Those guys owe their massive success and wealth to WWE. Cena drank the Vince Kool-aid over a decade ago and Roman's entire family is part of the WWE machine. On top of that, Roman just implied he might only have a year or two left in him and I doubt we'll see Cena wrestle full time ever again.

If AEW even managed to get them, I don't even know what they'd do. Honestly the only thing I would want AEW to do with John is have him work with Punk one last time.

Very bad number. but then people on the east coast are still getting out of work. I get out at 4:30. I barely made the start of the show and had to make dinner while it was on. I think 7PM is the best timeslot for Rampage. Just after dinner. before Smackdown. They need to start loading it up so it feels like as necessary to watch as Dynamiter. Rather than the filler it is now.

This week’s episode was one of the strongest I’ve seen for Rampage, and the numbers are not changing that fact.

There's really no reason to not renew it. It's essentially just an additional show that TNT/TBS get as a bonus with Dynamite. 90% of the time it's production costs are going to be minimal thanks to being filmed alongside Dynamite anyway and it's almost essential to have in order to give a bit of breathing room to the roster.

For TNT, nothing else in it's 10pm slot is going to crack the ratings chart anyway.

The time slot did the damage on that one. A large portion of the US was not available to watch it, if they even knew it was on at that time.

The card also wasn't a good looking one. A women's tag match, another women's match with two people who haven't been around in a while and a final match with a midcarder and a Japanese wrestler that got no build and is someone nobody in the US really knows.

Rampage has been declining since its debut. Even without the NBA its currently down to 500k with no signs of stopping, although maybe this 292k number is where the floor is at.

I don't know if they'll take it off the air, but given this performance it seems doubtful Tony will be getting a better deal when he renews the TV contract in 6 months or so. And I imagine thats when we'll find out just how much he cares about losing millions and millions of dollars on AEW every year.

Again, at least try not being so obvious in your attempts to deflate them.

> Declining since it’s debut
> Since its debut
First rating ever was about 750k.
Second was CM PUNK’s official return, and debut in AEW.
On their B show.

Brought them to 1.1m just .3 shy of WWE Raw’s numbers earlier this year.
Admittedly, they did maintain somewhere between 400k-600k for awhile, occasionally stepping back into that original 700k debut range, but they’ve had randoms in the 900k bracket again, too.

I doubt this impacts them hardly.
> No signs of stopping
lol it was 1 episode dude, at a way different time slot, and not everyone was expecting the change in time nor aware of that. Watch them snap back like nothing.

also another thing is it's like almost midnight in japan right now and kota has spent like the last 5 hours making vague tweets about njpw, sexual harassment, being (presumably) forced to return early to work through injury before WK. unless kota has reached the final level of inokism, i don't think this is a work and he is actually trying to get himself fired

Bischoff's totally right about this. AEW does really good wrestling. They've got that part down. But they drop the ball so unbelievably fucking hard when it comes to storytelling and that's what's holding them back. They can temporarily convince a lot of casual fans to tune in, like when CM Punk debuted, but the casuals immediately walk away when they see the overall storytelling quality is so poor. If Tony wants AEW to grow then he needs to listen to Bischoff and tell a multitude of good, compelling stories on a consistent basis.

If Ibushi is willing to walk from NJPW and make some serious accusations, there's either something legitimately fucked going on or Kota's finally lost his mind completely. The sad part is that the truth might be both.

>>6636626
It's more inconsistency than a lack of any quality. You have killer angles like Punk/MJF, YUTA joining BCC, and Wardlow's face turn, but then you have Sammy flopping so hard as a face you have to double turn him and Scorpio, Cole sapping the relevancy away from Hangman for two months, and fucking up pretty much all women's storylines that don't involve Britt or Jade.

There's nothing weird about it. He got injured and elected to just take time off and heal properly instead of getting surgery and rushing back. NJPW tried forcing his hand by booking him in the New Japan Cup without telling them which irritated him, causing him to basically say that nobody told him about this and forcing them to back off. Then he showed up at a JTO show without asking for permission from the office which caused them to bitch him out and sort of passive aggressively threaten to fire him.

It seems like he's burned out and unhappy with NJPW management and trying to force him to rush back from injury was the last straw. They might be trying to play hardball with him so his mindset is probably "fuck that" since his family is wealthy and he doesn't really need wrestling. That said, I don't doubt he's also playing it up since Sakaguchi and a few other DDT guys were tweeting like they weren't surprised by this and there's likely a reason he didn't get a big send off when leaving DDT.

So you have a presumably shitty front office who's gone out of their way to piss off a drama queen and this is the end result.

I thought Kota's DDT sendoff was Golden Lovers putting Takeshita & Endo over?
Regardless, I would totally believe that Ibushi's weird enough to rub people backstage the wrong way very easily (it was funny when he didn't know who Vince was when he worked WWE but if that was extrapolated to him backstage anywhere it might not be as charming) so him taking a dispute and blowing it up publicly would track. I wonder how much this has thrown off booking plans for the year.

Bischoff has every right to be mad. Tony Khan keeps making baffling mistakes like debuting Satnam Singh in a lights out segment or booking a completely heatless women's match as the main event or having Mox and Danielson waste their time fighting jobbers. Bischoff could add a fuckton of polish to AEW but TK would rather reject his help and keep screwing up while AEW grows stale and its problems become increasingly obvious.

They're actually both mostly right.

WCW had broad mainstream appeal, so it didn't need to cater to "hardcore" fans, but it did need to stop doing everything else the guy listed.

And Bischoff is right that AEW's booking needs to be more coherent and consistent to grow its audience, but the AEW fans pop for serious shit and goofy shit alike, they're basically down for anything. I think the only consistency here is that these are the fans who can't stomach WWE's 20mins of promos and recaps during each hour of wrestling in-between the commercial breaks.... well that and the overly scripted writer's guild dog shit presentation of everything.

The best RAW last year was the one where most of the writers were out with COVID that week.

Goku isn't even as popular as THE news authority and what you say you like money to just drop it to 65 and he complained about any criticism of the roster in a shitty businessman unlike you who throw their game, why can't anyone tell you the kind of corporate branding attempt at a very merry wrestling season with the video content remotely leading to a couple aspects that AEW has to deal with some fresh feuds starting.

If a company has a reputation for putting on great matches on TV, then people who want to see great matches will tune in. Stories hook people long-term but old guys with podcasts somehow seem to forget that pro wrestling needs good wrestling matches to be good, no matter what style of match it is they're working.

Also "would draw better" is hilarious given that he did that on an episode of Impact going head to head with Raw in the early 2010s. The era where TNA got diminishing returns off of Hogan being there and then slumped back down to where they were (and lower).

So are we supposed to want promotions to stop doing what we like because it might not draw as much? I used to be in love with GCW, then they started to pivot away from deathmatch stuff into RoH-lite and fell out of love. Am I supposed to cheer the fact that GCW stopped being as appealing to me as ICWNHB or NPU or even XPW?

WWE or AEW are not going out of business anytime soon. So I care about wrestling and want to talk about whether it's good or not, not pretending to be knowledgable about the TV industry.

You seriously need to stop "loving" companies, it is not a healthy mindset to have.

Exactly.

I'm a fan not a shareholder. They aren't going out of business anytime soon. People who obsess over TV ratings and financials of companies they "love" are the most boring cunts on the planet.

Seriously, imagine going down the pub and your mate says "Hey did you watch Better Call Saul last night? I loved that scene where Saul tricked the bad guy", and some boring fuck comes out with "erm well actually it only scored a 0.3987 on the key demo, I think they need to cool back on the swearing and violence to appeal to a broader audience".

More than just army in this case if you believe VOW:

>“Cheaters-gun” refers to Kikuchi, TAKA, and Taichi, all of whom Ibushi has heat with.

>The first instance of Ibushi and Kikuchi having heat goes all the way back to 2018 when the former felt the latter wasn’t paying him fair merch royalties

>Kikuchi’s contract was not renewed in 2019 due to above and also included “marital affairs” involving Kikuchi’s wife.

>Kikuchi was eventually brought back in 2020 after Dick Togo gained more power in the booking committee. At this point in time, Kikuchi is in charge of talent relations.

>In regards to booking, Kikuchi has been involved in creative ideas, but as in a similar position to Togo, all ideas need finalization through Gedo.

>Kikuchi has “old school” beliefs in how New Japan wrestlers are meant to act including maintaining kayfabe outside of shows and keeping relationships secret.

>It has been said Kikuchi is “selective” with these ideas, and Ibushi is just one notable example who has had to deal with them.

>In fact it was Kikuchi who made the call to keep Ibushi from having his match against Shingo Takagi at Dominion in 2021 even though Ibushi protested against this decision.

>Kikuchi also asked Ibushi to Ibushi to be prepared to wrestle at the Tokyo Dome in a manner in which Ibushi felt offended and didn’t feel he was ready.

>Ibushi then felt he was ready to come back in the New Japan Cup, which he was booked to win, but it was once again Kikuchi who pulled him on the basis of a “minor concern” from his doctor.

>Ibushi then cut all communication with New Japan until Kikuchi contacted and reprimanded the former about attending a JTO show without permission.

>Ibushi has thus been given the ultimatum to return to in ring action by Dominion, or be fired.

Even when Punk lost he won. It only made his name that much more real. Which, as a Pro Wrestler entering the UFC… that’s the only goal you have; to make your name more real, and legitimate by going there.

>defending Punk's UFC disaster
Bischoff isn't half the creative genius he thinks he is, but come on now.

The main problem with Punk in the UFC was that he didn't even come remotely close to belonging there. It wasn't like he went 0-3 against former champions, or rising stars. He went 0-3 against other bottom tier fighters who also did not deserve to be on a UFC PPV, guys who couldn't even make it on UFC's version of Tough Enough at the time. It wasn't just embarrassing for Punk, it was insulting to the UFC fans and fighters.

I remember Dana White caught a ton of heat from the fans and sports press for this stunt. And thats all it was, a stunt, because Dana drank the kool-aid and thought Punk would generate Brock money for him, but that didn't happen either. Instead he just got shit on by everyone in the MMA community.

Ironically this behavior by Punk is one of the things he's always bitched about in Pro Wrestling. Guys getting pushed because of backstage politics and friendships and not because they were talented. Well he stank up the house in the UFC and stole a spot on the card (and a payday) from 6 other fighters who actually deserved to be there. So by every metric this was a giant fucking "L" for CM Punk.

Pic related is from some Jujitsu tournament where only 3 guys competed, but Punk still won a bronze medal and stood on the podium. Fucking kekw.

For one thing, there isn't an entire arc of an authority figure and his son being the focal point of the show. And no backstage cuts to said authority figure after every few matches. TNA under Bischoff and Hogan was terrible outside of The Pope, Angle and Aries. AJ, their best guy became more of a mook under Fourtune and Immortal than he ever was in Angle's Alliance and Christian Coalition.

Update via Fightful.com

>Ibushi has thus been given the ultimatum to return to in ring action by Dominion, or be fired.

> Ibushi , after having a few conversations with the officials about his desire to be a fighting champion, says the ultimatum is not fair to him, and the best course of action for the promotion is to fire him. However, Yano, since he is on Ibushi’s side, tries to convince him to take the risk of going into the lion’s den, and take a temporary leave of absence from New Japan.

>Ibushi, after much debate, announces that he will be coming back to in ring action, but he will need to remain with NJPW, so he is essentially accepting the firing, in order to get the most out of his in ring career. After a few seconds, Ibushi is once again greeted with a giant, “F**K YOU” from Ibushi’s boss, Davie, who has just walked in from the hallway.

>Before the main event, Roderick Strong is interviewed about his attempt to end Hiroshi Tanahashi’s reign as IWGP Heavyweight Champion, by putting him on his back with the sickle.

>Ibushi is said to be debating a return to WWE , as well as a return to the Los Ingobernables de Japon stable, for this big Wrestle Kingdom 11 card.

That guy wasn't a "black supremacist." He was on the run from the cops, made a wrong turn, and ended up on the parade route. The whole thing about it being racially motivated was just some bullshit that spread around online and on conservative media as a knee jerk reaction when they saw the guy was black. It's not like he spent months targeting the Whites Only Christmas Parade. Not all of the victims were even white.

he’s right.

Apparently Vince came for Sasha’s acting deals outside the WWE trying to make it difficult for Sasha to cash in on all of it on her way out from the company… Typical Vinnie Mac’ pettiness. Meanwhile Eric Bischoff just called CM Punk the biggest financial flop in Pro Wrestling history. Jeff Hardy says there is money in himself vs Punk down the line.

What, by keeping his distance and rightfully maintaining his own boundaries, healthily both mentally and emotionally as he removed himself entirely from a toxic work environment they were apart of in trying in any way to maintain a connection with him despite knowing he was distancing himself?

Oh please, “they were just looking out for him” or whatever the fuck, you know he wasn’t stabbing anyone in the back when all he did is look out for his own wellbeing at a time when they served a company making him sick to even think about.

My man, Punk has already proven himself an undeniable ally to the culture before it was even so trendy and cool to do so. He’s got nothing to prove. Already established himself enough respect in that regard to have some moral authority in the discussion, at the very least more than enough to put Ryan Satin in his place and not be questioned in doing so.

The problem with GCW is that it's lost any sort of unique identity and is mostly just coasting on its own legacy and reputation. But meanwhile Gage is running on borrowed time and obviously coming back from injury too soon, Mox is an absentee champion, and they haven't built up anyone else aside from Atticus who just left for greener pastures elsewhere. People keep saying Tony Khan needs to step aside from booking, and my retort to that is if he did, he'd look a lot more like Brett Lauderdale looks right now. (It's even more insane given how GCW has Matt Tremont who is already doing a better job booking H2O).

Effy jobbing clean to Jeff Jarrett at the biggest GCW show of all time still blows my mind. Nit to mention there's been no follow up at all.

In fairness, I get why you'd want to know what's what between your friend and your employer, but I also get that from Punks perspective, it feels like a "Mandated text" thing. Like how you see the exact same tweets from multiple people regarding a PPV, I'm guessing 10 or so texts all going "Hey man, hope you're ok, take a week to decompress and sort yourself out, can't wait to see you back at work" verbatim would kinda grate on you, and make you not want to talk to anyone from there.

Not discussing it publicly doesn't equate to ignoring the problem entirely AND blocking people talking about it. Most decent schools I'd assume would ignore all comments about such a problem entirely while working privately to solve it.

Nobody is claiming that though, people are saying that by not putting out a statement going "An incident has been brought to our attention, we're investigating" like, to borrow your example, any other job with an online presence does when stuff like this goes even slightly viral, the School is making it look like they're not doing anything.

No privacy has been breached with that statement, and it is, indeed, the bare minimum regarding shit like that.

Also, blocking people from their tweets when they're asking legit questions about what is being done, because of their lack of any kind of statement regarding the incident is not a good look either.

They need to get their shit together, but that'd mean their already underpaid and underfunded teachers doing even more work, so I doubt it.

Yeah, it's been proven that Women write just as funny jokes as men, if you read them without knowing. There's a huge gender bias in comedy, which is a shame as I've met some genuinely wonderful and funny people on the circuit, and so few of them are represented on TV.

But then if things were equal, we'd have an Amy Schumer chat show to go along with James Corden's show, so at least one unfunny useless lump is off my screen I guess.

No, there absolutely is a huge bias, people have been given jokes, and scored them about equally between Male and Female comedians while not knowing Genders. Knowing Genders, people scored the female comics lower.

Comedy came up from the poster I was replying to, conversation evolves, imagine that.

>>6638888
Hattie Hayridge was really good, as was Victoria Wood, 2 trailblazers in the UK scene, current Female comics I enjoy are Isy Suttie, Jo Enright, and Jo Caulfield, whose stuff on panel shows really doesn't do her stand-up justice. If you're American I wouldn't know who's good there, I don't really follow the US scene.

this was actually a day 1 question/concern about AEW, since TK was clear that he wanted to very few if any house/untelevised shows, and because AEW brought in so many indie talents/rookies early on.

Some people (Jungle Boy specifically) have had enough TV ring time and are lucky enough to learn quickly that they've grown at an acceptable rate, but for others the answer has basically been work Dark and try to get indie bookings so you can actually wrestle regularly

Sure, maybe there's no need for Sonny if you're only interested in vanilla midget clone wars. AEW is turning into mid 2010's ROH, generic pale jui-juitsu jackoffs everywhere. I get it, the matches are good, but wrestling needs a little color, a little flash. Besides maybe Danhausen, there's nobody that's going to make a non wrestling fan stop on Dynamite and go "Woah, what the fuck is this? Let me tune in for a minute" People like Kiss will actually bring new fans to the sport, but while the Kardashians are on, who the fuck wants to watch Bobby fucking fish?

Sonny should ask himself why Anthony Bowens gets TV time and he doesn't. Maybe he'll put 2 and 2 together.

If anything Sonny scares away new fans. Not because of the homosexuality but because newer fans are already apprehensive of wrestling. I half agree with you here. I like my main line TV wrestling to be a variety show that showcases all kinds of wrestling styles from all over the world. I also like when smaller companies have a very distinct style though. ROH, CZW, RINGS, CHIKARA etc.

I would also agree that AEW does have too many wrestlers who just wrestle good and don't offer much else. I think it's been stated a lot that the Undisputed Era guys are dead weight in a lot of ways. Tony Nese has only NOW been put in a match thats worth a damn and he is not the reason it's worth a damn. But for the most part a lot of the wrestlers on AEWs roster do have peronality and do cut good promos as well as have good matches. It's mostly just the NXT rejects that are boring. No idea why anyone watched that show.

Starting Sunday, July 10, at 8 p.m. ET/PT, A&E Network and WWE are bringing the WWE Universe into the ring with nine weeks of all-new programming featuring intimate looks into the lives and careers of some of WWE’s most iconic Legends. With unprecedented access to WWE’s archive, Season 2 of “Biography: WWE Legends,” new series “WWE Rivals,” and new after show “WWE Smack Talk” air back-to-back each Sunday.

“Biography: WWE Legends” – Season 2 premieres Sunday, July 10, at 8 p.m. ET/PT

“WWE Rivals”

Actor and former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. leads a roundtable discussion of WWE luminaries to delve into the storylines and dynamic characters behind the epic battles that built WWE. Each one-hour episode features archival footage from WWE’s library as well as interviews with the Legends involved and the Superstars who watched these rivalries unfold. Rivalries featured this season include “Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs. The Rock, Bret “Hit Man” Hart vs. Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker vs. Kane, John Cena vs. Edge and the “Monday Night Wars” between WCW and WWE.

“WWE Smack Talk” – New series premieres Sunday, July 10, at 11 p.m. ET/PT

Featuring WWE Legend Booker T, Hot 97 and ESPN host Peter Rosenberg and WWE host Jackie Redmond, each half-hour after show breaks down the biggest moments from each Sunday’s “Biography: WWE Legends” and “WWE Rivals” as well as reveals new information that didn’t make the cut. Along the way, Booker, Peter and Jackie will welcome WWE Legends, current Superstars and other celebrity guests to further discuss the night’s events

If you keep Sonny Kiss around, one idea I can think of is reintroduce the character on TV with an Intergender Championship (though you can name it whatever, but the idea is anyone can challenge for it) and that be where that goes. The title can even serve as an unsanctioned championship, too. It let's Sonny Kiss exist in a vacuum that isn't disruptive of their blessed ranking system. lol

Yup. Apparently he hurt it on a house show, then tore it completely whilst lifting weights.

I guess the idea was he couldn't hurt it any further since it was already torn completely, but your body tends to compensate with other muscles which could have damaged them too. It's insane WWE's doctors let him go out there

Codys out for 4-6 months. He's getting the Big John extended injury timeline so it looks like he's superhuman when he shows back up in half the time or as a surprise entrant in the Rumble.

>>6641437
The reaction to Cody has been remarkably consistent when it comes to the AEW fan side of things.

There were two camps when it came to Cody during the majority of the second half of his AEW run, people who hated the shit he was doing and people who thought that his booking was so tone deaf that it had to be a slow burn heel turn. The second group didn't turn on him because he left, they just realised that Cody wasn't playing 4d chess and actually was just being a terrible face.

Pretty much this.

I'll gladly admit I was wrong, and figured the stuff on Rhodes to the Top and whatnot was all part of the work, cos lets face it, reality TV isn't real either, so using one medium to re-enforce an angle in another makes sense, I believe Total Divas did it too.

Regardless, I figured it'd pay off with a Cody heel turn, have him be an arrogant up himself jackass, and possibly antagonize the face champion into granting him a match which he wins.

Turns out Cody was an arrogant delusional jackass, but not in the "what a great character this is" way, and all the hints were him just fucking around for his own amusement.

I'm not going around happy he's injured or anything, nor do I want him to fail in WWE, but fucking hell Cody dropped about 17 balls in AEW that could've lead him to being the biggest star in the business.

Cody's lack of self awareness, over the top, American hero good guy schtick works in WWE but pretending people didn't hate that shit in AEW is just dishonest

The closest I’ve seen anyone here compliment Cody was thinking he was trying to show he could do a face as a heel meta thing but that it was ultimately not working. And several people pretended Andrade hit the flaming table in their match even though there were gifs and videos everywhere, even posted by aew, clearly showing only Cody hit the table.

He sucks at creative, maybe if he had stuck around in aew he could have worked his way into the wrestling side of the company with Punk, Bryan and MJF. But he wanted to do sports entertainment like the rest of the vps and he wasn’t good enough at flipping or slapping his thigh like they are to compensate for what is just a bad form of storytelling.

No, it's that CMLL won't let their guys ever work with guys who work AAA, and extend that to their partners. Notice that FTR don't bring the AAA belts out when interacting with New Japan talent. AAA isn't quite as strict but you won't see a CMLL guy working with their guys anywhere.

It's bullshit because Andrade, fka La Sombra, was a top guy in CMLL before his NXT run and main evented their biggest show in a Mask vs Mask match, but now because he's done some AAA work he can't work the G1 and probably won't have a match at Forbidden Door.

>unofficially, we will never know for how long - Paco Alonso's health had been declining for years prior to his death. Sofia had made some decisions prior to officially being in charge of CMLL.

Antonio Pena split off from CMLL in the 90's to form AAA. Obviously CMLL survived the split, but there's been a lot of situations where a promotion dies when people leave like that. AAA has also lured away a bunch of CMLL talent over the years and has done various angles where they used nicknames for CMLL. CMLL does not allow their talent to do shows with AAA talent and many times hasn't even used former AAA talent.

Andrade also goes against some other CMLL rules as he worked for AAA recently and tried to form a competing promotion with Rush that didn't go anywhere. CMLL also tends to not use some talent once they leave, though they've ignored that at times.

Additionally, CMLL has been a steady partner with New Japan for 20 years now. NJPW usually sends young talent there and in return, CMLL sends in a whole bunch of people for the Fantasticamania shows.

I don't really think it's a big deal though. Andrade wasn't going to draw any extra buys for the Forbidden Door show nor would he have been in any big matches.

I think the fact that CMLL not only let LA Park come back after he said "fuck your mother" on a love mic during prime time TV, got fired, and worked AAA for a while, but put him in the Anniversario main event, says a lot about his star power.

Personally I think he'd be a good choice for a run with the All Atlantic Championship if the lending of talent is an issue. I think they should use it as a bit of a travelling belt to bolster their connections with other promotions and have it defended elsewhere and not just on AEW TV.

Strike a couple of deals with the promotions to air highlights of the overseas defences in hype packages on weeks when the champion isn't there so you can work around the schedule

it's usually the young guys they send out for excursions. occassionally you have a situation like KENTA or Morishima in ROH where they show up like once a month but only in between their main dates since most japanese promotions are on a touring schedule rather than every single week.

situations like what Takeshita is doing now is pretty rare but also i can see more feds being open to it because interpromotional stuff is more popular these days. but even so it's more likely to be something like "oh, Ishii and Juice Robinson are on are show this month". Like NJPW isn't gonna let Okada miss 2-3 months

The IWC doesn't really care either. The IWC has looked the other way tons of times. Nobody cares about Minoru Suzuki stretching and bullying younger wrestlers outside of shows, nobody cares about the Big Show roughing up The Spirit Squad, nobody cares about AJ Gray's multiple scandals, but they went on the offensive to go after EW's Video Editor Guy and Dylan Bostic (accused AEW of stiffing him on pay).
