I've been out of the NJPW loop for a while; EVIL is now the leader of BC, IC champ and IWGP champ?

Isn't it a kind of weird time to be doing such a megapush of a guy?

Technically Jay White is still leader, but since he can't be around thanks to COVID-19, EVIL's taking reigns of Bullet Club. And yes.

>Isn't it a kind of weird time to be doing such a megapush of a guy?
Nah, because EVERYTHING IS EVIL

Also in case it's not obvious this is intended to be a general thread as it makes good sense rather than making weekly star rating threads that get forgotten about quickly.

The Ebirru push has been pretty shit so far, but in a way it's the perfect time to try something like that.

Might as well see if you can get a new guy to that top level during the only time you're not going to have to worry about selling out buildings etc.

I suggested to OP to move star ratings out of the Dirtsheet thread because for months it kept leading to arguments over the validity of the ratings, arguments that distracted and blotted out news stories. People were complaining quite a lot about that discussion "ruining" the news thread, so this is an attempt at a solution instead of a status quo that was leaving many unhappy.

If you don't want to take part or view this thread, you can hide it, simple as that. Also if you had a view on this matter, it would have been helped to speak up when this action was discussed in the last dirtsheet thread. If you want to see star ratings from people other than Meltzer, there's nothing stopping you from adding them. There's also nothing stopping you adding your own star ratings. Users used to post their own star ratings is separate star ratings threads all the time back in the day.

>Also if you had a view on this matter, it would have been helped to speak up when this action was discussed in the last dirtsheet thread.

I suggested that we have a star ratings general where we could have star ratings from different people, especially from /wooo/kies. Not sure I think we need another thread with an advert for f4w in the OP though..just my opinion.

I don't really care for yet another dave meltzer general though. 20 years ago, you might have looked at his ratings as a good guide to finding new matches, nowadays they are so erratic and so limited you might as well throw darts at a board. It's pretty well documented that he has a bias for his friends and the very specific style he likes and his claim to be objective not to mention the ludicrous claim that he doesn't rate matches high because he likes them is just slowly eating away at his credibility.

Of course many people see him as some respected figure and it's difficult not to be frustrated when he gives a match you loved a low ratings, simply because you know that his view carries a lot of weight in the industry and in many cases he can literally make a wrestler's career with a decent rating.

I think in general, wrestling is in desperate need of more people with different opinions and for fans to accept that there is more than one way for wrestling to be good. I'm always interested to know what fans thought of a match, either in words or in star ratings. I know there is grapplr and cagematch for that, but I'd like to see /wooo/kies posting their star ratings too, we don't even need a star thread, just do it in gamethreads. I'm never going to watch a match because meltzer recommended it, his ideology of wrestling is so weird imo; but I think many people here would check out something if a fellow board user said it was a must-see.

McIntyre/Ziggler at Extreme Rules got 4* I don't get why people insist Meltz just rates The Young Bucks really high and shits on everyone else. That match won't even be remembered by this time next month.

Hiromu’s performance - 6*
The match - 2*

Does anybody actually enjoy watching ‘heel is obviously going to have interference to win’ booking?
I don’t mind when there’s sometimes interference, but to use this match as an example how can you get invested in a match when you know it’s not ending until Dick Togo interferes? Even when Hiromu hit the Time Bomb 2, it’s obviously not the finish since all Togo has done is grab his leg a few times.
Contrast it with Suzuki, sometimes there’s SZKG interference and sometimes there’s not, or Eita who often has RED interference but there’s events like KoG that he has them there ringside but they’re not involved in every match

The /wooo/trion Collection tried something like that and engagement took a nosedive after the first several, from memory. Looking back at it though it is a lot of Big Dave five star classics and the standard popular/historically significant matches. I guess those are the kinds of matches you can get a consensus on but the concept of a /wooo/ collection of great/fun matches that doesn't just become a regurgitation of Meltzer's 5 and 6 star match list is not a bad one.

>The /wooo/trion Collection tried something like that and engagement took a nosedive after the first several, from memory

Part of the problem with the /wooo/trio collection was that the guy running it ran it every single week, instead of doing it once a month or once every two weeks. If there were several nominations in a week, and you hadn't ever seen any of them, in order to actually consider all the noms, you'd need to watch like 2 hours of wrestling in that week. Now, in some cases, people would have already have seen the match, or seen it over the course of previous week's noms, and that cut down the times, but still. Others would just watch some noms but not others.

Regardless, that heavy schedule burned people out and the regulars dwindled. Between that and the issues Taimapedia had, that's why it went away.

There's a chance taimapedia is coming back and if it does, I'd like to see /wooo/terion collection come back, but with an easier schedule that doesn't burn people out.

I think that there needs to be some sort of criteria stopping the same matches getting nominated too. A lot of those /wooo/terion collection matches were almost brute forced in, nominated at every eligibility until they finally had weak enough competition to pass through. That AJ Styles vs Abyss match immediately comes to mind, to the point where it even almost got into the Disasterpiece collection.

Surprisingly Disasterpiece turfed out faster than woooterion. Probably because all the really bad matches made it in fast and afterwards entries had maybe a combined 8 votes or so from lack of participation

The people running the woooterion were doing a great job, but yes it was too much and I think it more stricter rules about recentism and promotional bias. I think it was like a 2 year rule maybe? Which was still, in my mind too recent. I'd say you need at least 5 years for a match to ripen and see if it holds up, because otherwise you just get people nominating their fanboy favourites. Same thing with promotions. I think the rule was if a promotion gets nominated it can't be nominated the next week, but that still didn't stop there from being loads of wwe matches.
