The potential financial damage can be even bigger for promoters, especially those for whom the weekend is a major undertaking that, while normally lucrative, necessitates a massive financial outlay. One of the key players is New Jersey’s Game Changer Wrestling, which quickly carved out a space after its first ‘Mania weekend show, “Joey Janela’s Spring Break, became the viral hit of the 2017 festivities in Orlando. The following year in Orlando, the sequel drew the biggest independent crowd of the weekend, and last year they broke away from the hub of events hosted by WWN, a WWE affiliate, to start their own, The Collective, a showcase of events from strictly independent promotions. Aside from a few poorly-promoted non-GCW shows, it was a success, and this year, The Collective was booked to encompass a multi-stage venue, The Cuban Club, with some events even overlapping.

>Early Wednesday afternoon, before the world started to end, The Collective tweeted a statement pledging to move forward as planned regardless of what WWE were to decide. But a the other shoes started to drop and fans expressed more concern in the replies, Brett responded at 11:42 pm ET to ask for fans’ patience.
“The reality is that some things are out of our hands,” he said when reached by VICE. “All we can do is wish for the best. Regardless of Thursday's outcome, we will remain in close contact with our fans and do our best to create a positive outcome for everyone involved."

>The other big indie player is Highspots. Started by Michael Bochicchio in Charlotte, North Carolina as a company that sold Mexican luchador masks, Highspots now sells wrestling merchandise, in-ring gear for wrestlers, and wrestling rings for promoters, on top of doing wrestling-related video production. Every year, during WrestleMania weekend, they put on WrestleCon, the biggest wrestling autograph/meet-and-greet show of the year, along with associated wrestling cards. Their signature show is a reliable sellout every year, and they’re a big enough deal to be hosting shows from multiple major promotions this year, but the convention proper is the big draw. Even if someone’s not into indie wrestling, they may very well hit up the convention for autographs, photos, and nostalgia. But attracting those fans is a massive undertaking requiring big money to get big stars: The lineup in New Orleans, for example, included Steve Austin, with ticket packages for his session available to fans for $316.

>A couple of hours after announcing the full card for one of WrestleCon’s in-ring shows, as pressure mounted, Bochicchio tentatively laid out where things stood in a tweet: “Best guess is we either have our events in three weeks as planned or 2020 is cancelled (and refund tickets),” he wrote. “I don't see a scenario where we merely postpone.” A couple of hours after the Hillsborough County meeting, though, Bochicchio tweeted that he was going to wait on a formal WrestleMania decision before making any kind of move towards cancellation.

>Complicating all of this is that neither Lauderdale nor Bochicchio have cancellation insurance on their events, although, as SXSW showed, it probably wouldn’t help if they did. That doesn’t mean there aren’t levels to this: A government-mandated shutdown that would directly affect them—as opposed to WWE calling off WrestleMania and the other WWE events on their own—would at least trigger the force majeure provisions in contracts that allow for refunds to promoters. It wouldn’t be everything, but it would certainly be better for them than if they cancelled without “officially” being forced to. “Better” is relative here, though.
“I’m not kidding, if this is a full cancellation, I’ll likely sell my house,” Bochicchio told VICE. “You can put it on the record, it’s true.”

It's only 3% if you have decent healthcare. If we don't practice some big social distancing the virus will spread too quickly and overwhelm the hospitals. Italy is a good example of this.

Now im not super nazi about it like people on twitter/circlejerk who think literally everything should be canceled and you should only be allowed to open your door once a week for your shipment of MREs, but a gathering of thousands of people should be avoided.

There are people freaking out how UFC/WWE/AEW are "immoral monsters" for putting on shows at all because the skeleton crew and the wrestlers might be exposed. These same people probably ordered a pizza for tonight exposing themselves to the delivery guy and anyone he delivered too

> It should be noted that there were far less people traveling to Tampa this year than at any WrestleMania in several years even before this happened. WrestleMania was still a few thousand tickets shy of being sold out with just weeks to go, but they were going to get close. The legitimate capacity for a sellout was 60,000, even though they were scripting the numbers 90,000 and 80,000 in recent interviews. Even in Santa Clara, where they fell 3,000 shy of a sellout, that was still just 67,000 in the building (59,000 paid). NXT was doing well but not sold out. Smackdown was doing okay. Raw and the Hall of Fame tickets were very disappointing. Very few of the other shows were doing well.

> Highspots owner/Wrestlecon promoter Mike Bochicchio told Wrestling Post: “With all the live events that happen, I don’t think there was going to be a lot of high rewards. Certainly the premiere events, the Joey Janela Spring Breaks, the Bloodsport, our Supershow, those things because we’ve been around a while. I’ll even say Ring of Honor even though I know their tickets were a little off. There’s events that are established and they have a following. Those I think were fine but all these other niche events, including many of ours. I forget the term that we use a lot of times with the stick shows that are just, the Joey Ryan Penis Party or the Ethan Page Body Guy Extravaganza - The ones that are kind of like a tongue-in-cheek show. Those were not doing great in Tampa and I think part of it is because of the over saturation of the live events that were there so, there’s not this great reward on a promoter end like you would think and where there is a great reward and this is who I feel the most pain for is the independent wrestlers. What they make in a given weekend down there is probably six months of regular bookings, and not only is it great for them financially but, people judge the matches that they have that weekend and I think there’s a lot of guys that really elevate their stature from that weekend alone, and it carries them further up the independent chain going forward and then probably putting eyeballs on them for these companies that are issuing these contracts that make life very comfortable.”

1.I hope people look at this as more evidence to the point of "where WWE goes, so goes the entire industry" When WWE is in a decline, it trickles down and causes a decline in a lot of other shows.

2.Had corona not happened, I bet this would have been the year of the indie weekend bubble finally bursting. there were already some cracks last year with stuff like IPW UK drawing 11 fans but I bet some heavily marketed high profile shows this year would also struggle to fill the househausen

Good luck to The Collective cuz I'm not sure people will be flying/booking a hotel to see Texas Forever and D Generation F.

I just got a video from him as an attachment in my email thanking me for a shirt purchase from Pro Wrestling Tees. Guess he did it for every single person that bought a shirt.

I like the dude, he's a good character guy and a guy that found a way to make himself stick out after years being another generic indie "shooter" type guy.

Not necessarily. Yeah there's might be a huge flood of prime talent on the scene but they just got tossed into a market that's been torpedoed. Even the top indie companies are gonna be struggling once this is all over and if given the option I bet they'd rather pay Danhausen $100 than $1000 for Heath Slater.

Yeah, besides, most of the guys who got cut are WWE's Z-list and I doubt they'll be in high demand on the indies (assuming WWE doesn't try to take them back after this all blows over). All the big names will get snagged up by Impact, AEW and MLW. I doubt Zack Ryder or Heath Slater are going to be doing marquee appearances outside of a GCW clusterfuck.

I've no idea why CZW has suddenly decided women's wrestling needs to be promoted the same way it was back in 2002 when the entire rest of the industry has swung in the complete opposite direction

It's especially weird given that CZW broke the mould be not only promoting Lufisto in intergender matches, they even put a title on her (with a bit of help from Kevin Owens)

It's pretty obvious CZW's trying to pull a bait and switch on the Midwesterners and boomers that still use a digital cable box for on-demand PPV porn. They're using names like Top Heavy & Tough and Hair Pulling Catfights to make people think it's sexier than it is (if not assume it's full blown porn).

Believe it or not, cable companies still make a lot of money off people scrolling through their digital cable box for porn.

eh... if ICW had him booked first, its generally not a good look to back out of the booking. Also, its the 3rd ICW show that Dickinson has backed out of (all for different extenuating circumstances) so I can understand why they think they can't rely on him. And Dickinson has had a "temperamental" rep for years.

Its odd that GCW would decide to go head to head with ICW on a date they already advertised. Just because GCW is cool it doesn't mean they're incapable of a wrong move.

Backyard Wrestling happened once, its not a years-long tradition. And its only in the last couple of weeks that outdoor wrestling shows in NJ became possible.

Considering Brett Lauderale and Danny Demanto work behind the scenes together they must have had a conversation about July 4th and what was and wasn't possible. Obviously someone decided to run head to head against the other.
but none of us know what happened behind the scenes all we can do is go off what has been publicly announced. And all that's publicly announced is that ICW had the date first. We'll have to wait for more info to be revealed before daming ICW.

the promotions arent really that big that running same day could hurt each other other than if they were running same town or one town over, like, ICW doesnt draw 2000 on every show and neither does GCW really so if theyre far enough apart running "head to head" makes sense, especially if its the 4th. Americans are gonna want some shit to do and live rasslin on 'merica day is probly as eastern seaboard as you can get

Both shows will have limited crowd sizes because of COVID. also Backyard Wrestling is going to be an invite-only b/c its on private property while ICW is a drive-in show - and is already sold out before GCW put their tickets on sale.

ICW is in Atlantic City and on IWTV, not sure where Backyard will be but it will air on FITE.
The only way they're "head to head" is in terms of shared talent but ICW's show was going to be more deathmatch focused (so don't expect an Alex Zayne) and it starts at 8pm.

Given that Backyard was a daytime show last year and likely would be in the afternoon this year, it's entirely possible that double-booking would only affect a few talents who could work things out about making both shows. Like Nick Gage for example.

This could just be Dickinson not wanting to figure out how to work both shows.

If someone has actual wrestling biz experience and wants to weigh in that would be great, but my understanding is you always honor the booking you had first. Unless GCW is running at the exact same starting time and paid him more to work their show, I don't hold it against ICW for dropping a guy who has canceled on them 3 times.

>Sad news from the US indie scene as longtime Midwest indie wrestler Adam Bueller has passed away following a second battle against cancer. He was 36 years old. A GoFundMe has been organized to help his family, including his children, during this hard time - https://www.gofundme.com/f/21k2fumpyo.

>Originally from Lewisburg, Ohio, Adam Bueller was trained by former TNA/IMPACT star Shark Boy and made his wrestling debut in 2004. He got his start in the Indiana region, where he would relocate, working with Extreme Wrestling Federation (EWF) where he was originally known as Sikness.

>In 2007, he debuted with Indiana’s Underground Championship Wrestling (UCW), which soon became NWA Underground. The company went under several name changes over the years, to Pro Wrestling ZERO1 USA Underground (2012), Ultimate Championship Wrestling (2012-2013), and finally Pro Wrestling King (PWK), but Bueller remained a fixture in the company throughout his entire career.

>Adam Bueller would also work various other Midwest promotions, such as Dan Severn‘s Price of Glory (PoG) in Coldwater, Michigan, and IWA Mid South (competing in the 2015 IWA-MS King of the Deathmatches Tournament), as well as West Virginia’s Vicous Outcast Wrestling (VOW). He was a former PWK King Online Michiana Champion, NWA Underground Champion, and PoG Tag Team Champion with Jamie Eternal in the tag team Sick & Twisted.

>Adam Bueller had beaten cancer once before and was documenting this current battle with cancer in an effort to beat it for a second time. Unfortunately for all, cancer prevailed in its return and Adam Bueller passed away at the age of 36.

ATTACK! is the next promotion to be affected by #SpeakingOut:

>On Wednesday, UK indie staple ATTACK! Pro Wrestling, which runs shows in England and Wales, announced they were going on an indefinite hiatus to restructure its team amidst the recent #SpeakingOut movement to better the company’s working environment for future wrestlers. ATTACK! is owned by noted UK stars Pete Dunne and Mark Andrews of WWE and indie star Chris Brookes.

>“In light of allegations made about many wrestlers across the UK scene, and on the ATTACK! roster specifically, it is clear that massive structural changes are required in the wrestling industry before events can safely run again,” the company stated in a statement. “As such, we are going to take an indefinite hiatus from running events, and don’t plan to return until we can ensure the necessary changes have been made.”

>ATTACK! was founded in 2011 by Pete Dunne and training mate Jim Lee and has held events primarily in Cardiff, Wales, although they have also run events in English cities like London, Bristol, and Cheltenham. Pete Dunne has been a strong advocate for change in the UK indie scene since the #SpeakingOut movement began and is using his influence to help implement change within the entire scene itself.

I dunno if that's fair to ICWNHB (not to be confused with that Irish promotion) since rather than try to offer a more diverse and branched-out product like GCW is pivoting towards, ICWNHB is fixating on doing one thing and doing it really really well.

Either way it's kind of a moot point because the more prolific NJ independent promotions we get the quicker CZW can just fucking die already
Mio Shirai - Sat, 11 Jul 2020 16:48:54 EST bWZ+YR1t No.6418328 Reply
Fair enough. CZW has lasted way past the point of needing a CZW around.

And I have enjoyed the ICW shows on IWTV and not having to pay more for them or rely on a /wooo/ stream like I do for GCW. But their whole Twitter beef with Dickinson and retweeting posts calling him a douchebag was lame as hell. Especially when it clearly came off like they were biting off GCW's July 4th weekend even though a few guys made it to both.

Yeah that was lame as fuck to air out all that dirty laundry on twitter. Definitely made ICW look like whiny carnies. With that said though, their shows have delivered a lot more than I thought they would.

With that said, there is very little reason for CZW to still exist with GCW, ICW NHB and H2O all consistently putting on quality shows.

Dickinson wanting to show loyalty to GCW by making sure he made Backyard Wrestling and not being willing to commit to the July 4th show just because he's booked on the previous show makes perfect sense.

Elisar Cabrera, who was a co-owner of the former British indie promotion FWA, passed away after a four year battle with cancer:

>Elisar Cabrera, an independent film producer from London, England and best remembered by the wrestling community as one of the owners of Frontier Wrestling Alliance (FWA) from 1999 to 2007 passed away on Monday following a four-year battle with cancer. He had just turned 49 years old this past May.

>FWA originally started in 1993 as Fratton Wrestling Association, founded by Mark Sloan, but it was when Cabrera joined Sloan as a co-owner in 1999, rebranding at Frontier Wrestling Association, that FWA began to make big moves in the UK indie scene. Up until that time, indie wrestling in the United Kingdom was very much secluded to the small venues, still recovering from the void created when World of Sport Wrestling ended back in 1985. The addition of a film producer like Cabrera to the ownership opened up new production that the UK indies hadn’t seen before and soon FWA became the only UK indie to have a television program. Early stars like Jody Fleisch, Doug Williams, Robbie Brookside, La Familia (Alex Castano & Jorge Castano), Five Star Flash, Zebra Kid (Roy Knight), and others helped bring a return to the excitement for UK indie wrestling fans, as well as bringing in North American imports like AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Chris Hamrick, Sabu, and Jerry Lynn.

>As the promotion grew in stature, they began to showcase more of the rising stars in the UK scene, like Rampage Brown, Paul Burchill, Rockstar Spud, and others. The rise of FWA throughout the early 2000s helped create the blueprint that led to the formation of new promotions like International Pro Wrestling (IPW:UK, 2004), Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW, 2006), New Generation Wrestling (NGW, 2008), Fight Club: PRO (2009), Preston City Wrestling (PCW, 2011), Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro, 2012), PROGRESS Wrestling (2012), and countless others.

>The influence of Elisar Cabrera in the UK indie scene was instrumental in getting indie wrestling to as many eyes as possible, and his love of film production expanded far beyond pro wrestling. In 1992, he founded the Raindance Web Fest, the UK’s first festival for independent digital and web series, which celebrates their 28th edition this fall. He’s also produced countless feature films and TV series in the UK, including Zombie Spring Breakers (2016), 3some (2013), Talking Who (2012), and many more.

Drew Cordeiro has been setting up a feud between himself and the"Meme Crew" (Danhausen, Warhorse, Allie Kat, Dan The Dad, and Effy) for the last few weeks and I suspect Steven's will show up as one of his hired guns. Makes sense, now that David Starr is gone Steven's is the next best "straight laced wrestler" Beyond has.

warhorse is the biggest name
and the cherry on top is they're going to do this in the midst of a pandemic.

midwest indie promoters were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.

Arachnaman - Wed, 05 Aug 2020 09:31:51 EST Nwp9fWmA No.6427839 Reply
first off: with the exception of maybe Warhorse & Yehi, these guys will not blow up in a year and be signed to NXT or AEW. (Beside Yehi is a better fit for ROH and mmmmaybe Ethan Page politics to get the Besties in the World into Impact)

second of all: I already outlined why this tournament is everything I don't like about the indies. The talent is secondary to the bigger problems with the indies right now: its a very shallow pool. And there's a few scenes that are guilty of navel gazing.
It's the same pasty-white skinny-fat dudes with no muscle definition and shitty punk rock tattoos having "strong style" spotfests with the same handful of buddies they always work, on shows that are littered with inside-joke gimmick names. And then afterward they spend more time chasing GIF clout from a handful of twitter followers.
Very little effort is put in toward crowd work or promos or even interesting video production.

For the amount of money & effort that SLA are putting into a 24 man round robin tournament (in the middle of a pandemic), they would be better served to spend their money on one or two TV veterans (from WWE, from Impact/TNA, from ROH, even from WCW or ECW) and book a tight 8 match card.

The problem is too many indies just book all their buddies and then indie wrestlers are not tested to go out and apply themselves.
guys like D Bry and Chris Hero (and even Joey Janela in modern times) didn't stay content with working one scene. They paid their dues, hit the road, traveled and tried to work as many different locales with as many different veterans as possible to gain as much performing experience as possible.

Not saying this to be a dick, but I'm genuinely curious: You've seen the work of all the guys in this tournament? If so, are they really all that cookie-cutter?
Arachnaman - Wed, 05 Aug 2020 10:29:14 EST Nwp9fWmA No.6427858 Reply
no i haven't seen all of them, but I've seen a bunch of these names thru various midwest shows I checked out on IWTV like Anarchy, Glory Pro, and Bizarro Lucha. I ultimately canceled my subscription bc there was just too much same-ness in characters, wrestling style and show presentation. (The only thing that is appealing to me about IWTV is the lucha, japanese and very early 2000/2001 indie stuff they have)

And again, it's not so much a gripe with this specific batch of talent. I'd say there's a lot of the indie scene that's guilty of putting on shows to give bookings to their wrestler friends.
That's fine, they can do what they want with their money.... but that's boring to me as a potential ticket buyer. I'm much rather entertained by tighter shows that don't run longer than 3 hours and can be the "international waters" of wrestling where TV talents and former TV talents can do fun stuff with names that are breaking out.

More than that, what annoys me about this show is they're attempting to run it during a pandemic. Personally speaking, I'm skeeved out by any wrestling show BUT there are ways to do it as safely as possible (like running outdoors, doing drive-in shows, not being shy about wearing masks - props to Ace Austin for working his GCW match with a mask). In the COVID era, we don't need to have so many scrambles and multi-mans and a 24 man tourney is a little self indulgent. And it's not even like these guys are going to be getting paid *that much*.
IMO these circumstances should be forcing innovation and forcing the indies to think of new ways to put on entertaining shows that are safe for fans & wrestlers.
And this just feels like doing more of the one thing they know how to do: workrate tournaments with guys who don't have the crowd control experience.

>In what fucking world does it make sense to not book a 24 man round robin tournament
the world where there's a global pandemic currently raging and wrestling promotions should be doing their best to minimize risk of exposure? Even lucha is cutting down on multi-man activities and shorter cards. 24 wrestlers traveling from all over the midwest to work a tournament spread out over multiple weeks is increasing risk for (in my OPINION) not a lot of reward. NJPW is taking more precautions with smaller tournaments.

>some of the best hungry unsigned workers
i don't see nick gage or effy or or alex zayne or tony deppen or matthew justice or (if mlw doesn't count) mance warner or Hammerstone.

>instead book a fucking one-off appearance by someone who used to work for WWE.
Speaking as a fan, Warhorse vs Mat Fitchett, doesn't interest me.
However, Warhorse vs Gangrel or vs Fallah Bah or vs Stephan Bonnar or vs Raven or vs Ricky Morton are all more interesting to me. I think wrestling works best when there's variety. And I independent wrestlers benefit more from working with veterans that have variety. I think Warhorse would learn more from working with a WWE veteran than working with Moonshine Mantell.

If there wasn't a pandemic, I probably wouldn't bat an eye at this. Indies have struggled with this "give everyone a spot" mentality and that leads to shitty scrambles and big boring tournaments.
But maybe not everyone deserves a spot on the card while it's not responsible or safe to be putting on big shows like this. I'm sorry that indie wrestlers are losing out on paydays and in-ring experience... but the world isn't fair.

And if someone were to book Ricky Morton in 2020, why not just stick him & Gibson in a tag match against a team that could use the experience of working with RNR? And tbh, I wouldn't be booking older dudes like Gangrel/Raven/Morton to work during a pandemic anyways
Arachnaman - Wed, 05 Aug 2020 18:04:12 EST Nwp9fWmA No.6428059 Reply
oh yeah, during a pandemic: no old guys on the indies.
But during normal times, there's nothing wrong with WarHausen vs The RnR Express. And I'd rather see that than WarHausen vs Besties. Hell, Besties vs RnR would be their biggest chance to prove themselves.

Mostly, I was just throwing out a variety of names. Talents from WWE, WCW, ECW, and TNA still have a lot to offer. And technically Impact and MLW talents can still work indies too.

Even before Covid, the indies were in a rebuilding phase and they should utilize as many veterans with TV experience as possible. That knowledge need to be passed down.

That's cool that ECWA's video library will be on IWTV and this year's Super 8 will be live for the first time. Super 8 is the OG indie wrestling tournament.

And it looks like they'll be running from the same venue as GCW. Should hopefully be on Fite.

I don't recognize anyone in this photo besides reckless youth and Billy Kidman

in between Youth and Kidman is Simon Diamond. Diamond brought Dawn Marie into the business thru ECWA

The guy in the middle of the top row is Devon Storm aka Crowbar. To his left is Ace Darling, his tag team partner. Before Storm became Crowbar, he & Darling worked tag matches in ECW, WCW and WWF's light heavyweight division.

The guy to the right of Crowbar is Inferno Kid. He did eventually get a WWE Developmental run as "Danny Inferno" but it was in Bill DeMott's Deep South (the place that Kenny Omega quit for being a shitshow) so it wasn't a fair shot.
He was featured in the National Geographic documentary that chronicled a young DJ Z trying to get signed and documented Inferno attempting a comeback: http://natgeotv.com/int/slammed-inside-indie-wrestling/videos/danny-inferno

Far left is Ravishing Ronny, who didn't really stick around much longer.
Far right is the Cheetah Master, ECWA's Ace of the late 90s.

ECWA has been around since the late 60s and had a quasi-"developmental" relationship with WWF in the late 90s when all they had was the Funkin Dojo. It was similar to their deals with ECW and the USWA.

Mankind, Kurt Angle, Bob Backlund, D-lo Brown, Flash Funk, Cornette, Gillberg, the Headbangers, Goldust, Mean Street Posse, Dr Death, Truth Commission all worked ECWA shows during the MNWs and they always relied on a steady stream of 80s guest stars like King Kong Bundy, Snuka, Honky Tonk Man and George the Animal Steele.

Christian was even the ECWA champ while simultaneously being the WWF Light Heavyweight champ.

Youth got lucked for WWF's first developmental territory in Memphis in 2000 and he's probably the first indie standout whose spirit they crushed.
Then when WWF closed down Memphis, Bryan Danielson went to ECWA and worked a bunch of shows with Low Ki and Christopher Daniels just before ROH became a thing. ROH was basically "Super 8: The Promotion"

Dasher Hatfield is a very good professional wrestler so he should carry Warhorse to a good match.

Imagine being so deathly afraid of AEW that you sign a fat guy that thinks serial killers are amazing just so that he doesn't go to AEW.

I imagine they're gonna have to edit out the entrances or dub them over due to licensing issues. It's interesting that they're finally putting indie wrestling in their library but I don't see it being that big of a draw compared to IWTV or even Impact Plus for indie wrestling.

Either SHLAK, RSP or perhaps Eric Ryan. SHLAK seems like the obvious choice but I wouldn't mind RSP or Ryan winning.

I'm probably late on this but I noticed he can call himself Gangrel again. Weren't the rights with wwe and he had to use the name "Vampire Warrior" for a time?

Technically, the rights weren't with WWE, so much as they were with White Wolf Inc. I think. It's complicated.

Didn't the WWE license the name "Gangrel" from Magic: The Gathering or something?

Wouldn't Brujah be a more fitting name for a Vampire: The Masquerade-themed wrestler?

I'd imagine because Bruja is a spanish word for Witch, and they don't want their vampire confused for a witch.

The first two entrants for BLP's Turbo Graps 16 tournament have been announced. If there's no BOLA, then this could probably end up as being the biggest indie wrestling tournament in the US this year.
