>Watch Dynamite at 8pm EDT / 1am BST in https://baked.live/tv/wrestling - also in https://baked.live/tv/walt

*Tag Team Match: Chris Jericho & Lance Archer vs. Jon Moxley & Hiroshi Tanahashi
*Tag Team Match: Will Ospreay & Aussie Open vs. Orange Cassidy & Roppongi Vice
*All-Atlantic Championship – Qualifying Match: Penta Oscuro vs. Malakai Black
*Singles Match: Marina Shafir vs. Toni Storm
Bryan Danielson Will Address Forbidden Door and Blood & Guts
Christian Speaks as well

Forbidden Door is just days away and the event has rapidly turned into one the most loaded of the year! On the NJPW event on June 21st, Tomohiro Ishii became the third man to qualify for the All-Atlantic Championship Four Way, joining PAC and Miro in the field, while fans also learned that the AEW Women's Title, both the ROH and IWGP Tag Titles, and the IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Title will be on the line this Sunday! All of that has led AEW to this Wednesday night in Milwaukee, WI at the UW-Panther Arena for Dynamite! We will find out the last man to join the All-Atlantic Championship match when Penta and Malakai go to battle, CHAOS and The United Empire will meet in Trios action ahead of this Sunday's pay-per-view, and the JAS/Suzuki-Gun alliance will go to battle with the strange bedfellows of Tanahashi and Moxley!

>Hiroshi Tanahashi & Jon Moxley vs. Chris Jericho & “The Murderhawk Monster” Lance Archer

What a tag team fight this is shaping up to be! On one side we've got the men who will fight at Forbidden Door on Sunday to earn the AEW Interim World Championship and on the other we've got two unlikely allies with mutual enemies. Never before have any of these men united, but there are so many threads binding them all together that run back over a decade to the first meeting between Tanahashi and Lance Archer in the 2011 G1 Climax Tournament.

Even when Tanahashi walked onto the AEW stage on the Dynamite after Double or Nothing 2022, it was not to finally stand in opposition to Jon Moxley, it was to face off with AEW World Champion CM Punk. Yet here we finally are, as a result of an unfortunate injury that robbed fans of one dream match, finally on the cusp of another dream match coming to fruition on Sunday night. All Jon Moxley and Hiroshi Tanahashi have to do is survive all these disparate threads coming together on Wednesday night and be able to get along with one another long enough to defeat the formidable Jericho/Archer tandem. This tag team grudge match could very well shape both the AEW Interim World Title fight as well as the Trios bout pitting The J.A.S/Suzuki-Gun contingent against Kingston, Yuta, and Moxley's old NJPW buddy.

There's a whole lot on the line with this tag bout going down just days before the pay-per-view extravaganza; which team will get the victory? For that matter, which man will score the decisive fall? Could it all effect what comes after Sunday night? Do not miss out on all the action with this final Dynamite before AEW and NJPW present Forbidden Door!

>CHAOS (Orange Cassidy. Rocky Romero, & Trent Beretta vs. The United Empire (Kyle Fletcher, Mark Davis, & IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay

On the whole, The United Empire has been wildly successful in recent weeks. Despite the loss to FTR and Trent Beretta several weeks back, Will Ospreay's unit has done remarkably well on their home turf. Jeff Cobb and Great-O-Khan claimed the IWGP Tag Titles for the group at Dominion 2022, that same night Ospreay captured the IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Title, and just a few days ago, TJP and Francesco Akira took the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Titles for The UE. Plus Aussie Open (Fletcher and Davis) are part of the NJPW Strong Openweight Tag Team Title Tournament alongside AEW competitors like The Factory's Aaron Solo and Nick Comoroto, The Dark Order team of Alan Angels and Evil Uno, and Christopher Daniels.

On the other side of the ring, Orange Cassidy has been out of action since Revolution 2022 recovering from injury, while the Roppongi Vice duo were among those frustrated by The United Empire when they crashed the ROH World Tag Title match several weeks ago. While both Roppongi Vice and FTR are primed to tackle Great-O-Khan and Jeff Cobb on Sunday night in the Winner Take All Tag Title Match, this is also Roppongi Vice's chance to send United Empire a message, as well as Cassidy's opportunity to take the measure of Ospreay. That being said, it's also Will's chance to gauge where OC is at after “Freshly Squeezed” has been on the shelf for nearly four months. This is a big time match to step back into for Cassidy, even more so on Sunday night when the IWGP U.S. Title is on the line, so we shall all see how OC slides back into action against this world class competition!

>“The Problem” Marina Shafir vs. Toni Storm

Toni Storm has a date with Thunder Rosa at Forbidden Door, a date with the AEW Women's World Title at stake, but before she can get to Chicago, the challenger has to solve a big problem. After Shafir's unsuccessful challenge for Rosa's championship, “The Problem” showed no remorse when she attacked the victorious champion, and who knows what would've happened if Toni Storm hadn't arrived to chase Shafir off.

Now, just days away from Storm's championship challenge, the two women will collide on Dynamite with revenge on the mind. Will Shafir live up to her moniker and be a problem Storm can't solve? Or will Toni use this match to continue building momentum for her championship challenge on Sunday night?

>WHY, CHRISTIAN, WHY?

Following their AEW World Tag Team Title Ladder Match loss to The Young Bucks last week, it seemed as if Christian Cage would be there to console Jungle Boy just as he had been following JB's previous losses in The Owen Hart and that FTW Title bout with Ricky Starks.

Instead, following a hug from his perceived mentor, Jungle Boy would find himself driven skull first into the canvas via Christian Cage's signature Killswitch maneuver. With Luchasaurus in no condition to assist his partner after falling off a ladder and crashing through two tables, Christian would then deliver another of his signatures, the One Man Conchairto, when he ruthlessly smashing a steel chair across his fallen protege's head. Christian Cage would exchange some harsh words with Jungle Boy's family sitting at ringside before he left the ring, and leaving fans worldwide questioning just why Christian turned his back on the men he'd spent so much time mentoring, and not just mentoring, but also fighting by their side as with Full Gear 2021.

This Wednesday night on Dynamite we will hear from Christian Cage regarding his actions last week, but is there anything he can say that could possibly justify those actions?

>RETURN OF THE DRAGON?

“The American Dragon” Bryan Danielson has been absent from AEW ever since Double or Nothing 2022 and the chaos that was Anarchy in the Arena. In his absence, the challenge was made for The Jericho Appreciation Society to fight Eddie Kingston, and anyone who would join him, inside the Blood & Guts cage in Detroit on June 28th (INSERT DETROIT LINK). On top of that, with the Forbidden Door PPV coming together, Danielson had a challenge thrown at him by Suzuki-Gun's Zack Sabre Jr to face off in a match that fans have been salivating to see for quite some time.

On Wednesday night, Danielson makes his return to AEW, and we expect to hear from The Blackpool Combat Club member in regards to both of these events. Will we see Danielson compete in Chicago this Sunday night? Will he step into Blood & Guts next week at the Little Caesar's Arena? Tune into Dynamite on TBS to find out what “The American Dragon” has to say about his immediate future!

Alvarez seems to be going hard on saying Danielson is injured for FD, which would suck, although he's not usually a very reliable source.

FD will be good, but it needs a match that can steal the show and be a MOTY winner. Hangman/Okada could have been but that seems unlikely to happen now. ZSJ/Bryan would absolutely be a winner

I don't give a single shit about this NJPW fuckery because AEW has done absolutely nothing to make me give a shit about it. But the promos were hot, Christian was fucking hilarious, and the show was pretty high energy. Malakai vs Penta had good psychology and some sick camera work. Adam Cole continues to low key be the best commentator in AEW. Solid 7/10.

Also, Danielson needs to be on every single episode. I know he can't wrestle right now and but that doesn't matter. He can clearly still cut promos and be a presence as an on-screen character. Same goes for Punk. They're popular and they draw so put them on TV. Whether they can wrestle or not is irrelevant.

And lol at commentary suddenly saying AEW is on the line at Forbidden Door and Mox has to win for the sake of the company. What the fuck is that? There's no heat between AEW and NJPW. They aren't trying to run each other out of business or anything. Forbidden Door is happening simply because they agreed to do a show together. There aren't any stakes here. It doesn't matter who wins or loses at the PPV.

Let's talk about these things from the show:

>Bryan Danielson promo

This segment was stupid. Bryan has a replacement but won't tell us who. Then Zack Sabre Jr. appears for the first time and does nothing.

>Aussie Open and Will Osperay vs OC, Trent and Rocky Romero

Will Osperay is now 1-2 in his AEW run as his team lost here. Again, Trent Beretta just HAS to be protected for unknown reasons. This was fast paced but long for the first match on the show.

>Christian interview

This promo was all over the place when it should have focused on why Christian turned on his friends. AEW's developing a real thing for cheap heat lately with Christian bringing up Jungle Boy's dead father out of the blue.

Luchasaurus then comes out after and Christian tries to talk to him and seemingly wants to work with him.

>Malakai Black vs Penta

They did way too much here. The package piledriver from the 2nd rope should have ended it as should have the top rope double footstomp.

>Adam Page vs Silas Young

The latest person to lose in his AEW debut is Silas Young. Why did AEW pick Silas Young for this? Nobody knows who he is so beating him doesn't mean much and they had a bunch of roster members who could have taken the L here instead.

>Okada/Page/White/Cole segment

This segment wasn't good. Okada is basically supposed to be the biggest Japanese star from this whole partnership and he hardly looked like one here. A large portion of people also likely had no idea who he was.

They also didn't do a good job of explaining this as it looked like it would be a tag match but is a 4 way instead. Didn't White say he wouldn't be defending against Cole?

>Sting and Darby promo

I don't even think Shingo and Hiromu have been mentioned yet and they are now Sting's partners at the PPV. That's a real great way to get people excited for them.

>Card rundowns

They have got to stop these. Excalibur messed up for the 2nd week in a row and they throw so much stuff at you that it's really hard to remember. Give this 2-3 minutes and organize it like MLW does, where they show you the date and card for each show coming up to make it easier. We also got a Buy-In match announced for the PPV with more people nobody has been introduced to.

>Mox/Tana vs Jericho/Archer

Tana thankfully didn't lose on his debut like Will did. Archer did lose though like he always does. It felt a little rushed and it was what it was.

We then had a brawl after. Shota Umino made his big debut during this by being one of a dozen or so people out there.

Overall thoughts: This wasn't good at all. Last week's rating wasn't good and I don't expect this one to be much better. We had people losing on their debuts, people making appearances without any hype and Okada making his AEW debut in a bad segment. This PPV build has been nothing short of a disaster and I'm glad we will be done with it soon.

That's not commentary, that's Regal, who's managing Mox, so he needs Mox to win. That's "The manager is on commentary doing manager things". The problem there if there is one is that Regal is too good, too interesting.

Probably so he looks good before eating the pin at Forbidden Door.

>Okada/Page/White/Cole segment

Commentary put him over huge and the crowd popped massively for the coindrop.

Champ doesn't book his own matches, but I agree they should have spelled that out.

That's because Tony Khan's sole understanding of wrestling booking is playing TEW and mimicking past promotions. It's all completely formulaic bullshit. He's not a creative. He doesn't have an original bone in his body. It's all totally hack, overdone, copy & paste booking. He's very obviously on the spectrum and using Daddy's Money to ignore it.

Also, i loved that little shot to MJF by Christian

>The package piledriver from the 2nd rope should have ended it

Do you just not pay any attention? The whole point of that was that it WOULD have ended the match, except for the fact that Penta's back injury left him unable to immediately capitalise on it, he had to drag himself there late, forced him to make an exceptionally weak pin and even then Black didn't kick out, he did a last minute foot on the rope save. They told a really good in ring story.

Classic PWB, he doesn't understand that a rope-break isn't a kickout, nor is a tag partner breaking the pin, also that taking time before a pin, due to injury or hubris, gives your opponent time to collect themselves, gather their wits, and kick out, same with having to lift a dead-weight opponent from the outside and throw them into the ring. Recovery time is apparently not a thing in the world of PWB.

I honestly cant care about this as it involves Tana, the issue with age is that most wrestlers are just broken down and cant work anymore, the ACE is eternal though.

Banger of a Dynamite, best one in a while. Maybe last week's rating shook them up a bit.

Christian's promo hit different with me because my Dad died last week and I wasn't expecting that line. Can't wait to see Jungle Boy kick his head in.

Such a shame about Danielson, really hope it's Cesaro and not Gargano who replaces him.

This is probably gonna be only the 2nd AEW PPV I buy

This is why I hide the LOLAEW thread. I love a good LOLpromotion moment but that thread is full of "this promo didn't get over" or "somebody got an injury" or "they didn't run enough promo packages for a debut" or "the rating went down 5% despite having important matches on the show". It's boring. Scorpio & Sammy double turning to a huge crowd reaction only to turn Scorpio heel a week later again is LOLAEW, you don't have to make shit up.

Good. Maybe this'll be a wakeup call to Tony and he'll realize good promos, good characters, good storylines, and feuds between actual fucking stars like Punk and MJF drive ratings, not boring smarky MUH WORKRATE matches involving guys from Japan who 95% of the audience has either never heard of or doesn't care about. Then again he might decide the problem is not enough 10 man tags. Tony's mind is an enigma.

Surprised to see cold reactions for Shafir, I'm kinda loving her more with every appearance and though her match with Storm was awesome.

Also idk if anyone else noticed but AEW seems to be putting lots of women in pairs lately - Martinez tagging with Deeb on Dark, Shafir with Nyla (rip Emi Sakura), Statlander with Athena, wonder if this is groundwork for a women tag title.

I think the pairings are more to do with screen time than a potential Tag Division.

Their roster is arguably in a better place for a Tag Division than the fed's excuse for one, but I still wouldn't be rushing to put belts into the equation any time soon. They've got so many women right now and have nowhere near enough time to consistently have them on TV in dedicated one on one feuds, so pairings and minor factions gets them on TV and in singles feuds.

Shafir is good but not suited for a match built around your usual American TV match with a commercial break. Her gimmick is also anti-hype; walking out in a hoodie with the hood up and your hands in your pockets while very low-tempo orchestral music plays isn't a hot entrance, HOOK's entrance works because he's so aloof while coming out to a high-energy rap song.

She excels in shootstyle with a bit of pro wrestling like in Bloodsport. If you got her in there with Deeb or Emi Sakura (or one of her students) or Trish Adora and told them to stick with matwork & striking she'd have a great match.

...how do you write about wrestling for a living and not realize ratings have little to do with how good a show is. I see this shit all of the time. There's an unannounced debut and the ratings are roughly the same and then peabrains everywhere use it as an example of someone not beingn a draw.

As for this show, I thought the main was weak looking and I didn't think the NJPW stuff would interest the average fan. I also think having that long 6-man tag early on in the show probably ran off some people.

I totally agree with you that show quality does not equal ratings.

No, I don't think you understand how ratings actually work. You can brag about Dynamite being the most watched show on cable this Wednesday but it used to average 1 million and 0.40's in the demo. Now it's stuck doing 800k and 0.30's. Those are pandemic numbers. Those are the numbers they did with NXT as competition. They're declining and if Tony doesn't course correct it won't be long until you're bragging about how Dynamite is the second most watched show on cable. Then the third. Then the fourth.
