I might end up skipping this. I'm not excited for it in the slightest. There's no match on here that I'm dying to see. No match-up has me curious about who will win. There's no interesting storyline that I'm waiting to see the payoff for. I'm sure the matches will be great but that's just not enough.

People would get into Rosa vs any of the joshi recently working Dark.

Will be a letdown after the All-Atlantic 4-Way. Gives me Okada vs Styles vs Elgin vibes, everybody just wanted Okada vs Hangman but we're getting this instead. White's great this year mind you but Okada vs Page would've been excellent. Cole will drag this match down because he's honestly been having one of his worst ever in-ring years.
>Interim AEW World Title: Jon Moxley vs Hiroshi Tanahashi
Mox has been wanting this match for years so despite the circumstance I think these two will deliver big time. It will definitely be better than Punk vs Tana would've. I also don't really know who goes over since I could totally see them putting it on Tana right before the G1 so they can go right back into Tana vs Punk once Punk is healthy.

Honestly it's a very solid card, just not the blow away one that I and others expected.

I think it'll be a tonne of fun and I'm hoping for some entertaining stuff between matches (Danhausen and Yano interaction is a must) but yeah, the combination of injuries and having to weave NJPW into some ongoing AEW stories has taken away some of the shine. Definitely does leave a lot of potential for the next one and some NJPW events.

A lot of these matches would benefit from dropping a few guys or splitting the match up. I guess having a bunch of tag matches makes it feel more like a, bad, new Japan show. But there’s no excuse for 2 four ways.

We should also mention NJPW's old insistence that they can't build the next show until the current one is done, meaning they didn't start building Forbidden Door until Dominion was done, which left like 2 weeks. Sure they sent over Cobb/O'Khan early, then had Hangman name-drop Okada, but that turned out awkward because they made ppl want Hanger/Okada and ended up having Jay win the belt.

Build and injuries aside, the card isn't bad at all. It's not entirely ideal but they've pulled a solid card out of the ashes.

Though I really hope Tony takes a step back afterwards and realizes that he needs to figure out how to not make PPV builds massive messes going forward.

I think an argument should be made in favour of this crossover show. American fans not really knowing who these NJPW guys are isn't really a bad thing. This could be just the start of something. AEW, Impact and indies have already helped bring Suzuki and Ishii to an american audience where now they get big pops and most AEW audience know who they are.

I think now that AEW has already gone in with this Forbidden Door show it would be smart for them to bring in NJPW guys every few months or so to acclimatize the audience with them as they learn who is who so next years PPV goes over even better.

That's my glass half full way of looking at it. Gotta start somewhere. It wont take long for people to see a guy like Tanahashi and know that he is important.

I think Hiromu enjoys wrestling in front of American audiences as he is super over, so his is probably legit.
I'm very suspect of Ishii tho, think about how hard that dude works through all sorts of injuries all the time like it's nothing. Nothing short of a truck hitting him would stop him and force him to actually miss a match. He also publicly said he wasn't into the idea of a 4 way match I think in the post match interview after he won the spot. Maybe he thought it wasn't worth the long ass flight/didn't feel he was getting paid enough/the spot was worth his while to make the trek. idk. It's a weird one.

AEW Dynamite (and every other Rampage) is still good TV but the build to this show has just been rushed to fuck and all over the place. Injuries and sickness you can't really account for, but the way you got the IWGP World Title match put together was just complete nonsense. A lot of stuff I care about in the company is stuff that won't matter until after this PPV too (La Faccion Ingobernable, Statlander vs Cargill, Wardlow getting the TNT Title, Christian vs Jungle Boy, Blood & Guts). The matches will probably still be great across the board, but it comes across as a simple exhibition show with a few title matches. ROH War of the Worlds in the early years-level stuff.

Double or Nothing was a little wishy-washy on its build but it was still good overall. I guess only getting 1 month to build a PPV featuring a lot of outside guys while juggling as many plotlines as they already normally do just broke Tony. He needs to hire a creative team; proven bookers that he screens rather than just anybody, but he needs help.

The show sold out based on the promise of AEW x NJPW alone, but the low post-market pricing tells you how little people care about the card that scalpers are sitting on too much stock. It's not a flop for AEW but it's a sign that the build was weak and the card is not what people expected/wanted for the most part (this is half in part to injuries plaguing both companies at the last minute to be fair).

oh and btw, NJPW guys have been wrestling to near dead silence for almost 2 yrs now and everyone hates it, which is why more and more of them have ben coming to America in the past 6-12 months since USA opened back up for full uninhibited crowds. Because all wrestlers live for the rush of the pop. That's just a fact. Japanese wrestlers can't get that over in Japan right now but they sure as hell can get that in America and get to experience full uninhibited audience reactions once again instead of the clap crowd bullshit.
