So Vampiro a few weeks ago in an interview with Chris Van Vleit said this:
https://411mania.com/wrestling/vampiro-says-lucha-underground-paved-the-way-for-aew-discusses-why-lucha-underground-failed/

>I can unofficially say, officially yeah [it’s done]. I mean, wouldn’t you? 90% of the roster is in AEW and the other 10% is in the WWE. The writers are gone, the production crew is gone, the company is split. I would pretty much put my money on it’s over and done with, yeah.”

Lets honor LU by sharing our favorite memories and matches. What was your favorite memory/match/segment in LU and what will you miss about it?

I wish Tony Khan would buy out the rights and resurrect it. But Cuerno and Mundo are in WWE and a few players are scattered around other non AEW TV wrestling shows.

But yeah, it was my favorite wrestling product when it was around. Those first two seasons were some of my favorite television ever. Season Four changed a lot around but had its moments. I miss it so much.

One thing I wanted more than anything was to go to a Lucha Underground branded show. Living on the opposite coast as the Temple, the only thing I got to experience live was a panel at NYCC. So much fun but so much stuff that never panned out. ;_;

I think I only watched the first two seasons but I don't even remember why I stopped. Shit was amazing at least up until that point I don't know what happened after Dario got out of jail and found a new temple.

It was really nice to see the growth too. At first the temple was half empty full of people who clearly weren't really wrestling fans but on the next set of tapings the place became full and everybody was extra enthusiastic. The energy became next level after that.

Dario Cueto realest nigga alive.

There isn't anything that comes close to it (Maybe Wrestling Society X, but not really) and it's going to stay that way for the foreseeable future. I really liked how deeply rooted it was in latin/mexican history and culture. It's even deep and varied enough to justify a rewatch, something I rarely do. Season 4 deserves more credit but most people had already dropped it at that point (at least around here). Sure, there are some dumb things and straight-up bad matches overall but they deserve credit, nonetheless. I always found it hilarious that the decision making was largely done by tv people (aided by Chavo Guerrero on the booking side) and even they knew instinctively that you shouldn't give Ricochet a mic.

Good Lucha things:
-Ivelisse, Son of Havoc and Angelico chasing and winning the Trios championship
-Everything Mil Muertes and Catrina
-Vapiro and Pentagon
-the Big Ryck and Konnan deaths
-The gimmick matches (the one where they had the bar set up was fun)
-Aerostar transforming into a rocket, travelling through time

They also started using too many U.S. indy guys. After a while it pretty much just became PWG with a TV deal.

The best part about Lucha Underground is that it some people got the best booking OF THEIR ENTIRE CAREERS thanks to this company.

Ricochet was turned into a masked wrestler that never talked, and he managed to get over from both in-ring and storylines, something he can't do to this day

Mil Muertes went from Ricky fucking Banderas and Judas Mesias, to an unstoppable death god that, thanks to the booking, hid the fact he wasn't a very good wrestler.

Pentagon Jr. has his entire career to thank to LU, and to this day he still isn't as compelling as when he was basically one of the main characters of LU

Fenix, Son of Havoc, Brian Cage, even Rey Mysterio got a huge bump from being on LU, at a time where people thought he was done for due to his knees.

EVEN MATT STRIKER managed to salvage a bit of his career being on this and not being total shit (in my eyes at least, I know others still don't like him)

But yeah, this show 100% made a lot of people's careers, and that's why it's so important to wrestling history.

This is what the "What happened to Lucha Underground?!" crowd doesn't get. LU was never a traditional wrestling promotion, it was a television show first and foremost. If most of the cast of The Big Bang Theory ended up starring in other shows, and all the writers and producers ended up on different projects, no one would be saying "Why isn't there more Big Bang Theory?!" The show is over, that's it.

I remember when this was first announced they were describing it as similar to Power Rangers, probably referring to how there were the Spanish and English language versions with some slightly different content in S1
I was expecting a couple of random jobbers cutting English promos then putting on their Drago and Aerostar masks then they'd rerun an old AAA match and pretend it was new.

it was really fun seeing LU go from zero to batshit over the course of the first season. Season 2 started strong with the joke of Ian's abilify dose something like 40 times the normal prescription
also I liked how the early episodes include instructions on how to find out if you have El Rey as they expected you to get it online

Mil Muertes will always be a great example of what booking and a gimmick can do for somebody

That's true. It's tragic that the thing that made the show unique was what killed it, since the contracts were too restrictive for wrestlers, the season format left many people with nothing for months and the inexperience in dealing with talent seems to have lead to sour relationships.

But really, if any, ANY company can bring back Cueto and Mil, I'm sold.

It would end with a bloody multi-man match for the LU title that nobody, not even the winner, survives, and then a spotlight on a blood soaked Dario Cueto gripping the decapitated head of Wade Barrett as he says the final lines "My name is Dario Cueto, and I love violence".

I don't think the spoilers did as much damage as this place thinks they did tbf.

The real damage of the increasingly-long season breaks was "out of sight, out of mind." With no weekly episodes prompting news & conversation, no alternative ways to stream/binge reruns and talents moving on, it really conditioned fans to move on.

LU made casket matches good. GRAVE CONSEQUENCES (the first one) is still the best casket match ever, which I know isn't saying much, but still.

Also: HELL OF WAR.

That Grave Consequences match between Fenix and Mil Muertes fucking ruled. Shit season 1 was really awesome and a lot of fun watching in the tube especially the lore scenes.

Well we have been looking for a tube block to air on Fridays so that wouldn’t be a bad idea if we can get all the episodes.

Nothing will ever give me the level of joy that calling the vampiro "swerve" did again.
It was pure "I saw this coming from episode 3" gold and I was so validated. It was so fucking obvious that it couldnt have been true. It originally being written with a different character as the master helped the feeling that it had to be anyone except vampiro.

That whole show fucking ruled. Dario Cueto for evil promoter of the decade
And big F for pro wrestlings cinematic savior Lucha Underground.

Ninjas, Sexy Star post Mariposa feud, piped crowd noises like Smackdown was guilty of, and giving famous people like Danny Trejo a front row seat when the tickets were already sold out, and didn't offer a refund to the people that got snubbed.

just saw this post and i wanna answer some of the dumb misinformation in it

i was at the danny trejo taping. lu tapes two episodes in one day, so the dude only stayed for the first half. nobody at the taping cared because 1) they immediately gave his posse's front row spots away to people on the standing room balcony (my buddy literally sat in danny trejos chair and wouldnt shut up about having made contact with danny trejos ass) and 2) you dont just show up at the front door and wait around til they assign tickets retard lu released flyers months in advance with dates, and if you wanted tickets, you had to send them an email with basic info like which dates you wanted to attend, party size etc etc etc. in fact, they would regularly allow people who didnt preregister to walk up to the front and attend, as cancellations or noshows were common and they had a standing balcony to fill

only point that is somewhat valid is the piped crowd noises, which werent wwe-esque canned crowed audio through speakers (lu had no speaker system onsite, therefore no entrance music, and all melissa santos/dario cueto/promo audio was barely heard because they werent miced up to any speakers)
it was more like editing, which is the nature of an edited television show like lu. they would edit crowd reactions by changing them to different times, which changes the context of the crowd reaction to something other than what was originally reacted to

The wildest thing about LU to me will always be Shane Strickland and AR Fox having an uncut deathmatch on cable television.

Famous B and his whole shtick was one of my favourite things in LU and thats saying a lot, loved almost all of it. Pretty incredible that him and Dario among others havent become regulars at other promotions by now.
